Baltimore will be missing a CB for Bills game

We'll see how good the new look Ravens are this year. Congrats on the SB, but they are a very different looking team this year. -
SJ is a slot-man now
8-8 Forever? replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
SJ should be a very very good slot guy this year, with all the basketball jab step moves, etc. He also has the size and jumps to not only dominate with the typical slot guy sharp in's and out but also run the seam routes a taller tight end would run. I like it. Of course they need speed guys on the outside to take his place, but they drafted some guys who will have to do that day 1. So who cares about #1's and #2s and all that garbage, lets just have a potent pass game with all the right pieces and leave it at that. I don't see Detroit or Ariz. with their awesome "#1 WRs" making any big noise. This is the ultimate team game. Lets hope Woods, Goodwin , et al can play. That is the key. -
Guard position battle not going so hot
8-8 Forever? replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McKelvin will be fine this year. The blitz - oriented defense will help him a great deal as he just needs to play it tight for 3 seconds... the play will be over for better or worse in 3 seconds with this defense (and offense for that matter) ... this will be interesting -
Stevie Johnson helped off the field
8-8 Forever? replied to artmalibu's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair enough. I take it back. We're gonna do a San Fran from a couple years ago with no major injuries for an entire season. That would be amazing and a welcome relief for this franchise as it builds some depth and talent. Probably produce 8 & 8 at least this season as well. How's that? Plus I think the Bills can pull a surprise on the Pats week 1. -

An outsider's view of the 2013 Bills.

Wow, we are fully in "hope renewed" mode now. Yikes. Wasn't this the sentiment last year at this time? Best front 4 in the league, solid O line , Spiller is awesome, playoffs for sure this year, blah blah blah. a half a dozen significant starter IR injuries later and their sitting with a top 10 draft pick -- again. Show me the baby. -
just shut it down. have the old timers touch football game in the sand and a pool party instead.. TV will love all the interviews they would get from that

SJ is a slot-man now

Now they need a #1 WR, as they have since Moulds left. SJ is a nice slot guy with all the moves, etc. but he doesn't strike fear into defenses like the top guys do. Lets Hope (there's that word again) someone with real speed grows into the #1 role. Otherwise SJ will be getting rocked by safeties and LBs all year and probably won't last the season. -
yes thanks. eyes and ears on the field. objective as well. super helpful . we are in full "hope renewed" mode now

Odds are very stacked against Rex being back next year. Never know though, maybe Geno lights it up. Doubt it, but never can be sure. AFC East should be interesting this year with all the Pats and Jets troubles and Miami having the "dream team" high expectations. The expansion Bills might steal 3 or 4 in the division if they stay healthy. Be interesting to see how Marrone's no huddle , go go go approach impacts an NFL roster over a full 16 game schedule.

Bills are so far out of the NFL conversation I am not sure winning will even cure it. But maybe it will. Have to see. -
Exactly. We do not have the correct personnel for Pettine's defense. Most all the bills front 7 were selected for a 4 - 3. ugh.

Official John Murphy Show Thread

I just want to see him play football. Dexter Manley could not write his name and was a fine NFL player. Yes. Tune In is a great free app for out of town radio. WGR is the only place to get media coverage of the Bills. Until they do something on the field, it will continue to be the only place. -
Holmes may miss 2013 season for Jets
8-8 Forever? replied to dascottbills28's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats off season changes and the Jets problems pale in comparison to the full blow up of the entire Bills organization and team. If you are at the Jets and Pats you're saying "boy am I glad the Bills ditched half their starters, all the coaches and front office and went into 'expansion team mode' for this year" so we don't have to worry about them ....... -
The Bills should have never traded #4 Kolb
8-8 Forever? replied to quinnearlysghost88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't worry about it. EJ will be starting week 1. These guys have about 18 months to get it going. Better get him in there now while he has 4 out of the first 6 at home and a full O Line. If EJ shows well in pre season, he will be in there. -
Two Teams Moving to LA?
8-8 Forever? replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mostly depends on how long Ralph holds out. If the franchise is on the auction block by the end of next calendar year, the Bills may beat all the other candidates to L.A. simply because a team on the auction block carries much much more uncertainty than a team with an existing owner who will be "rotting in hell" as you put it for moving his team out of an area it has been in for a long time. If Joe Blow Billionaire with no ties to WNY outbids everyone else for the team, he or she is pretty much immune from attack as he or she had no history with or ties to the area in the first place. It 's just a business transaction, which it is no matter who buys it, frankly, but you see what i mean. NFL franchises are not public goods like libraries, schools and parks, they are businesses in the end. If there is a brand new stadium paid for and waiting for an NFL team in L.A., that lease termination fee for the Ralph is going to look quite reasonable to any buyer. Now your getting it. That's what stirs the drink in NY as well. Two teams. It is going to happen. Just a matter of time. Could be two years could be 10, but you can't bullish_t economics and free markets. Goods move to where they will sell the best. NFL teams sell best in NFL cities. From a economic standpoint, L.A. is an NFL city. Buffalo and WNY are not. 10 % of all of Erie County needs to show up to sell out the tired old Ralph. Less than 1% of those within L.A. city limits (forget about the neighboring areas ) will sell out Farmers Field. Plus the suites will be full (they have to practically give them away at the Ralph) at half a mil a pop. This is going to happen. Whether the Bills are involved really depends on Ralph's mortality. Long live the King! -
+1. From a won-loss perspective, this team will need to get worse before it can get better. Say goodbye to 2013. Enjoy the tailgate and watch the game at the Big Tree Inn. Seriously.

