Changing coach not the right thing to do, so says Wilson
LGB replied to Talonz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills lease in Orchard Park will be up soon. That should make things interesting if the Bills decide to stay, but it will probably be based on taxpayer funded improvements. What, there aren’t any other teams that are in the same boat as the Bills? Why wait until the end of the year after the Redskins, Cowboys and other teams grab the best talent available? The sooner the house is cleaned the better. -
Do you blame Edwards for being shell-shocked?
LGB replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All we heard for the last couple of years was we needed a another WR to take the heat off Evans. When Hardy did not look like the answer, Owens was signed. Now, both multi-million dollar WRs have been missing. Evans used to be able to get more open without TO on the other side. So all that money spent at WR is a waste if there is no OL or QB. -
Jim Haslet might be an option, but no way on the others...haven't we had enough marketing gimmicks?

So far, during the Jauron regime, selling tickets is the only thing that the front office has been proven to be good at, but it is time to wake up fans. If some fans want to be marketing sheep for slaughter, than fine, but there is another way. Before fans shell out money on next year’s tickets, why not know there is some attempt at a commitment to winning at OBD? Why not hire a football GM instead of a marketing GM and win some games? Put a quality football organization together from top to bottom before the team goes up for auction and everything will take care of itself. Win games and sell tickets. The more games that are won, the more tickets will be sold and the more the team will be worth. Also, if we all agree to just say "No" to this regime and a change in the organization has to happen, it might as well happen now - before all the other teams that really do have a commitment to winning to ticket holders grab the available talent. Sure, there are no guarantees that the next GM and coach will win the Super bowl, but why not put both a proven GM and coach in place with a winning track record? Face it, the product on the field has not been any good for a long time. How much lower does this regime have to take us for there to be any action?

The Bills have a decent chance of getting a proven coach

This makes the most sense. -

Big Ben and Aaron Rogers have proven that even with OL injuries, the ball can come out quick and on target. I know, all we need is another good WR like Owens to open up Evans - right? How many millions of dollars do we have tied up at the WR position? -

As bad as Edwards was in the wind, Derek Anderson was 2 for 17 for 23 yards. Tough day for the Bills. -
If RW is any kind of business man, DJ's contract is probably contingent on the team reaching above .500 in 2009 and if it isn't, he only has himself to blame if he has to pay millions of dollars to Dick when he is fired.

Going through his reads too fast sounds like he might be in a hurry and I agree that it could be any of number of things like bad coaching, not enough time or being pounded in the ground and being shell-shocked. I am not sure TE is in the same class as Big Ben or Aaron Rodgers as far as vision, decision making and arm strength. Have we seen some glimmer of those QB traits from TE? yes, and maybe that is why maybe the Bills would like to see him try and work it out before Fitzpatrick is put in. -
Well you have a good point...if the owner and organization think 7-9 is acceptable, then it might be possible that kind of mentality could be rubbing off on some players and maybe this year we end up 1-15.
-
Should Bills fans be happy with 7-9? That is the question it seems because so far we have demonstrated at the box office that 7-9 or a below average team for 10 years is better than no team. Speaking of bad teams, how about the Chiefs? Is Larry Johnson just used up with no gas left in the tank or what?
-
Guys getting paid millions of dollars quit? Not sure, but any video of them "quitting" might not go over too well with the new coach or any other team in the future.

Suppose he could do worse, but how many picks worse before Fitzpatrick gets a chance to keep us somewhat afloat in the standings? -
It will be interesting to see what happens Sunday if the Browns carve up the Bills. Fans wanted Takeo Spikes and voiced their opinion when he was on the Bengals and OBD listened. Seems like the fans are restless again.

Cheering against the Bills is where I draw the line. There is no way I cheer for the Bill's opponent. The only time I came close to thinking about that was not really cheering for the other team, but that the Bill's would get a higher draft pick and maybe just happen to lose a game or two late in the season when it did not matter. Sure we could do better at HC, but not if it means just another set of seasons in a long line of rebuilding projects with a coach no better than DJ.

If Rush was buying our Bills instead of the Rams...
LGB replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most people either like or hate Rush, but he must be loaded enough to buy an NFL team. There are many other people or groups that could come up with that kind of money like Tom Golisano or Danny Wegman and I don't think most Bills fans would care as long as: 1) The Bills stayed in WNY. 2) There was a quality product on the field. 3) Tickets did not skyrocket. -

Edwards has plenty of targets but not enough time. Most of that is his own fault for not being faster on quick throws, but it is not like AVP can't see what is going on. -
I have never seen the fans this low!
LGB replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How low have fans been? You mean like passed out in the parking lot? Yeah, fans are low and nobody wants to know what it is like to be a Lion's fan... -

If that is all he has to do, then we could have kept Kelly Holcomb. He was good at getting the ball out quick. Why not plug Fitzpatrick in there and see if he can do any better? Not sure if he can do too much worse.... -
Marty Schottenheimer is a somewhat interesting name. Not sure if he is a great game-day coach. He was fired by the Chargers in 2007, after a 14–2 record and a disappointing second round loss after a first round bye in the playoffs. What Bill's fans wouldn't do right now for a 14–2 record?

Edwards is probably only one or two more Pat LaFontaine hits away from concussion problems given the number of hits he has taken behind the least experienced NFL offensive line. That is, if he hasn’t already been having issues. Trent Edwards has been behind a sub-par line all through college and with the Bills. If you were QB of the Bills, would you want to have this collection of rookies and bench-sitters protecting you from 270 pound bull-rushing defensive ends and all-out blitzing safeties? Is it any wonder the guy is shell-shocked to the point where the first instinct is to bail-out? The OL is everything on offense and besides Edwards having issues, it will be tough to run the ball with a rookie OL. Would anyone be really surprised with a one-win season with the mess we have right now?

What type of head coach will Ralph hire next?
LGB replied to MURTR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
right, Regier for GM? no thanks... -
If you are going to do something, give it your best shot. If the Bills fire DJ, Cowher, Gruden, Dungy, Holgrem and Shanahan seem to be the best replacements. But why would anyone of these proven football talents want to come to WNY and work for Russ Brandon? The only way this might happen is if RW handed them the keys to the kingdom and placed them in charge of all football operations. But there is one problem with that. They would still have to work for RW and being GM and HC is different than only concentrating on HC. Cowher, Gruden and Dungy all have plush broadcasting jobs. Holgrem and Shanahan have been spending time with their families. The other concern is: will RW step up to the plate after the Tom Donahoe experiment and pony up for proven GM talent? The more likely scenario: the team goes up for auction and a new era begins – but quite possibly not in Orchard Park. The new owner would likely want a new taxpayer subsidized stadium and it could be hard, if not Impossible for economically depressed Buffalo – even if we give it our best shot.

...as long as the Bills have a SB championship in WNY before the moving vans arrive.
-
!) The Bills continue their bumbling ways to another losing record and start 2010 with a new coach, but same GM/FO? 2) The Bills clean house and RW gives control of the Bills to REAL football personnel? 3) The Bills are put up for auction and move out of sight (not out of mind for some)? 4) Jim Kelly has enough deep-pocketed friends to move the team to a new stadium closer to Niagara Falls and a new era begins?
