Jason Lacanfora just reported Bills and Spiller not close
spartacus replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah- that blitz pickup thing is really overrated good thing the Bills have expendable QBs, because if they valued their QBs at all, Spiller would not see the field until he proved he could recognize and pickup blitzers a skill that defintely needs time in camp to perfect -
this is laughable Since the Bills total contracts for all of their QBs is less than what a good starter makes in one year, they are more than capable of spending a few extra dollars to sign their draft picks before camp starts so the product on the field does not suffer. not to mention the Bills have no debt service on the team or the stadium, arguing that cash flow is the reason that they can't sign Spiller is pure crap.

[closed]"give back some of that money"
spartacus replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
now they can stand there after getting abused, but be mad about it good plan -
nice try but enough slotting has been done to easily get a deal done the Bills under Overdorf have always pinched the last penny out of their draft picks - at the cost of productivity on the field. you can't even remember the last time the Bills have all of the picks signed before camp started. money trumps all at OBD
-
you catch on quick the Bills camps for the last 10 years have been cupcake driven- just as you observed most successful contending teams, however, practice a bit harder
-
the Club Med philosophy employed at Fischer is why the team has played soft and sucked for 10 years
-
as long as that scheme does not intend to throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field sounds like it fits Trent to a T
-
This is true Ross Tucker is bitter at the big money he never got. what he glosses over is that weaker linemen have blocking schemes designed to cover up their shortcomings with help from other OL and backs and TEs. Elite players do not get such help and are left on an island to perform their assignments so the help can go elsewhere. As noted, mistakes by any lineman screw up the play - which is why the Bills have been at the bottom of the league in 3rd down conversions. Blown execution when it counts.
-
for teh Bills, that answer is obvious. For the past 15 years, the Bills have been totally inept at scouting and identifying OL talent. even when they spent the 4th pick, they butchered the pick by taking the fat, unmotivated RT over the stud LT. other than references to Linda Bogdan being the head OL scout, who is responsible for scouting the OL?

Benefit of the doubt for Nix / Gailey
spartacus replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gailey would have been a good hire as the OC- under a real HC> Pretty ironic that a team without a OC in 2009 did not think Gailey was good enough to replace Turk at the last minute - but now he's a genius. Tough to be a genius when you don't think you need OTs to run an offense. -

". . .3-4 year plan, and that Spiller fits into that long range plan." and there in lies the problem. RBs have a 4 year average shelf life -so when this 4 year plan finally comes to fruition, Spiller will be toast. Better plan would be get the pieces to fix the OL -players who typically play 10+ years - so in 4 years the OL is a dominant force, not still a work in progress with gaping holes at the tackles and no depth on the interior. but the current plan of ignoring the OL has worked so well for the last 15 years, why change now -
should look the same as the last 15 years
-
the overriding conclusion is that teams that commit to improving their defense by adding talent show a marked improvement in play - although the improvement may be in a 3-4 formation instead of a 4-3. Their defensive stats would have improved in their old 4-3 as well since they finally added talent to improve the performance on the field.
-
Seeing he coached at an engineering school, I would guess that the collective intelligence of that team far surpass what he has to deal with on the Bills - and that's after having the Bills team IQ skewed by the QBs Lynch is in a class by himself which is why they are looking to move him
-
our LT production will be consistently bad all year whether it will be penalties or glorious look-out blocks, there will be no position on the team with more consistent problems

Couple thoughts on qb Fitz
spartacus replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gailey will pass more than run if this is such a rebuilding year, they should be building an offense for the future. running a plodding run oriented offense is just more Dick ball - and will serve to keep games close - but will do nothing to build a future contender - where passing the ball is critical to scoring points -
Couple thoughts on qb Fitz

if Gaileys is this offensive genius that everyone claims, then he will be installing a pass first offense, spreading the field vertically and horizontally. The current NFL rules highly favor passing the ball and contending teams need to be doing the same. Spiller and Parrish have the ability to provide big plays playing out of space. Trying to pound the ball is the worst use of the talent on the Bills. The QB that can effectively use the entire field (quickly) will be the starter -
you are correct. James should have stayed in Cleveland and toiled under an owner unable to assemble a championship team- although he did fire his coach and GM in a knee jerk move. Lebron should have taken the high road and continually failed to win a title because, although good, he can't outplay 5 guys by himself. After 12 years of frustration, the media could then castigate him for not winning any titles. and then he could pimp himself out somewhere like Karl Malone did to try to win a title in a desperation move. Seems like a way better option to move to a situation where he will enjoy playing with his buddies and have a chance at those elusive titles.

What if Chan works his magic...
spartacus replied to SpecialK15's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you do realize that all of those 3-4 defenses in our division are designed to take away the outside? it was first used heavily as a defense to control OJ Simpson. -

spartacus replied to SpecialK15's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"pronnouce him some magical wizard like coach." who else but a wizard could make himself disappear from NFL relevance for a decade? -
sure - the head of college scouting has no input into the draft process OK- I see how that makes in Bills fantasy land where no one has accountability for their actions,- but no where else in the real world is that tolerated maybe that's why Modrak is happy with his work from home part time gig for the Bills
-
yeah - I agree good thing the Bills cut loose Modrak and his bank of misfit scouts and the rest of the front office that has been intact for the last decade.
-
Since fans agree that its such a great idea to build through the draft, your analysis should also include the production from the that 3rd round pick that we foolishly gave away to move up to get POZ instead of staying put and drafting Harris or Woodley.

Some Old 'Gailey' articles to read
spartacus replied to BillsFanInLV's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hard to believe that a team that is well run as the Steelers did not fall down rushing to make Gailey (one of tis own) its head coach after Bill Cowher personally recommended they he take over. Probably a good thing that Whaley, with his insider Steeler knowledge, was hired after they hired Gailey as the HC, or Chan still might be unemployed
