I always root for the Bills to win. And I was cheering loudly today. The only difference with me is that after the Bills are eliminated from the playoffs, I don't get upset when they lose. What I loved the most about this win is that the Broncos needed it to clinch the division, and they gained over 500 freakin' yards of offense, yet still lost to the Bills who had nothing to play for but pride. That's why they play the games....as Chris Berman says. As for your statement about Brandon & Jauron, I'd settle for just Dick being gone if Ralph & Brandon hire an experienced NFL head coach who knows what kind of team he wants.

I can understand Ralph, at 90, resenting the word "doddering". It means: feeble, senile. But Ralph opened himself up for ugly attacks like that when he came out of the Miami game in Toronto laughing and acting as if that pathetic loss was meaningless. Bad enough that was the first game up in Toronto, but his light hearted behavior after the game seemed.....somewhat feeble, to me too. Plus, that was the game Sully first asked Wilson about Jauron's contract, and Ralph answered glibly: "Dick and I will go out together." I think Sully's been pissed at Wilson since then. If Wilson doesn't want to be called feeble or senile, then he should act more sensible at his age when talking to harsh critics like Sullivan.

I'm not so sure Peters is not game ready. He missed the Pro Bowl last year due to injury and he really seems to be excited about it this year. Why should he allow a meaningless game against Denver in the c-c-c-c-cold weather possibly ruin his chances to play in his own personal "Super Bowl" in Hawaii? And since Peters is inactive, why on earth not let the rookie Bell play today against the Broncos? I thought teams were supposed to start evaluating talent when they are out of the playoffs? Demetrius Bell looked pretty good in the preseason for a 7th round draft pick, why not let him play these last two games?

So by that you mean that conservative head coach DJ stopped genius Fairchild from puting together creative game plans in Buffalo? That doesn't make sense to me. Didn't Colorado State grind out almost 300 yards on the ground against Frenso State yesterday? Can't get much more conservative then that. And wasn't it DJ this season that called up to Turk telling him to run that risky play action pass on second and five last week when all he needed was two first downs on the ground to win the game? Can't get more "creative" (or stupid) then that.

Listen to this garbage coming out of One Bills Drive about this season: Jabari Greer talking about Dick; "This man, he has been a true leader for us. I think our record doesn't indicate the type of team we are. The criticism is unfair. He has been a true leader and a true coach and one of the best we have had around here." Dick talking about his players; "...Its' all built on effort, and the effort that these guys give has always been tops."..."That's what we get every day from them in practice, that's what we get from then in the weight roon and that's what we get from them at our OTA's." Great. The coach doesn't think the players should take any blame, and the players don't think the coaches should take any blame. Wonderful. They are one big happy 6-8 loser family. And it's not that I want the players and coaches to "throw eachother under the bus" and point fingers. But can't at least one player or coach get pissed off about sucking just once all season long?? President and GM Parcells down in Miami has helped turn the Dolphins around from 1-15-0 to 9-5-0 in less the one freakin' year. He and his rookie head coach Sporano don't waste too much time heaping much praise on their players. And they don't shy away from callling them out when they screw up, on the sidelines or after the game. I know Wilson is cheap with coaches and got burned by Donahoe whey he turned the team over and blah blah blah. But sometimes money does buy happiness, such as making the fans happy by the Bills being 9-5-0 right now instead of the Jets, Dolphins or Pats!!

Do Nothing for one more year, then hire Holmgren
VJ91 replied to VJ91's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No you made a definitive statement. "He's going to the 49ers." That was your entire post, right? When you think about it, after I put some thought and a little humor into my post, your one-line statement in reply is really kind of insulting to me, isn't it? In any case, I did not mean to insult you, and I know it's a fantasy to think Wilson would reach out to Holmgren anyway, but at this point, nobody knows where Mike Holmgren is going to end up.........not even the 49ers. -

VJ91 replied to VJ91's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no idea what Holmgren is likely to do or not do. If it is so likely for these coaches to end up back where they started, then why isn't Parcells president of the Giants right now? Why didn't Matt Millen go to work for Al Davis? (Now that would have been a match made in heaven, eh?) Why didn't Dick Vermiel become GM for Philadelphia after he retired as coach of the Rams? Sure it's a pipe dream that Wilson would set aside his own ego and hire such a strong personality that actually yells at somebody when he's pissed off like Polian used to do. to run the whole show. But I was just sayin....wouldn't that be terrific? -

VJ91 replied to VJ91's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? I'll remember you posted this when he becomes President and GM of some other team, if he even comes out of retirement at all. I read that his wife Kathy is really in favor of him staying out of football completely, and he really loves that motorcycle of his. The 49ers is the easy prediction, almost as easy as saying it will be the Packers, or even the Seahawks with a year or two off. At the very least, the Bills should make this guy an offer, now or when he gets the work out he's ready. -
Fairchild is the head coach for the Rams. My guess is that he hired a real OC with a logical brain, who tells Fairchild to shut up when Steve wants his QB to throw a pass to the fullback in the flat on 3rd and inches on the goal line. OC's do have jobs in college football you know. And as for your last question, the answer is hell yes, the Bills have a lack of talent.