Excellent Pettine article in the Buffalo news
8-8 Forever? replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He will be coaching in Kollege in 3 years, after the Bills go 10 - 38 while blowing 3 more years "re-tooling" their roster to fit Pettine's 3 - 4 scheme. Lets see, they need a nose tackle, two outside LBs, one corner, and that only works if Dareus and Mario can hold the edge in a 3 - 4, which neither one probably will do because 1) Mario will be moved to outside LB where he proved to be pretty useless in Houston after Wade came in, so that's a $15m/year waste of $$. Dareus is a quick quick 3 technique inside one gap guy, so he will fail as a 3 - 4 5 technique two gap guy or a nose tackle, as we saw two years ago. Kyle is a smaller version of Dareus, a 3 - technique guy forced to play undersized as run-stufffer (ha!) at nose tackle instead of shooting the 3 gap which is his game. On paper, its all pretty much f-ed up I'm sorry to say. NFL players don't change their spots too well. This change to a base 3 - 4 looks like a mess. Fortunately, the game is not played on paper and the players will play hard to the whistle, like all Bills teams do to their credit, but the specialized 4 - 3 defensive personnel piled up by Jauron and Nix over the past 5 years simply do not fit what Pettine knows best. We shall see. Hard to be optimistic when coaches, players and schemes are either brand new or the personnel do not fit the scheme, or, in the case of the 2013 Bills, both. Sorry, I am a big Bills fan, but I am pretty down this franchise right now (as you can probably tell). Truth to power. -
Mark Anderson was a good pickup at a 4-3 right side DE. A very good pickup as they had literally no one to play that position and he was coming off a great year. OK, two things happened: 1) he got a serious injury right off the bat which wiped out the season, so we will never ever know what he could have done... 2) the coaching staff, front office and defensive scheme that brought a guy in who was strictly a 4-3 edge rush DE all GOT FIRED and replaced by a 3 - 4 defensive coach who needs neither edge rush three point stance DEs OR (frankly) playmaker safeties. In Pettine's disruptive, blitz scheme, the da-n play is over (for better or worse) before the safeties get involved, his D is all about shutdown corners supporting unpredictable blitz pressures out of a 3 -4 base. Basically, the changeover in the coaching staff has made the pickups of both Anderson and Mario bad (for the money) moves from a scheme standpoint, as neither one of them fits a 3 - 4 (from a scheme standpoint, Mario's impact in Houston dropped once Wade Phillips and his 3 - 4 came to town) . Neither does Byrd, in fact. So here we go again Bills fans, they acquired players for a 4 - 3 for 3 years, then blew up the coaching staff and brought in a new staff that will now spend 3 more years acquiring players for a 3 - 4 scheme, losing a crapload of games while they do it. sucks to be a Bills fan.

The destruction of the past and the rebuilding of the future continues. There will be a price to pay beyond what has already been paid. 4 -12 this year as the new parts are installed. Maybe. Could come out 0 -4, 0 - 5, something like that. I was down on Gailey and Fitz like everyone, but blowing everything up and starting from scratch from coaches/front office to skill positions has pretty much killed the 2013 season.

Why I am not optimistic about this team

Until Ralph dies. Then all bets are off.
