Gailey refused to abandon the run, even when Spiller was getting stuffed, and that is the big difference from the first game. This allowed all the play action and hitting the slants again.
-
Hmm... yeah, probably need to assume he is gone. I am not sold on D Jones, so we may have a new number 1 and 2 next year (assuming SJ holds out for top5 $$ and the Bills say "no")
-
This game will cost him many dollars in contract. Sign him before the season is over, though. No one will pay him top 10 dollars. Sign Fred. same argument (no one will pay him top 5 RB dollars). Could result in some holdouts for sure.

Chan Gailey's Future

two more years. I want to see this team in 2013 with a salary floor where they have to pay out pretty much the entire salary cap in salaries. then Ralph cannot cheap out and might as well pay his players. with no free agent losses and maybe a couple adds, you get the real team. If we are still a 8-8 team in 2013, then you switch and "start all over again". Plus Ralph probably passes before then anyway and the whole thing is up for grabs , from players to coaches to owners.... so lets keep today's group together and win some games ... since it all gets blown up when ownership changes, why blow it up now just to blow it up again in 3-4 years when ownership changes... Wrong. Eric Studesville, the best RB coach in the league bar none, made Willis McGahee what he was, Marshawn Lynch what he is, Fred Jackson what he is and now with the Broncos what moreno and MaGahee wha t they are now. McGahee is like a new man in Denver.. best play in years. Getting rid of Jauron was good,. losing Studesville, Koogs and the other fantastic assistants he had was a tremendous loss. Spiller would benefit greatly from Studesville... -
A Few Thoughts About The Game

you are wrong. Fitz was absolutely amazing in that game. If SJohnson plays like a pro and catches the perfect strike thrown to him a few plays earlier, we win with a bunch of rookies and guys out of position on the field and Fitz is a genius. -
State of the Team after the loss
8-8 Forever? replied to PNW_Bills_Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This time it looks different. If they had come out and continued to stink it up yesterday I would be nervous that it truly is all a mirage. But with a third of the starters either rookies or out of position they had the Jets beat if Johnson catches the ball right in his hands across the middle at the end. -
They played 4 very promising rookies on defense yesterday, and they played well. New center and shuffled O LIne. Let it go. If they still completely suck next year after an entire offseason and camp, then you start thinking about letting the whole staff go. They were never going to the playoffs this year. the first 7 games were a fluke driven by an insane number of takeaways and short fields.

This is an important post. I looked up Wanny's history and he is a 4-3 "over" guy from his UMiami and Miami days. If we go that way, they actually have the guys in Carrington, Kelsay and Edwards to play end as pass rush is not the emphasis. The ends in those defenses crash the inside shoulder of the tackle and "spill" every run to the outside and create pass rush from inside out. Might be OK. I still think Wanny and Gailey are up to something, having all kinds of guys (Carrington, etc) playing 4-3 def. end this year. I'm telling you, they are experimenting. They are trying to figure out who can do what. It's like preseason. The best is yet to come once Geo Edwards is gone and Wanny takes over.

Chan Gailey's Future

At least. No more revolving door. New coach means all new coordinators, new schemes , then you have the wrong players for the those schemes, then you have to rebuild the entire roster to fit the coaches new schemes, blah, blah blah ... no more. Just stick with the guys you have. They are trying hard , the players are trying hard. Just not enough of them with all the injuries. -
I think Nix is just waiting to put more pieces in place next year. He knows he is probably half way through putting talent back on the team after 5 or 6 empty drafts. He gets a lot of money to spend in 2013 when teams must actually spend almost all of the entire salary cap. He knew going in the team isn't winning anything this year. That is why you don't hear much from him. He can't say that to the fans. Gailey is working with what he has, seeing who can do what after no OTAs and little training camp. Almost like a long preseason. They got lucky with turnover city for 4 or 5 games, beginning with a gift on the opening kickoff in KC. Everyone's hopes got up, but the situation was what it was. Young team, fresh faces and who knew who could do what. The problem is the fans and the media jump on it and anoint them the next big thing but Gailey and Nix know that is probably not so. It is all done in bits and pieces over time. Losing Easley and Parrish and Evans right out of the box hurt more than people realize. The goods news is the O Line is getting some depth now, Spiller will get 6 full games of touches to see what he is all about and we got at least 4 starters out of this draft. Plus Merriman finally got the surgery he should have gotten two years ago. Wood, Kyle Williams come back next year. Edwards is replaced by Wannstadt. It is all good. Just treat the rest of this year as preseason for next year. It is the only way to look at it. This team is really loading up in my opinion. And they'll have the $$ to pay them all in 2013. Things are looking up, believe it or not.

