  1. Yep. Upon Ralph's demise and an open auction of the team, it is hard to imagine the numbers working for someone to both outbid everyone else for the team AND run it in WNY. If they stay in RWS it might work, but if a new stadium is part of the requirement, then hard to imagine anyone taking that kind of financial risk. No owner in the league wants their team to play at RWS and share half of that paltry gate when they can split half the gate in L.A., where tickets will be 2 to 3 times what they are at RWS. The bills staying in Buffalo post-Ralph has to be viewed as absolutely a possibility given an existing stadium/fan base but who wants to financially risk $700Million(!) to run a business in an economic climate like WNY?
  2. um.. the "forward lateral" was not forward, it was a great play incredibly well executed and caught the Bills completely with their pants down. Every time I see it, and I am a 40 yr Bills fan, I just say, 'great call coach', you got us there. that's all you can say. waiting for the refs to hand you a title will have you waiting a long time. bv
  3. Elda, if Ralph picks Green, he will sell about 15 season tickets next year. People will abandon this organization like never before. Buddy will be compared to Matt Millen and Stevie Nix.
  4. The bills seem to be a best player available drafter in round 1, then go for need. that actually makes sense to me.
  5. Now we're talkin' kind of the reverse of the last strike year, where the Bills came out hot, the strike happened, and the season went in the crapper because Ralph didn't care to put a good scab team on the field
  6. Agreed on Kaepernick. He will be a gamer in the NFL. Newton would be a waste at no 3. We should trade down, get another pick and get Kaepernick as well
  7. thanks. wow, color pictures of that era have to be extremely rare... who was No.20 back then?
  8. I've had a left knee MCL sprain, not even a tear, and no way can you plant that foot and throw a football. The ligament has been stretched and doesn't do its job. When you try to plant the knee collapses to the side of the sprain. Collapses. You can stand around and walk VERY carefully in a straight line, but thats it. A brace would not have meant ****. I do not know whether the inside or outside of the knee was affected in Cutler's case, but mine was on the inside and I was out of commission while the ligament tightened up again -- it will never be the same but as long as you strengthen the tendons you can be ok. The original poster has no clue what she is talking about.. do the research before you post.
  9. The fact that a guy of that stature actually signed with arguably the least desirable franchise in the league is a huge positive and could lead to other FA signings. It could be a bellwether of better times ahead.
  10. The media really spends no time thinking about the Bills. The Bills haven't been part of the NFL conversation for so long, it's just easy to say "yeah, they suck, Fitz looks like a college town waiter, give 'em a QB, that makes sense". That's about all the analysis you get. Then they move on to the interesting teams, teams with controversy, issues. you know, stuff to write about. Buffalo is a ghost town from a journalistic standpoint. Nobody home. Chan Gailey? Boring, retread, no story there. Ralph Wilson? cold and old, no story there. Buddy Nix? Dry as sandpaper, no story there. The Bills are boring. I've been rooting for 40 years, and even I think the Bills are boring. yep, the media couldn't care less who the Bills pick. take that to the bank. Exactly, just trade down from no 3 , get more picks and just draft best player available. the Bills need more talented young bodies, as many as they can get. problem; we may not know if we have a rookie cap by the time the draft happens
  11. I'm no fan of Dick Jauron, but losing Eric Studesville along with him was a bigger loss than the average joe six pack fantasy football guy in lackawanna realizes. this guy was an expert running backs coach and largely made Jackson, who also got great reps in NFL Europe (rushing champion, etc) what he is today. Spiller came in cold from Junior year in college, knowing zero about being a running back at the NFL level. there is no comparing Fred's first or second year to Spiller's first year. Spiller is learning now what Jackson learned in NFL Europe and with Studesville. No way Spiller was going to be an impact player day 1. They invested in him. He is a project they couldn't let get away. But OK, lets say we do it your way. Now that he, by his own admission, "gets" how to run in the NFL, Let's cut him now and move on. And look forward to seeing him in a Patriots or Jets or Steelers uniform about 30 seconds later ( and twice a year for the next 5-8 years.) Cut him now. Just like Peters, Winfield, Williams and all the rest of the really naturally talented players we have coached up and showed the way. You are right. You are too impatient. What are you gonna do when they lose another 10-11 games this rebuilding season (highly highly likely)?? Call for Gailey's head? and start all over? We're all frustrated. but it took 5 years to get to where we are. will take several years to fix.
