  1. those fans you simply ignore
  2. yep. QB is in the house. I like the team. add talent in the draft and sign our top players, and go from there. unless the injury bug raises up and kills the roster , they should be very good next year.
  3. Why wouldn't you root for your own team? Heck, its the "burn it all down! " knuckleheads on this board who drove Fitz/Gailey out of town in the first place... so now you're all warm and fuzzy and want him to succeed? Geez make up your minds
  4. no monday morning QB please. leave the past in the past
  5. Does this guy who "writes" for the Olean paper EVER have anything good to say? Man, must be depressing down in Olean. I mean, every time his silly little column in his silly little paper shows up, its nothing but the sky is falling.. Geez, stop posting this column on OBD
  6. stop. just stop. agreed. leave the past in the past. Ralph/Marrone/Schwartz is the past. the rear view mirror. sucks to have a near dead owner holding a franchise back for 10 years, but that era is thankfully over. time to move forward. Bills fans have tortured long memories. go find something to do for the next 6 months, I guarantee this will be quite a team next year. we have an effective QB and a complete offense. The D players don't fit, but that is normal when you blow everything up with new coaches/schemes. That's on Ralph lame duck period combined with Pegs making a business decision to move away from Marrone. On balance, it worked out, Pegs saved the franchise for WNY, but you are getting coaches and therefore schemes Pegs chooses. Can't have it both ways.
  7. agree. year 2 will be different as TT will get all the #1 reps for the next 8 months. No more "QB competition mode". He is the starter, period. Plus he will be healthy and now he knows how to avoid injury. I like it going forward. We really need the Goodwin/Harvin combo Big Ben has with Wheaton/Bryant. Injuries really hurt the WR position this year. Harvin/Goodwin both to IR. Killer. And Sammy still got open. Good stuff ahead, people. Kaepernick went from 16 to 26 to 30 attempts per game his first 3 years as starter. Don't blow it up now. Roman knows what he is doing because he's done it before. Lose Rex you lose Roman.
  8. that type of coach doesn't exist. almost all HCs are former coordinators.
  9. All Pegs had to do was give Marrone the extension (the extension he had the right to ask for since new owners usually leave the existing coaches out in the cold) and you and baby Mario would have kept your precious Schwartz defense; news flash: Pegs said no. and that was what set all the wheels in motion. you have your blame percentages reversed. Rex is Rex, of all the coaches available , he is the one where you know EXACTLY what you will get. and Pegs with full knowledge and eyes open picked him. this is 90% on Pegs, sorry...
  10. Dareus has had a tough year. not sure much of his family is still alive; lots of violent death and tragedy in his family and friends. don't have all the details, but this super young guy probably just survived mentally this year. you saw nothing of the joyful kid we saw in prior seasons. this kid is hurting I suspect, and I suspenct it has little to do with defensive scheme changes.
  11. we all know the answer is no. when the mass NFL HC firings occur next month, Schwartz is in the mix for a HC job and might get one. He would have been in the mix last year had he been available.
  12. Can we stop the fire Rex threads already? It's not happening. Find something positive to post please. This subject is an utter, absolute dead end. I am very excited for next year as Darby, Miller, Karlos and TT will be conditioning and preparing like NFL starters in our system for an entire offseason, WRs and LBs wll be added and a good offense will become great and a new defense will become potent again. get positive people. we got a good thing here.
  13. This article is so dead on. Balanced and thoughtful. And right. Losing Aaron and Kyle Williams early and for the season was huge on a team learning a new defense. Also, the only two leaders on the defense, removed. Injuries are massive swing variables in this league; yeah yeah, Steelers and Pats got through, but 49ers last year, Colts and Cowboys this year were destroyed by injuries to key guys. Cinci got to 10-0 bc they had not one serious injury, not one. Just sayin' now they are screwed with Dalton out. Redskins are better now that a half a dozen key guys are back playing. Injuries matter, either lots of them, or injuries to key guys. We win the London game with a healthy backfield, no question, for example. Mario is what he is. No one thought he'd make it past this year. He hated when Wade had him as a stand up LB in Houston too. He's just not happy if he isn't the feature pass rusher guy. he's perfect as a 3-4 edge setting DE, but the big, slow baby doesn't "want to do THAT". Baby. As the article says, Rex had him perfectly positioned for this stage of his career, and the big baby pooped on it. I hate that the player contracts have the guaranteed $$. Was better years ago when if you didn't want a guy, you cut him with no $$ implications going forward. Rex will adjust for 2016 now that he is seeing that QBs are getting it out more quickly. But he won't adjust mid season after just spending an entire offseason teaching the defense to his new team. He knows what his guys can do now. This doesn't get fixed in one season. Marrone wanted a multi year commitment from the new owner and the new owner would not give it to him. Marrone and Schwartz could have been here this year just fine. Pegs forced Marrone's hand. Marrone was smart to build an escape hatch to get through after Ralph died and "who knows who your next boss will be". Pegs is the answer to everyone's complaints. He triggered everything getting blown up by looking sideways at Marrone a year ago. Maybe that was the right thing to do, but then fans don't get to complain that the new coach "didn't use the same system the old coach used", that never happens . Coaches build scheme philosophies over years and years, they know what then want to do, if the players don't fit, the coach still has what he wants to do and he will use his scheme as the first course of action naturally. If you didn't like Rex's defensive exotica, then don't hire the guy, because thats what he is going to execute first. Well, the guy who saved the franchise for WNY picked Rex. Fans' complaints are with Pegs , not Rex. Rex is doing what Rex does just like every other coach. He will adjust for next year now that he has learned his players and his opposition. I am not that concerned.
