His statement moved him up to the #1 slot. You better start to worry how many picks Buddy will be giving away to take Cam away from Carolina.

Jay Rockefeller asks NFL to open their books
spartacus replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the point was how did the players ever manage to agree to 59% in the last round of negotiations without seeing the books. -
Dareus at 12? Cam Newton at 15?? sort of destroys whatever credibility you think you may have at this site

Gailey says while OT is not a crying need......
spartacus replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have plenty of "bodies" what they need are blue chip playmakers- at whatever position they can find them there is a higher likelihood of finding such playmaker the higher they pick however, with the crackerjack geriactic talent evaluators the Bills have, it may be more important to make sure their selction will not be past their bedtime since the first 2 rounds will star t late afternoon. -
this is probably true - but only because he will go #1

Can Kyle Williams play DE in a 3-4?
spartacus replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Williams "success" has translated into the the worst run defense in the league maybe the Bills should hire some defensive coaches that actually know how to run the 3-4 to take advantage of his skills -
I guess supporting the Maybin pick 2 years ago changed Buddy's philosophy on drafting one hit wonders too bad he had not adopted that philosophy back in 2009

If this is to be believed ...
spartacus replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
your conclusion is not correct Being a defensive coach, Rivera probably has a strong belief that he will be able to improve the defense with his coaching and direction. Since he may feel he can improve the defense without adding players, he has the luxury of obtaining a franchise QB at #1, especially since his other option at QB is Clausen A top defensive player would surely help, but a franchise QB would help infinitely more - and for a longer time -
sounds good to me I am entertained when my team scores a lot and wins not so much when they are painful to watch on a weekly basis and lose a lot sounds good to Ralph too - since people buy tickets to be entertained

entire article is complete speculation

how can you be wrong with Buddy's "it wasn't me" comments 1 year later as the lynch pin of your argument I bow to the circularness of your thinking

The Bills' True Role in Free Agency
spartacus replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo as a bargaining chip is a really weak argument. Which team out there actually believes the Bills would make a real offer to any good player they wanted? -
after their great success with Cornell Green and other impact players this past year, the Bills probably will avoid all free agent signings for a while much easier to draft guys and blame the Mystery Man for the selection when they bust
-
very good summary !! Your point 1 would be true - if Buddy came out with that comment immediately after the draft and not 1 year later when it was clear Maybin was a turd and Jauron had been fired as the scapegoat. Relying on retroactive self-serving statements that fly in the face of the facts is not really a winning argument

What sticks in my craw are how blind homers continually justify the craptacular performance of the Bills drafts over the last 15 years 1. the Bills are a team in total dysfunction when it comes to the draft. They finally do the smart thing and bring in a Buddy who they think is qualified enough to be their national scout and confidante. yet they don't consult him on their first round pick of a player who is a one year wonder yeah- that sounds believable - not even for the clown show at OBD who brought Buddy in special for the draft 2. just because Ralph likes 70 year old retired guys to run things does not mean AJ Smith let Nix or anyone else make the selections in San Diego. Buddy could have been a scout in SD and treated as the guru Ralph remembered from 15 years ago.

It was also idiotic to cut Walker when they did, again with no replacement or backup plan on the roster. As bad as people ragged on him, he is still the best thing the Bills have put on the right side in the last 5 years. They had already blown the big bucks on him - but everyone but the brain trust knew he would bust at LT
-
no way to know where any other NFL front office had him rated, since the Bills did not give anyone a chance to challenge their assessment. -same with Maybin, would have the same for POZ- if Lynch was gone and Marv had pulled the trigger on POZ in the 1st round. same with Lynch, McCargo, etc exactly what talent did Spiller exhibit in real NFL games that so convinces you he is a stud RB to justify the 8th pick in the draft? sure did not produce like that 3rd round phenom Arian Foster, or the basically undrafted LaGarret Blount

Since the average life of an NFL player is less than 4 years, 25% of his career is over with a big fat goose-egg to show for it. In Buddy we trust

- "when trying to build from the ground up, you can't fix every problem over night" Which is the point Both Scott and Incognito were restricted free agents whom the Bills had contractual control over. why create more holes when you don't have to They should have kept both until it was proven on the field that their replacements were better. Finding Urbick on the street mid-way thru the season highlights the fact that the Bills did nothing to replace either on the roster with upgrades to enter the season. Whoever at OBD that thought Cornell Green was an upgrade should have been fired long ago.

Spiller's ineptness points to the heart of the problem with Bills talent evaluators The big hype regarding Spiller before the draft was that he had over a 3.5 GPA so he would not be a learning liability and could prodcue quickly But obviously the Bills scouts did little more research on Spiller than reading about his GPA in Kiper's magazine to ascertain his intelligence and ability to transition to the NFL. This was the 8th pick in the draft and a player who the Bills have admiited was at the top of their board - yet they did nothing to vet the player to determine his ability to play in the NFL. HIs performance and inability to even grasp the play calls is mind boggling. What kind of detail are they doing on players farther down the board? and this was after Buddy revamped the scouts and applied his "expertise" Can't wait to see what they do with the 3rd pick overall

The best way to fix the defense is to hire a top notch defensive coaching staff to replace the inept toads they had last year. That would mean running a defense that was designed to be aggressive all over the field, playing press coverage and bringing pressure - whether it be 3-4 or 4-3. Whatever the choice, the most important point is to hire a stellar coaching staff expert in implementing and running that defense. yet the Bills keep the inept DC from last year. Their idea to upgrade is to bring in a seemingly good defensive consultant - but one who has zero experience with the intricacies of the 3-4 - including the blitz packages, game planning and play calling. The Bills need an identity of both sides of the ball - and then need to find the best and brightest to implement it. Newton will do far more for the offense than any top flight defensive staff could do for the defense./

well we do know that the Magnificient Modrak will proclaim after the season that he wanted the rookie of the year but was overuled in the draft room by the Mystery Man what more info do you need?
-
not sure why the hate on Newton Mike Leach would be drooling all over him Hew couldn't lock his own QB in an equipment shed fast enough to get Cam on the field
-
you are correct as it pertains to the lower rounds of the draft I am specifically addressing that the top 10 of the draft is not going to change for good teams based on the combine. Obviously, Cam Newton and the other juniors that will go in the top 10 were not at the Senior Bowl. The Bills should have been scouting these top players non-stop already since that 0-8 start pretty much narrowed down where they would draft and who their targets would be. Interviews, coach interviews, talks with other players about character - all done low profile as the player's season was unfolding. There should be very little to be added from watching thse top players run around in their underwear at the combine (if they even work out) and provide scripted answers at the interviews The Bills draft history shows the Bills have blown it big time in finding "football" players and avoiding the character and motivation issues that have typically caused underperformance. Lack of quality scouting is more likely the source of the problems and not that some unnamed mystery man at OBD wrote the wrong name on the draft card every year.

Only the Bills would wait until the combine to check out the top 10 players in the draft Real NFL talent evaluators have had their scouts out in the field watching and tallking first hand to the top prospects. It's not like a big surprise that the Bills would be picking in the top 5. but hey- if the Magnificient Modrak only has to leave Florida once for the combine, then he has more time for retirement.