  12. He paid his debt to society. He is rebuilding his life, having seen the prison cell. Isn't that the way the corrections process is exactly supposed to work? Vick's work happens to be in the entertainment business, and endorsement deals are part of the package. You must be a death penalty guy. One strike and your out. Nice.
  13. I wonder what the draft order will be in 2012 if there is no season in 2011?? Same? the bills could use TWO drafts worth of players before taking the field again...
  14. It is good to be Ralph's niece. She's probably not competent, but that really doesn't matter. She just draws a salary because she's Ralph's niece. Sucks, but it happens all the time in family run businesses. And it is very discouraging to the non family members of the management team, but that is what you buy into when you join a family-run business. The reason Modrak is still around is he has probably managed to ingratiate himself into the family to some extent. Good strategy. Kiss the ring daily and you get to stick around.
  15. Tell me exactly who the Bills beat to get 10 wins next year. this I gotta see
  16. Yep. From a marketing standpoint, Hamilton would be ideal, halfway between WNY and Toronto. Put the stadium right on the lake, tailgating for all, right next to the QEW. If the alternative is the Bills in L.A. that would not be the absolute worst thing that could happen. Not sure how many Torontonians will trek down to Hamilton for a game and pay top dollar, though. When Ralph dies, he probably gets it. He is not thinking expansion team my friend, he is thinking the Bills. Hard to imagine a WNY group outbidding a Toronto group in an open auction.
  17. NO one blows me away at #3. If a rookie cap is in place (meaning trading down is a real option), I want to trade down and have 3 or 4 picks in the top 50. We need more young, talented bodies to choose from to build this team. The Bills are looking at only 5 or 6 wins in '11 anyway, lets continue to build . Anyway, there are no silver bullet players in this draft other than maybe Fairley.. Lets get 8 or 9 good picks this year and "trade the whole draft away" next year to get Luck. That is what I would do.
  18. and you know what, 2011 will be just about the same. 1-5 in the division best case--that is a given. Split the rest of the games against the AFC West and NFC East and you are 6 - 10 if the moon and stars align. 5-11 probably a better bet. Then we trade up and get Luck-y (hopefully). By midseason, you'll be hoping the Bills lose out. Sorry, this team will be better next year (because we can't be any worse - I think), but the schedule is tough again.
  19. bills get half the gate from away games. Ralph wants half of the Jets and Pats home gate with their high priced tickets, not poor boys Cinci and Cleveland. Ralph must be hated by visiting teams. Half of the gate at the Ralph is like 1/4 of the gate anywhere else. When another owner sees a Bills away game they have to fire two or three staffers to compensate for the revenue reduction !
  20. a vote for 2nd round is a no vote for chickens. he will not be avail in the 2nd.
  21. We could easily be going back 4-3
  22. Trading players for draft choices is fairly rare, unless the player has many years left on their contract at relatively low dollars.
  23. If no rookie salary cap is in place next year, I would trade down and get a second second round pick if possible. None of Auburns players looked all that great last night. Of course, Against Oregons gimmick offense, you got no sense as to any of the defensive guys on auburn. This is why you sign guyslike merriman, if healthy, we know for a fact he can play at the NFL level (at a minimum). Rookies are a crapshoot (Glen Dorsey comes to mind as a near bust) with rare exceptions (Suh, Ngata, ). there are no Suhs or Ngatas in this draft. In fact, there are no sure things in this draft at all. This AJ Green kid is a beanpole. he may have trouble dealing wiht the NFL. All the QBs have noticeable weaknesses, be it mobility or arm or brains. Trade down. Be active in (assuming there is a CBA soon) what will be a huge Free Agency year. I think the Merriman, signing was brilliant. That is not a second tier player in the twilight of his career (a la Stroud, Davis, et al) go bills.
  24. This is the key post. Anyone we draft must have more potential than Levi Brown. And Brown has a head start as he is already has a pro season under his belt.
  25. Starks had some BIG holes to run through. He was a monster at UB. The Willy/Roosevelt/Starks title team was great to watch. Probably never happen again with Turner Gill gone, but good while it lasted.