  14. yes we get it. and its the players that will change long b4 the coaches do.. this ship sailed a year ago when Marrone bailed and Rex was hired. new sheriff in town, new game plan.. gotta change out the parts now... this is the way it goes all across the NFL... Mario just learned what happens when coaching staffs get blown up
  15. he's just trying to set up his son in the business.. that's been his motive for getting back in for years....
  16. fans are stupid. they think its high school. DE's on run downs have to contain the tackle while others make the tackle. While one can easily argue we are paying mario too much to just 'set the edge', that is what the defense asks him to do. So we will cut him. no big deal. he was overpaid during the death watch Ralph era where we couldn't get any top coaches FAs to even think about coming to a franchise about to be blown up (and they were right to stay away, other than Mario, who got paid to come, because they did blow it up). It's all good, its part of having blown up the thing; many of the player/salaries don't make sense anymore. Mario is example #1. He is a power rushing, hand in dirt DE made into just one little cog in the Rex defensive wheel. Rex took the teeth out of him, and he has e every right to be pissed. you don't pay $20m for that. So cut him and be done with it. no big deal. take a 5m guy and do same thing with him. Rex just needs basic thinking talent that can communicate fast and do what they are told... don't need $20m guys . Rex is a scheme guy , not a pro bowl player guy. the scheme and the play call stop the offense , not any one player; the typical fan wants big splash plays by one guy.. Rex's defense forces boring passes out of bounds or in the ground. no entertainment with that... so the average dumb fan is pissed. I have no tolerance for fans. does Rex need different players, sure, and he will get them, but don't blame him , his scheme is proven, look at the Ravens, Jets, etc. those Defense were great. .
  17. coulda woulda shoulda give it up. seasons over. move on. "they'll be better next year". there, i said it
  18. you just made my point. thank you. been waiting for someone to say this. while QBR is not perfect, obviously our problems lie elsewhere my friend... wonder what Cam's QBR was in HIS first 13 games.... hmmm, bet it was way less than 101 where TT is
  19. If you mean "draft a QB #1" if a QB with better potential than TT is available at #15 thru #20 where we will be drafting #1, sure, take him ( and Good luck with that... ). But remember, Mario will be gone and Kyle's status is who knows plus LB is a problem, plus what if Gilmore walks? Upgrading the backup with a player who has most of what TT has would be good as well (we may already have that, though).. not sure QB is our nearly the problem it was. TT has done more than enough in his rookie season to "merit entering the offseason as this team's starting QB" (sigh..). You are always looking to upgrade every position, and I am sure they will do that. I don't totally agree with you; my reasoning is that there won't be a strong QB available when we draft, so why blow a high pick just to get a guy? We did that with EJ, blew a #1 on a QB in a weak QB draft like the one coming up. Especially when we have a top 15 QBR QB after only his first 13 games?
  20. If you're looking for a limited camp rep rookie QB to carry you to 10 + wins on his own while being protected inside a run-heavy gameplan (as the D has misfired Rex's defense for the most part ), you're dreaming. Team game my friend. TT hasn't had much help from the other side of the ball. Only a half dozen skilled, experienced QBs in the league can carry a team whose defense is getting blasted. 26 teams don't have one of those. We're one of 'em. Don't net out the status of a rookie QB based on how many wins he was part of. you can start that 12-24 months from now . until then its just rings hollow to me won't be anyone there when we draft #18 plus or minus. not a chance. lets move on from the "draft the savior" discussion, shall we? get a guy in the 4th and go from there. we have bigger needs than QB. Defensive front 7 (mario gone and kyle might be done, etc), LB, RT, etc.
  21. QBR my friend. QBR ignores offensive philosophy differences and allows you to compare TT to Rivers, for example, who plays in a wildly different offensive scheme and team situation. Some of what you quote is irrelevant and driven by play calling (attempts, TDs, YPG) . Sure, if Roman had him throwing 500+ passes, sure his attempts numbers would be higher (wow , now there's an critical stat: attempts (sigh). QBR is the only stat that even attempts to measure the the guy independant of the scheme, IMHO.
  22. QB rating is where I hang my hat. that's where turnovers, sacks, yds per attempt etc come in. total yards can be a misleading, low value stat (see Philip Rivers), TDs including running, he is top 10 (he's not QB sneakin em in, his rushing TDs are unique talent) , QB rating at 11 with new offense in rookie year, is outstanding by any measure. and that is his low ranking for the year in QBR i believe. Been top 10 most every week. Hard to argue with the guy after 13 pro starts. He's not prototypical, but he on one good leg is arguably after 13 starts the most talented, no turnover QB we've had in a very long time..
  23. its not hope, the guy is actually doing it on the field . the numbers are the numbers. any drafted rookie in a 'rebuilding situation' puts up the kind of numbers TT has put up, and we are "annointing the savior". but this fan base is so bruised and battered, they can't even see the forest from the trees anymore.. its all reactionary garbage, 'fire everyone', dissension at the top, blah blah. they weren't burning down the house in Pittsburgh when Vick and Jones were stinking it up in Ben's absence. Why to we do it?
  24. OK, who's it gonna be? We're gonna blow a #1 on maybe the 3rd or 4th best QB in a very weak QB draft class? are you insane? we just did that with EJ, for crying out loud. TT is himself a young QB who just played the first 14 or 15 NFL games of his career and put up top 10 numbers. we aren't rebuilding, we have top 10 talent at WR, TE and RB and a young solid Oline. You gonna start over with ANOTHER rookie QB next year and repeat the exact same thing you saw this year (or probably worse bc at least TT watched for few years)? again? this fan base is insane. win a couple games and its SB, lose a couple and its off with their heads. lunatics.