What's 10 straight years without playoffs when you've already made 9 straight?? If Wilson and Brandon were smart, they would call Mike Holmgren at 4:15 PM a week from today, on his cell phone as he's taking his final plane ride home back to Seattle, and offer him a contract to take over as President and GM of the Bills exactly one year from then. Nobody can keep contracts quiet better then the Bills, and Holmgren can accept verbally, then to go off and ride his hog and play with the kids for the next 12 months. Whatever happens with the Bills in 2009, it will be nothing more then a lame duck season, and when Holmgren comes in after its' over, he could hire his own coaches and scouts as he begins his career off the sidelines, just like Parcells is doing in Miami.

Cowher will be going to Cleveland....
VJ91 replied to bflobarry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know why Billick called those pass plays on 3rd and one. But I will say this about the guy: he won a Super Bowl with the Ravens about 8 years ago, and his starting QB for that game was Trent freakin' Dilfer. He wisely used a strong running game and the best defense in the NFL that season to blow out the Giants in a a laugher. He was also smart enough to have Marvin Lewis as his DC that season too. Before that, in the late 90's, his Vikings had the best offense in the NFL for a few years while he was their OC under Denny Green. Now that resume' beats the heck out of his stuggles his last couple of years in Baltimore. -

Patriots: (1) Logan Mankins, Giants: (0), first round draft picks. I never said every team had first or second round draft picks on their O-Lines. I said the Buffalo Bills have ignored their offensive line for years in the first two rounds, and since they obviously don't have the luck or talent evaluators that the Pats and Giants must have, they should draft their center in the first two rounds this season! -
You answered your own question: Because Hardy was the second round pick, and Johnson was drafted with one of their 7th rounders. In addition to that, the Bills' offensive coaches were gushing about how they would use Hardy and his height this season, especially in the red zone. Too bad our scouts never realized how hard it would be for Hardy to understand the playbook.

Great point. Roscoe seems to have perfect recall for his long punt returns and his great TD returns. Yet he thinks those amazingly stupid catches inside his own 10 yard line should be thrown out when the Pro Bowl balloting is done. How many drives did he kill this year forcing his offense to start with their butts against their own end zone instead of the 20 yard line?

Our "ProBowl" tackle said all that needs to be said.
VJ91 replied to jkx2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can argue that. I don't think Peters hates the fans at all. He just loves himself more. Besides, since the players and coaches did vote him as a starter for his second consecutive Pro Bowl, Ralph & Russ will have to fork out some huge dollars to keep him happy. Maybe thats one of the reasons his fellow players voted him in. They want to see him get yet another astronomical contract to keep the money moving on up. -
Chuck might have been po'd, but had he signed, Tom Cousineau would have been yet another first round draft choice bust for the Bills. And a year or two later, the Bills traded the rights to Cousineau to Cleveland for draft picks that I think one of which was used for Joe Cribbs. As for Cribbs, after giving the Bills two or three excellent "Thurman-type" seasons, he bolted for the stupid USFL. Had Cribbs stayed in Buffalo, there's no telling where he would have finished up on the all-time rushing and receiving team records. That kid was awesome.

The NFL would say; "We are sorry that we don't have one basic rule in place that mandates any official with a whistle dangling around his neck must keep the damn thing out of his mouth until every single play runs its course. Then we can allow the play to end as is, and rule using our super-duper replay technology if still needed. So in the case of that early Chargers-Broncos nail biter, the Charger who picked up the "fumble/incomplete pass" would have been allowed to continue running with the ball until he was pushed out of bounds, thus ending the official play. THEN, our zebra would have ruled it an incomplete forward pass, but THEN the Chargers could have challanged the call, and had it reversed in their favor." Unfortunately, that would be too simple, logical and easy a solution, so we will continue to allow officials to "blow plays dead" whether they are right or wrong, thus eliminated our super-duper replay technology as useless. ......any questions?"

