Stadium group in L.A. targeting Jags, Bills
LGB replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have not had a problem selling tickets yet, but the stadium lease is up soon and the Bills will likely be looking at taxpayers to help upgrade the stadium. Moving games to Canada was done for a reason. It is all about the math - so three things appear to be on the horizon with the stadium lease being number one, the Toronto agreement expires and then there has been no provision that I know of to keep the Bills in WNY in the event something happens to our 91 yr old owner. Regarding the Jags, there was some talk about them moving to Orlando to become the Disney Jags. -
If Lynch can stay focused, he and Jackson can be a great combo. Maybe not in the same class as Peterson and Chester Taylor or Johnson and Lendale White, but you get the idea...

Stadium group in L.A. targeting Jags, Bills
LGB replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It appears that the company behind a plan to lure the NFL back to Los Angeles said Tuesday the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills are the first teams it will try to relocate“Jacksonville and Buffalo are two teams in very, very small markets, he said. “They are teams that have either outdated stadiums or are having trouble filling their stadiums or both.” Yes, the Bills stadium is out-dated by NFL standards. The power going out during a home game didn't help the case that the stadium has anything state-of-the-art, like a redundant power supply and the stadium lease is up soon, but move to LA? -
What about John Guy, who has been Bills pro personnel director since Donahoe brought him here in 2001 and his fellow vice president, Tom Modrak? Were they part of the recent house-cleaning? Not sure how you can draft Whitners and Maybins and not get booted along with the rest of the staff?
-
Dan Snyder is good at spending money, but that hasn't exactly translated into results on the field.
-
Sure the Bills are one of the worst teams against the run, but if Schobel retires and Maybin remains invisible, where is the pass rush? Presumably the Bills will want to be competitive and not spend all in one area? Brandon will need to sign another ticket selling marquee player like TO. Maybe take a chance on Brandon Marshall? Which is more important? 1. DL 2. OL 3. QB 4. ticket selling marquee player like TO

Sorry, but I'm not buying that. The fact that you are a good coach (presumably too good to let go) and you have shown dedication, worked hard and got the job done, should be enough for the Bills to at least interview April as head coach also. Marv always said that there are three parts to winning football; defense, special teams and offense. That fact that April has proven that he has what it takes to be successful in an otherwise suspect organization has me thinking that the "then there were three" group or the trio that are the complete brain-trust for the Bills now, screwed up here. This sends the wrong message to players who played hurt (went the extra mile) and/or really contributed.
-
Maybe this will make sense today, but I doubt it. Every coach had to be fired? Why such a fire-sale? That is sending the wrong message to quality people like Bobby April.
-
This is exactly the point; why wait until now to pull the plug on the coaching staff? Why didn't RB and RW get rid of Jauron after the the collapse last year? They should have fired him after going winless in the division. Why fire Bobby April? This looks like a long term project...one that might out-live RW and the Bills existence in WNY.
-
91 yr old Ralph Wilson, proclaimed marketing guy Russ Brandon and retired scout Buddy Nix who just fired the entire staff. If you were a potential coaching hire, would you want to walk into this enormous fire-rebuilding task with these three holding the reins? Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that one projected savior on this board - Bill Cowher is not interested. Other reports are flying around like lake-effect snow. But really when you think about it, who is out there that can build the scorched remains into a playoff-bound football team from the ground up before the moving vans arrive at OBD? How is this team any different than a new expansion team right now - with even less to work with? Hard to billieve that we went from just needing a taller WR to take the heat off Lee Evans a year ago- to now a total and complete clean the decks and rebuild.
-
I agree that the next Bills Savior title seems pretty big right now, but it would be nice to have someone experienced getting a NFL team to the playoffs - so at least they have a whiff of an idea on what it takes to get there. cheers
-
it says rebuffed so far at the top of this thread...lol. Anyway, here is another Cowher report for what it is worth: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...t-another-year/
-
dunno, the article sites three sources about Billick, so maybe Jason Cole knows what "rebuffed" means and has something behind his report? Anyway, if Cowher didn't interview, what about the reports that the Bills already met with Cowher? Oh right, they must have talked about the weather...just saying...
-
presumably the Bills met with Cowher prior to Jan. 2nd and hence were "rebuffed"
-
Yes, new GM Buddy Nix will interview interim coach Perry Fewell on Monday, as well as meet with other Buffalo assistant coaches. But Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Bills have already approached Shanahan, Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher about the coaching job and have been rebuffed so far. With Mike Holmgren, already hired in Cleveland, and Mike Shanahan expected to be hired in Washington, the list of known candidates yet to interview with the Bills appear to be down to: Brian Billick, Perry Fewell, Brian Schottenheimer and Ron Rivera (with the last two currently in the NFL playoffs).

I wonder if the NFL Network will ever be available on time-warner cable? And the great thing about a scroll-wheel mouse is that you can blaze right past comments you don't want to read.

Maybe Grimm would be able to fix the O-line problems...

Most of the big names seem to be long-shots to come to small-market Buffalo, but it seems to me that the biggest thing the Bills have been lacking is a good game-day coach. DJ seemed to get a lot out of his players (they seemed to play up to their ability for him), but the ability to game-plan the opponent and adjust that plan as the game unfolds is what made DJ a below average coach. So who from the available candidates is good at thinking on their feet? Probably the coaches that have been successful in the playoffs - which could be long-shots to sign here unless RW shows them the money.
-
The Bills are an entertainment that you can choose to attend and spend $$$thousands of $$$ - or not...no different than going to the theater to see a play or movie. Sure the Bills performances could have been better, but have obviously been good enough to sell out RW's tax-payer-subsidized stadium and make him a profit from the $$$thousands of $$$ that attendees have spent.
-
Wasn't that a home game? I thought it was against the Pats?...you could almost hear his leg break...
-
Patience? What is that?...oh, like waiting over 10 years for a whiff of the playoffs? It is because we have McCargo (bust) and Maybin (reach) that we are still waiting for 10 years...

Yahoo Sports has us going with a CB with the #10 pick

Can he be Owner, GM, scout players and in a pinch, coach and also play QB?!? -
Bills to get QB Edwards back after Week 9 bye...
LGB replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Concussions are nothing to fool around with..just ask Pat LaFontaine. Behind this OL, Edwards has a good chance of getting hurt where he might never play again - or worse. Is it really worth it? Why aren't more fans angry with how the Bills handled the OL this year? TE is not going to be an effective QB with this OL. Who could without getting pulverized? -
okay, so Trent Edwards looks to be coming back to active status, but why should he start? Does it really matter if he starts? The Bills gained their first set of downs in garbage time yesterday. Yep, that's right...the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL might have done better.
