Watching the games yesterday, it is clear to me the Bills are pretty far away from being competitive against the top teams. Simply do not have the horses to play at that level. Any of the 4 teams from yesterday would slaughter the Bills in that situation. We don't have the powerful LBS, the versatile fearless cool headed QB, the dominating WRs ... heck the kickers on those teams are power players. We can imagine it, but we are sooo far away. As far as todays games, We competed well against Houston , but Seattle, Atlanta and NE would run us off the field. Sad. Bills are a D3 team in a D1 league. Maybe that will change, but some really big pieces need to be put in place fast...

Love Stevie. With a solid thrower and a decent #2, he would tear it up behind the threat of CJ running it. Man, I am back on the bandwagon... that took exactly 2 weeks. Man it sucks to be a bills fan.

Yep. He has all the tools. Has for a awhile. If he had come out last year, he'd be playing instead of Weedon and Tannehill... maybe not doing any better, but he'd be out there...

they will do both 1 and 2 imo

I re-watched the bowl game and shafer is very very aggressive, pressuring on any down regardless of situation. gives up big plays but makes more than they give up

Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach

Yep. But who knows , couldn't get much worse at OBD, so why not try this guy? The average knucklehead Bills fan gets the Bronx-born sideline screamer they crave , OBD gets a team - friendly contract and a low end staff a new owner can easily blow away and replace when he takes over. Has Russ Brandon (Syracuse guy, BTW) written all over it. What's not to like? -
Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach

Lovie, no, because we don't have the super talented players for the crappy tampa 2 defense he loves and never will . Wiz, yes, because when he had a QB he went to the SB. And he could bring a real NFL staff with him. Marrone will be making this up as he goes.. NFL teams are run by the OC, DC and all the assistants. Marrone has to make all this up from scratch.. Really risky hire. Marrone may be ok, but his staff coaches the team. We shall see. this hire is all bills fans could have reasonably hoped for. keep the seat warm for the day ownership changes and we start all over again. -

Because the only coach who would consider Buffalo an upgrade is one who today is in f ing Syracuse. He's cheap since he is coming from the college ranks and he's local, so the thought of coming to "old and cold" is just more of the same. Sounds like the Bills to me. They will not pay Lovie or Wiz 5 or 6 mil/per to be HC. no way. Good hire. Syracuse looked good against WV. He'll bring his college staff with him, heck the Bills are pretty much a college team anyway. and he will be fired exactly 34 months from now or sooner if ownership changes. and we will start over again. again. did I say, again? Isn't it great to be a bills fan? -
ha ha ha. welcome to your Buffalo Bills... I love how bills fans don't realize how bad their franchise looks to the rest of the league... this is not a place you want to be ... where careers go to die.... unless you have ties to the area or are desperate to get back in the league as a HC or it is the only job left on the board (Jauron, Gailey), you steer clear of this nightmare.

So did Taj Boyd against the closest thing to an NFL defense any college QB will see

Why does Cleveland and Kansas City have more talent?
8-8 Forever? replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
cleveland has a lot more going for it than buffalo. not even close. both as a destination and a franchise. committed, stable, aggressive ownership, new stadium and facilities...vibrant downtown redevelopment... and lets face it, Cleveland did in the 80's and 90's what buffalo politicians just talked about and studied. by the time a franchise QB is ready in B lo , the rest of the team will have fled in free agency. watch what levitre does -
Bills opening ranked 4th best opportunity
8-8 Forever? replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. Like any job decision involving relocation. Bills will get a coach once Lovie and Wiz and all the other better candidates have played off the Bills big money offer and are gone. We will get another Gailey. I cannot see it going any other way. This is a crappy franchise compared to the others with openings. Only college guys and pro assistants take this job. -
Whaley, Nix, and the entire staff gets blown up and replaced when ownership changes upon Ralph's demise. Who in their right mind takes that HC job when six, count 'em, SIX others are available with stable franchises. You know the answer. We will get some college coach, just as we did Gailey. The only way it can end.

I'll believe the $400m lease break penalty keeps the team from moving to L.A. when i see it. No one is taking this job and relocating their family, etc etc etc (and anyone who's done it knows how disruptive that is) when other comparable jobs are available. Why? Because as soon as ownership changes (which could be this year, for all we know), you get fired and replaced by the new regime (see Cleveland for the latest example of that -- I'll bet Pat Shurmer is glad he took THAT gig). If the Bills are the only HC job left on the board, fine, you take it if its offered, but not until the well of stable offers is dry. This is just human nature. Bills will watch the stable franchises pick off the best guys and we will get another GaileyWanny combo. Watch it happen. There is no other way it can go.

Doug Marrone will interview w/Bills
8-8 Forever? replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. And he'll take the job, which is more than any rock star NFL name will do, since whoever takes the Bills job knows they get fired as soon as Ralph dies and new ownership takes over. I mean that could happen, like, next year for crying out loud. Think, people. Whoever takes the Bills gig is instantly a dead man walking. -

That's all they'll get. That was the argument for keeping Gailey. This franchise is widely regarded as where careers go to die. -

Looking at the 2013 Opponents and Schedule.......
8-8 Forever? replied to billsfan714's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who knows? We thought Seattle was winnable this year and that the Colts, Skins would stink. You get the right guy at QB and some leadership on your team, and things turn around pretty quickly. Everyone runs pretty much the same plays and plays one of three defensive schemes.. it all comes down to the quality of the players. Bills don't have any leadership on the field. I hated Whitner as a player , but he was a leader defensively.. no one like that exists on either side of the ball. that is a big problem. I live in the DC area, and Santana Moss and other vets are lining up and kissing the ring of a 22 year old kid rookie, because he has "it". -
And that will probably happen. Not many good QBs in the NFL. We see them all the time because the networks only feature the good teams/QBs. But Stafford, Kolb, Sanchez and the rest are pretty average , basically Fitz clones.. good but not good enough. Sam Bradford did not wow anyone in the Bills game either. Tough business, the NFL QB thing.

Potential Update on Coaching?
8-8 Forever? replied to TheZone78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assuming 7 or 8 jobs will come open, all the good coaching prospects will go to the better organizations and we will be left with the Gaileys of the world... so lets just keep him, draft a damn QB (the draft fortunately does not discriminate between franchises, or we'd be completely dead) and go from there. until the ownership settles down after Ralph's demise, no top coach is coming here with other more stable situations available. so hang on to the Gailey we know, rather than the Gailey we don't know. the next Gailey may not only not game manage very well, he may not be an effective Xs and Os guy at this level. not sure its possible , but thats a bigger disaster than we have now. -
If they blow it up again, coach and GM, you have to believe Fitz will be asked to renegotiate his contract otherwise be released. Ralph should not have to pay him when TJ is on the roster and has starter experience and would be about the same as Fitz learning a brand new offense.