The Jets shut out the Bills tomorrow. I see no reason why the Bills score a single point tomorrow, other than off turnovers. -
Fitz is the only qb I want in Buffalo-lamp

Same for whoever Tony Romo was backing up. Or Chad Henne (Matt Moore can play, watch out), Lot's very good NFL QBs never got a chance until whoever they were backing up went down or screwed up. -
Some of the issues I feel the Bills are faced with

It will be good when the salary cap floor hits for 2013 and Ralph must spend 90+% of the salary cap on players. Then the cheapskate days will be over and we can get some bodies in here. That will be a great day. Will hurt the pocketbooks of the small city teams but will help the product on the field.. -

I don't expect him to do much against the Jets defense. Won't be anywhere to run. -
Nix may be the biggest problem
8-8 Forever? replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh shut up you idiot. What are you, 16? Nix just got here, inheriting 6-7 years of horrible, devastatingly ****ty drafting. The place was a empty house, talent-wise. It was barely an expansion team (but you're either too young or lame to remember those). No team in NFL history has come close to the Super Bowl in 30 years by going crazy in free agency. You do it through the draft and Nix probably drafted 4 starters this year at least (Hairston, Dareus, Williams and Sheppard.. and maybe Searcy).. this will take years to turn around. The AFC is weak but the Bills were bubble boy weak.. Anyone calling for Nix and Gailey to go just stay off the boards .. just go away . This is Buffalo your talking about. The entire staff will be blown up as soon as a new owner shows up, so you will get your wish eventually. Lets just stick with these guys until Ralph passes. No more revolving doors pls on OBD. -
Looks like we get at least 4 starters out of this draft.

Poor Bills . Served up like Thankgiving dessert to the Jets by NYC serving CBS for all the world to see. Sad. Bills need to crawl into a corner for the rest of the season. I'll TIVO it and go play golf. Assuming they lose, I will delete it. I've seen enough. -

Is there any doubt we need a FRANCHISE QB ?
8-8 Forever? replied to Reed'scatch83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
but you were OK with winning against eagles, pats and raiders based on their crazy mistakes.... it all evens out over a season and after 10 or 12 games, you know what you really have. Looks like a .500 football team. I'll take it after last season. -

now that's a fan! -
I am amazed at the comparisons. 2008 out 5-1 with a bunch of breaks. 2011 out 5-2 getting killed from scrimmage but with a bunch of lucky breaks v Pats, Eagles and Raiders. 4 game losing streak 2008 getting embarrassed v Pats of Cassell and GreenEllis , 2011 about to be 4 game losing streak getting embarrassed in EVERY game... actually, the team was in better shape at this point in 2008 than they are now. Getting back to 2008's 7 - 9 record will be a big challenge. Wow. Welcome to life with the Bills.

Well, two essentially pick sixes off tipped passes and a blocked punt TD did not help yesterday. Probably would have been an OK game without those. Turnovers kill you in the NFL. that game showed how. Don't turn the ball over, you are in every game. Turnovers and the short fields they provide to the offense decide games in the NFL more than anything else . Bills are not getting the amazing fluke turnovers off guys feet and heads like they were in the first month and now they are going the other way with tipped balls going to the other team. 5-5 is about the right record for this team. Now, with all the injuries, they are not going 3-3 the rest of the way IMO. Tough season. I was there at the "white out" tailgate b4 the Jets game. Oh, how things have changed in two short weeks. See you at the draft. -

Agreed. Fitz got paid simply to avoid having to franchise him at $20M per year.. His guaranteed $$ is about what franchising him for 2 years would have paid.. i think..
