Vikings willing to trade 3rd pick
spartacus replied to BillsInMaine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cleveland will not take Tannehill at #4, let alone trade up to #3 for him. they want Barkley and will wait it out Tannehill won't beat out McCoy this year anyway because he is too green Highly doubtful the Dolphins give away picks for Tannehill either they take him at #8 or ride Matt Moore for another year-Dolphins need a #1 WR now that they created that hole by shipping out Marshall -
Picks 7 through 10 a crap shoot just look at 2006-2011
spartacus replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
good teams find good players everywhere in the draft Green Bay took Jordy Nelson - the bills took James Hardy Ravens found Ed Reed and Ray Lewis at the end of round 1 Bills took Troup and the Pats took Gronkowski It's all about talent evaluation and the plan to build a contender The bills have focused on small permimater players (DBs, RBs, WRs) for a decade and have been pushed around for the same time frame They have not had a plan and have been even worse in identifying talent -
Discussing Chris Hairston for a minute
spartacus replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what about Glenn Parker- 3rd 1990, John Fina-1st 1992 and the key free agent signings of Kent Hull and John Davis Polian did not need to draft OTs in Ondy since the Colts used 1st and 2nd picks in 1997 to get their bookend OTs We will see if Buddy has enough juice to draft a LT at #10. my guess is they pick the WR and claim Hairston is a LT stud in disguise -
if the above poster is correct and Wanny will play mostly zone, then McKelvin will not be very productive since he does not possess the savvy or smarts to play zone he has press cover skills which will be wasted put him on the slot guy and utilize his skills

Discussing Chris Hairston for a minute
spartacus replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fat Mike was a RIGHT T and proved conclusively that he could not play LT. He was a RT when they drafted him and the closest he got to LT was playing RG but you are correct that they needed a LT yet passed on a true LT in McKinnie in favor of a RT- the vindicativeness of Ralph is strong When he was with the Bills before his altercation with Ralph's daughter, Polian aggressively drafted and built a quality OL The Bills not so effectively since he left -
Discussing Chris Hairston for a minute
spartacus replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As bad as the bills need a LT, my guess is that as long as Ralph is alive, the Bills will not draft a LT in the first round They haven't done it since he banished Polian over his disagreement with his daughter about a LT - they won't start now if Ralph is anywhere near the draft room -
A Modern Day Case Against First Round Corners
spartacus replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the bigger problem with the Bills infatuation with 1st round DBs is they wasted the skills acquired. they insisted on using premium picks to acquire press coverage skills and then wasted those skills by playing soft zones with the DB in a different zip code from the WR. IN fact, the CBs had trouble adjusting to zone coverage and turned out to be underperformers in the Bills defense. pass rushers and pass blockers would have been the better route to go - or a t a minimum coordiante the defensive scheme with the desired skillsets -

spartacus replied to shoretalk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good teams find good players in the draft Bad teams are bad because they pick bad players in the draft (their talent evaluators blow - sound familiar) The original premise that 6-10 is a crap shoot is just supporting the premise that the crappy teams picking in those spots can't identify talent. Every year good front offices like the Ravens and Packers are finding impact players with their picks - even though the crappy teams picking ahead of them hogged all of the highly touted crappy players -

I don't understand all the LT being biggest need talk
spartacus replied to buffan031's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whether or not the top prospects are worth picking at 10 is debatable but you'd have to be blind to think LT is not a need for the Bills. Blind- or in charge of evaluating talent and building the roster for the Bills for the last 15 years. we wil see if things change this year because Ralph is basically senile, but my guess is that as long as Ralph lives, he will continue his pledge to not draft a LT in the first round. -

Demetrius Bell - Now an Eagle
spartacus replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
sounds like a really good plan bring back Bell and again ignore the LT position after being injured for most of every season in the NFL, what makes you think relying on this walking injury is a good idea. just so you can write his name down at LT so you can chase some more RBs -
All Peyton Manning, all the time!
spartacus replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Elway already got what he wanted, which is a way to get rid of Tebow and get a real franchise QB he can claim credit for developing however, that QB will not be Manning. I suspect that Manning will not play a down for the Broncos but will collect his $18 mil, just like he did last year Elway will tank the season just like the Colts did last year (Curtis Painter is even available) to get Matt Barkley -
Bills should wait for Martin to fall to the 2nd round that's as likely as him being there at #17

Nice quote from Wannstedt on the defense
spartacus replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The gators hired him to run a 4-3 defense The Bills hired him to convert to a 3-4 defense that he had never implemented or run before you are right - the real buffoon is Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix who thought it was a brilliant move to hire a 4-3 LB coach to convert to a 3-4 I stand corrected - the real buffoon is Chan Edwards just sucks as a 3-4 DC -
the problem is not backups the problem is lack of playmakers at most positions on the team

Nice quote from Wannstedt on the defense
spartacus replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i guess the Bills have not invested in that new invention - videotape and digital recording can't believe anyone with half a brain keeps buying into the excuse that Buddy, Chan and Wannstadt need a full year on the job to evaluate the talent before making decisions. Edwards sucked 2 years ago he should have been fired then - and replaced with a competent coach if Wanstadt wanted to steal his paycheck for a year without being responsible for anything- that is on Chan and Buddy too bottom line is the defense was an abortion in 2011 -with horrible coaching a big part of teh problem, -
Bills Defensive Line: The Double-Team Dilemma
spartacus replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you're underestimating the importance of competent LB play in any defense -
sure hope someone picks him before #10, because it's been a whole year since the Bills wasted another #1 on a RB Buddy won't be passing on a sure thing- like you say

The Offensive Line Doesn't Matter
spartacus replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At a minimum the Bills need an NFL caliber starting LT and a quality backup C/G due to the uncertainty about Wood -
Bills Defensive Line: The Double-Team Dilemma
spartacus replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
or Brady can throw short passes to Welker, the TEs and the backs unless the Bills vastly upgrade the LB corp pass rush alone won't stop anyone unless the rest of the defense upholds the coverage requiremements
