How many 1st and 2nd round picks can you have not starting?
LGB replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It might be good to have a rookie salary cap to lessen some of the guaranteed money on these unproven picks at the pro level? -
Some fans wanted a LT instead of another RB, but Spiller should bring some excitement as should Steve Johnson. From training camp, it looks like the new staff is on track to get the best players on the field (not just based on their draft selection).

Whitner has never played in more than 15 games in a season and has not started every game: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=9594 Police used a Taser to subdue Whitner, who was arrested for aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest (Whitner was also arrested in 2006 for harassment of his live-in girlfriend): http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4061171 Whitner is about the same size as Roscoe Parrish: Whitner is listed at 5' 10" - Roscoe is listed at 5' 9", but they are only close in height, not playing weight. Whitner is only an average pass defender: What do you see in his stats that is above average for a pass defender? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=9594 Again I hope every player that suits up for the Bills does well (including DW) - so we will have to see if he can stay healthy and this staff can get more out of him.
-
Whitner is an average 2nd or 3rd rd player that was taken 8th overall. Yep, he did not select himself, but it will be interesting to see if he starts/sits or is hurt again this year. I do not think he has ever played 16 games in his four seasons and only has 4 ints during that time...
-
Whitner must be the most talked about player now that JP and Jason Peters are gone. He is about the same size as Roscoe Parrish and is not a very good pass defender. I get that he is a fan favorite - even after his issues with the law, but he has not been durable and is only average at best. That is the problem with the Bills - the current staff has to deal with the bad high pick investments the previous staffs have made (like McCargo & Whitner etc).
-
well if they are not running it, they had better learn to defend it...

us mere mortals will likely only dream of making millions of dollars for something that we love to do, but in all honesty, whatever dollar amount someone makes is not too much if there is someone willing to pay it.

LGB replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
given what we know now, Whitner would have made a good second or third round pick. Evans disappeared after the $19 million dollars. I have a question though: given what we know now, who is the best player beside Moorman and Byrd on the team that might make the pro bowl? Is there anyone? Spiller? -

It can never be good when you have to compare your team to the bottom of the barrel...okay, they haven't been the worst at drafting - only close to the worst...or in the top 10 of the worst. Yippee - yahoo! -

Whitner - (selected 8th overall) if he does not start... -

Exactly, and is why the Bills have not had a whiff of the playoffs in 10 years. -
PFT: Trent had his best practice dispite a wet ball

It can never be a good thing when our starting QB has to be rated above the very bottom of the barrel.... -
So, it's still early but Gailey, we like him, right?
LGB replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, it is early, but so far it seems like an improvement over DJ. -
I hope DW has a great year and according to the OP is "rejuvinated" (like he needed to be rejuvenated in order to play good football - right?) because in his four years with the Bills it would be nice if he added to his 2 forced fumbles or 4 INTs and became an impact player that you would like to see out of your first round selection (8th overall).

I can see why people are quick to bury Maybin
LGB replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are a Bill's fan, you want to see every player on the roster do well. Yes, some players take longer to develop than others making the move to the pros. We the fans have shown that we will stick with the Bills through thick and thin...just look at the support in the last 10 years. The Bills have been in the top ten in ticket sales for most if not all of the last ten years. The fans have done their part. The Marketing Dept has done their part (probably best in the league for what they have had to work with). Billeive it or not, now it is time for the scouts, coaches, trainers and players to do their part. From the OP, people are at the point where they are quick to bury any player who does not contribute...and if you were selected in the first round, you get the bigger guaranteed money - because you are expected to contribute to make the team better in your first year. As for Maybin, he was taken 11th overall in the draft and highly touted as a speed guy who could get to the QB. Okay, but there is just one problem with that. He never contributed like you would like to see your 11th overall player perform and never touched an opposing QB. He might be a great person. He sounds like a great person and great persons are great to have on your team, but if he can't play football and get to an opposing QB, what the hell is he doing on the team? Fans have watched this play out before with the Bills and is why there is a short lease on 1st rd players. Whitner, JP, McCargo, TE, Mike Williams, Eric Flowers were all high level picks expected to contribute. Since players don't get to decide where they are selected the scouts and OBD deserve some criticism as well. I get that not every pick will perform the way you would like, but IMO, the Bills would have seen a whiff of the playoffs in the last ten years if some of their top picks performed better than they have so far... -
Not sure, but with the current staff being as decisive as they were with Schobel and the no-nonsense attitude displayed in camp, Whitner being cut or traded for a practice squad player should not be a surprise. New coaching staffs like to install their own players - so watch out on cut down day.

Easley's condition might be season ending

If it was easy, everyone would be a Bills fan. -
DW is a dollar short and a day late - and come cut down day that it would not be a surprise if little Donte is gone.

Bill Walsh had confidence in Trent Edwards
LGB replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This year will be all about running the ball while the defense learns the 3/4. The Bill's starting QB in 2010, whoever that is, will not be asked to win too many games and the Bills will likely draft Jake Locker next year. -
why I am not so worried about LT situation
LGB replied to PJBrown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is a team game and it is all about the wins. Sure someone might step up and prove to be a good LT. How many people are ready to go to Vegas and bet the house that the Bills make the playoffs with who they have right now and all the changes that they have experienced this year. The odds are not great. -

What are the odds that players that don’t ever produce in the first year (after being selected in the first round) ever produce at the level to which they were given first round money/expected to contribute? Yes, all teams have top picks that do not pan out, but at some point these picks have to contribute or should be cut and left reaching for another twinkie like Mike Williams, Eric Flowers and John McCargo. -

Once the red training camp QB shirts come off, it will be Fitz again. -

Rodgers held the ball while his receivers got down field - because he actually threw it more than ten yards. -

I'll be Maybin's biggest fan if he gets on the field and makes the team better by actually getting to the opposing QB and justifies some of his 11th overall money in the bank...or is that too high of a standard? He doesn't even have to contribute to the same level as McKelvin & Lynch - who the Bills took at the same draft spot in 2008 & 2007 (Lynch was taken at 12). -

TE is one Pat LaFontaine hit away from reaching an injury settlement with the Bills and is why the Bills will carry four QBs this year (one on the practice squad).
