Would Josh Allen ever consider a team friendly contract?
sirebors replied to sirebors's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like I said before, so if they can't sign a Daryl Williams and Josh gets hurt and his career is cut short, how is that better for him or his team. If the Bills aren't able to retain Diggs and Josh Allen and the team suffers, how is that better? If the Bills don't go to the Superbowl and Josh and teammates loses millions in endorsements, how is that better? Everything isn't black and white. There are a million extenuating circumstances that make this not so cut and dry. -
Ugh, I love the Combine. NFL changes 2021 scouting combine format because of COVID-19 pandemic https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30738093/nfl-changes-combine-format-due-covid-19-centralized-event-held-indianapolis

That's exactly what I'm thinking. -

I'm not talking about the Bills trying to short change him... I'm asking if Josh would voluntarily take a team friendly deal to improve his teams chance for success? Say they don't have the money to sign a Daryl Williams and Josh is injured and his career is cut short. How is that better for him or the team? -

I don't see this happening. Anything is possible but once again, I don't think it's in a Josh's DNA. He has character, integrity, loyalty. He likes this area. He appreciates what the team did for him. Even what the fans did in memory of his grandmother will have lasting effect. Sure he's from California, but he's from a small town. He's not living in San Diego or Napa Valley. His girlfriend and him grew up in Firebaugh and attended Firebaugh High school together. He is a farmer and will always be a farmer. -

I understood and agreed with the rest. I didn't think I had to respond, lol. I'm not trying to be confrontational. I realize we finally have a franchise QB and should and will pay him what he's worth or what he wants. I know the Bills and Beane will do everything in their power to have Allen retire as a Bill. My question is whether or not Josh, of his own volition would agree to take less for the benefit of the franchise. -

Um, Brady is currently the 11th longest tenured player in history. He is a Quarterback, the position that earns the highest salary on the team. 8 of the other players were kickers. One was Jerry Rice. One was George Blanda. And one was Brett Favre. Those other players played when the salaries were far lower. The comparison is hardly equal. This is exactly my thinking. -

He will be extremely wealthy regardless. I mean seriously, when is enough enough? If you just won Powerball for 350 million you'd be pretty happy and pretty wealthy. Would you be mad you didn't win 400 or 450 million? -

I don't know if I entirety believe this. They say they want everyone to get paid, but they want to get paid too. There's only so much to go around. And I don't believe that other players wouldn't want to play here if Josh Allen willingly took less money in order to give more to his teammates. I think they would respect him more. It's not the team that's cheap. They're still paying to the salary cap, it's just one players decision to drop his overall cap percentage to the benefit of his teammates and friends. -

Is this a real thing? I realize they could prefer he took what he was worth, but in the end it's his choice. I believe it will be close. And I believe Beane will give him what he's worth. I was just curious if he might to be willing in one shape or another to help create a dynasty. -

If I had the choice between making 40 million a year and going to 0 Superbowls and 30 million a year and going to 9 like Brady and be immortalized forever, I would probably choose the latter. With 3 or 400 million, you could allow generations of your family to live comfortably. I realize nothing is guaranteed. He could take a team friendly deal and still go to zero. -

It's not the money that's the issue. It's the salary cap and staying competitive. The Pegulas will have to pay the salary cap regardless who they pay it to. -

Brady did. The GOAT was far below his market value. -

I don't think Josh Allen would ever consider holding out. That's not in his DNA. I mean under outlandish circumstances anything is possible, but not with this Administration. -

I would almost be willing to roll the dice with him and give him an unprecedented amount guaranteed and signing bonus to lower the contract amount and just hope for the best. -

Would the team ever even consider approaching him about something like this? Or would that be disrespectful? Or would Josh Allen himself have to actually suggest it? -

I'm being a little facetious. I realize it probably won't be half a billion, but Mahomes got 450 million. Does Josh need 45 million a year or would he be ok with 40 or 35 or even 30? Or is that completely outside the realm of possibility? -
Is this possible? Could or would Josh Allen take a below market value contract like Tom Brady did for the benefit of his team? I know it seems silly at face value but Josh is cut from a different cloth. He is a consumate team player and genuinely a good person and cares about his team and teammates. To build a dynasty and further gain the respect of his teammates would he ever consider this? I'm sure his agent wouldn't be happy but I don't think money is Josh Allen's primary driving focus. To be able to keep Milano, Williams, and even pay his friend Diggs? I mean seriously, when is enough enough? Does it have to be 500 million? Isn't 350 million or 400 million enough to live comfortably for the rest of his life? Would the rest of the league, particularly the quarterbacks be critical of him for doing this? I'm just curious what everyone's take is? And if so, what would he be willing to accept?

This isn't entirely true. A lot of coaches interview just for the "experience" in case they ever decide they do seriously want to consider taking a job. In fact I'm sure McDermott encourages coaches to interview as "experiencing" the interview process can be invaluable. My question is what is the draw? I'm serious. I realize there's only 32 NFL head coaches. But there's also only 32 NFL offensive coordinators. And with the added benefit of this being his home town, raising his kids here, his family being here, being in an extremely well run organization with a franchise QB and with the possibility of building a dynasty. Why would you want to leave? He could be eternally immortalized here with the likes of Levy, Polian, Kelly. With multiple Superbowl rings. Or he could go to another team and fail miserably through no fault of his own and have that on his resume. Is it just money? Or power? Or ego? What is the motivation? Because if it's just money, give him a raise. I know I would prefer to stay and build a New England type dynasty right here in Western New York.
