  1. and in the entertainment business, buffalo does not sell. so whether they are journalist/reporters and there is never any news about buffalo worth reporting or entertainers who ignore a backwater no one cares about, WNY will always be ignored by the media. its just not part of the national conversation at any level. its just a big Akron. great place to raise a family, true and if you know where you are going like I do it's a lot of fun, but no one not from the area really is interested in what goes on there. sorry, even if they win they will get grudging attention I hope we take Newton. With all the QB controversy that will bring, plus not addressing the needs on the lines we will tank the season at 2-14.. then we can take Luck next year.
  2. Agreed. Newton will be a bust.
  3. If Gailey is such a QB magician, then he can work with Kapernick (who is as much an athletic freak as Cam, and maybe moreso) taken in round 3 and we still get to draft defense in rounds 1 and 2. It's all a sham, we will be trading down with someone who wants Newton. That is my hope.
  4. Agreed. No franchise QB in this years draft. Give it up Bills fans. No silver bullet this year. Lets just get better with some good athletes, get Carrington and Batten on the field and hope we get a shot at Andrew Luck next year.
  5. Based on what we know about Luck, absolutely. He looks like the next Peyton Manning.
  6. Of course. Hard to imagine DW not being the D coordinator in 2012. Chan is a stand up guy, he will stick with the guy he hired as D Coord and not just can him because DW became available. If the D is great, then he will deal with it a year from now.
  7. We traded him for a fairly high draft pick, correct? a 2nd?
  8. I am absolutely trading down for more picks if your scenario plays out. If I am stuck with the pick, I probably take Peterson as best player available. McGee is probably finished, McKelvin is average at best, Corner and Bouty will never be starters and our CBs need to be shut down in the 3-4. It's a passing league, I expect our run D to be better simply because Batten and Carrington will be full go plus Troup is prepping big time. Secondary will prob be our weak spot within 1 or 2 years, believe it or not. Jets and Pats are very good passing teams and you know Miami will get a QB to throw to their good WRs. Sounds crazy, but if cannot trade down and get more good bodies in a very very deep draft, I take Peterson as a sure thing.
  9. Andy Reid has it right. You never call out a player in the media.. ever. You rip him to shreds in private. All trust between player(who is working to get better based on the coaching) is gone once you have embarrassed a player in public. Gailey has it wrong. And the media will now have him dissecting every player in public. Not good. He will lose the team if he keeps this up. And lose his job, and then we start all over again. There is a reason guys like Reid keep their jobs a long time and blabber mouths like Gailey change jobs every 3 years.
  10. Accurate quick decision making is actually what Fitz is known for. He does his piece. He decides, is fearless and the ball comes out fast. The team does not run the ball well, it's O Line is thin and sad and its WR group is just now above average. So what is the problem with Fitz? He actually should have a much improved 2011 with no Edwards in the way, IMO. Drafting a clown like Newton who has played a dozen competitive football games just makes a mess out of the QB position, again. But it will sell tickets. Their are NO elite QBs in this draft. Give it up. The year the Bills draft #3 there are no QBs. Figures.
  11. If Dareus is gone, I agree on the trade down.
  12. In an open auction of the bills after Ralph's death, with the team going to the highest bidder regardless of location (these are Ralph's stated wishes), it is hard to imagine the highest bidder seeing Buffalo, New York as the best place to make any kind of a financial return on his $800 million(that's with an M) investment. Just don't see it. There will definately be bids tied to keeping the team in low low revenue WNY (lowest ticket price in the league, empty luxury suites, tiny merchandise sales, none of which can be increased given the poor local economy), but I cannot imagine those bids would be enough to win. Happy to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it.
  13. this the reason you do not draft Cam Newton at #3 . All potential, nothing proven. winning a national champ. with a stellar dfense adds up to very little for me. Give me another 3 win season and a shot at Andrew Luck. Or take Kaepernick in round 3 or 4 and see what he can do.
  14. Other than time warp places like Buffalo with its $40 ticket prices, the NFL has already been ruined for the average family. That ship sailed many years ago. Where the heck have you been? Football is a great TV game, I just watch on TV. Too many drunken 20-something animals in the stadium these days. If you pay $100 for a ticket, you are making it Mardi Gras. In Buffalo, its Mardi Gras with a $40 ticket. Well, actually Animal House. Which is fine, but I'm not 25 anymore. And I have to have a brain on Monday morning, unlike most NFL stadium goers (especially in Buffalo).
  15. We can only hope this happens. Newton will be a bust.
  16. the players have no shot in this standoff. unless the league is broken up into two competing leagues with no salary cap, unlimited free agency, etc. the owners are the only game in town and will just wait out the players. If the league/union marriage is destroyed then you have major league baseball with the Jets, Cowboys, Redskins being the only good teams, as they will have all the good players. and that will be the end of the Bills as a competitive team. The more Bills fans support the players lawsuit against the league, they are supporting the imposition of a system that will kill their team. think about it. If the NFL becomes a free for all with NO salary cap and players free to go anywhere (no franchise tags, etc.), the NFL become at best the NBA and at worst MLB.
  17. Plus D Bell has a full offseason lifting and getting bigger, quicker , faster as well. He did nothing but rehab the Knee prior to last year, so he looked like a basketball player in a football uniform. This offseason he does the full body program.. look for him to be a different looking/playing guy this year as well.
  18. The Bills are so far from the NFL conversation. The media really couldn't care less who the Bills draft. In fact they couldn't care less about the Bills, period. Just the way it is when your franchise is dead in the water in a place the media couldn't care less about. Start winning and things will change. A little.
  19. The day Gene Upshaw suddenly died from pancreatic cancer I knew this was probably coming. When a non player lawyer tough guy like DeMaurice Smith was hired I was certain this was coming. No matter, the teams can wait out the players indefinately.
  20. totally. the NFL is a monopoly. and it is best run as one. the players have no other league to play in. even if the league is broken up into the old AFL and NFL (let's just say) leagues, it would be many years before the players made the kind of $$ and benefits they have with todays well organized and marketed money machine. the players are just screwing themselves by doing this. the more they mess with the status quo in court and the longer this takes, the more they get hurt. Maybe "He Hate Me" can come out of retirement and play in the new UFL. For $20/hour. Thanks for the input and, don't get me wrong... but... please finish high school before you post again. This thread was actually adding value to the larger discussion before you posted. Thanks/
  21. Unions sign contracts setting wage and benefit levels with private businesses all the time without being able to examine the private business' books. the Construction industry being the largest example of this. My sense is the owners don't want to reveal that family members are on the payroll, drawing salaries and how much they are, etc etc. Think of Mary Wilson, for example. The numbers would inevitably leak and a media circus would ensue. The teams probably lend money (on an arm's length basis) to other of the owners businesses, etc. All kinds of largely above board stuff, but would create a media circus the owners don't need. they hold all the cards. they can wait the players out indefinately.
  22. the owners hold all the cards. they are just waiting out the players. the owners have other sources of income. the NFL is just something they mess with. the players have nothing other than the game. the owners come out on top no matter what happens. the players just haven't figured it out yet. everyone gets rich, so not a big deal. the offseason is boring anyway.
  23. That would be the dream scenario. We can only wish and hope. Luck is the next Ryan/Flacco/Manning. No one disputes that. On a practical note, Nix will get a backup in FA to go with Brown. No big deal. Lots of them around. You may even see JP Losman back. who knows.
  24. Ralph isn't cheap. He just doesn't know what he is doing.