To the draft experts I have one name...Vernon Davis
VJ91 posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was the best athlete coming out of college in '06. Freakish strength and speed for a big man. The boards loved him. Oh if only he was still on the board when the Bills picked 8th, they all said. Every mock draft had him in the top 5. The 49ers bit, and drafted him with the number 6 pick of the draft. What's he done so far to deserve that draft position? He's averaged bout 30 catches and 3 TD's. a year in almost 3 full seasons. The Bills almost get that much out of Royal. But take a look at these offensive linemen that were drafted after Davis in the first two rounds in '06: #23- Davin Joseph-G Starts for the Bucs. #29- Nick Mangold-C Starts for the Jets. #50- Marcus McNeill-LT Starts for the Chargers. #55- Andrew Whitworth-LG Starts for the Bengals. #59- Jeremy Trueblood-RT Starts for the Bucs. My point is very simple. Offensive linemen that get drafted in the first two rounds usually end up starting in the NFL. Buffalo has ignored the offensive line in the first two rounds since they struck out with Mike Williams in 2002. This franchise needs to build a new foundation. Three of the four best centers could all still be on the board when the Bills draft in the second round. If they ignore them, and draft the hot-shot tight end or another position, no way will the other three best centers still be there when the Bills' third round pick comes along. You see that is the key. Draft your offensive linemen in the first two rounds, and he will most likely start very quickly and be an impact player for you within a year or two. -
I looked up on Rivals.com who Antoine Caldwell is. Generally regarded as the second or third best center available in the draft. Nice third round choice on your educated mock draft. But my point is still the same, whether you choose to accept my input or not. Caldwell and the other best centers in this draft, Arkansas' Jonathan Luigs, California's Alex Mack and Oregon's Max Unger, will be off the board before Buffalo drafts in the third round. For the first time since 2002 they need to draft one of these OL's in the first or second round.

Since when do we have this "weak interior line"
VJ91 replied to ans4e64's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills cannot wait longer then the second round to draft one of those talented centers this coming April, because I think you really are the only one who thinks Preston is at least adequate. -
I just googled the first 2009 draft prospects site. Here is who the Bills should draft with their first pick in the first round, most likely the 9th thru the 13th overall pick of the draft: Duke Robinson, G, Oklahoma - 6'5- 335 or Alex Mack, C, California Rising - 6'4- 316 Both were listed at the bottom of the first round, I'm sure the draft guru's will mock the Bills for "reaching" that far down to draft either one of those guys. But WHO THE HELL CARES, when either could step in and start at center and most likely be the Bills' center for the next freakin' 10 years!!?? IF NOT NOW, WHEN, DO THE BILLS ADDRESS THEIR OFFENSIVE LINE WITH A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK??? To think that their one and only Pro Bowler since Reuban Brown is an undrafted free agent tight end! Peters is good, but obviously he is not enough to make any quarterback for the Bills look good alone!
-
You are just as bad as the Bills last 3 GM's: Donahoe, Levy & (Wilson/Modrak/Guy/Brandon/Jauron)! The 3 centers on your roster currently are Mel Fowler, Duke Preston & Christian Gaddis. Yet you would ignore the very best center/guard available in the first or second rounds. You will wait until round 3 to draft your center. I don't care about "reaching" in a draft. When there is a quality OFFENSIVE LINEMEN rated first or second rounder, you damn well better draft him. I have not even bothered to look at any '09 draft boards or even know who Caldwell is or where he's ranked. But it is time for Buffalo to draft the best center on the entire draft board with their number one pick of the '09 draft - be it 8 through 13, and I don't care if Mel Kiper thinks Brandon is an idiot for "reaching." You say this Michael Johnson DE is another beast? So what! Your center handles the football every offensive play, and the Bills have not had an NFL caliber center since Kent Hull retired in 1996!!
-
The Bills' all-time record for most seasons without playoffs now stands at 9: 2000 thru 2008. Before this "steak" the longest the Bills went playoff-less was 7 years: 1967 thru 1973. As far as the all-time NFL record, I can only guess that it has to be the St. Louis / Arizona Cardinals, I think they went over 20 years without making the playoffs, from 1976 thru 1997, or something like that. I don't care enough to check everysingle team in NFL history, but I'm pretty sure that's true for the awesome Cardinals organization.

Your name sake would be vomitting in his rocking chair with that last sentence. "Ground Chuck", despite having strong-armed Fergy throwing to Frank Lewis, Jerry Butler and shifty Lou Piccone, would have had Joe stick the ball into Joe Cribbs' gut 10 out of 10 times in that situation, just as Dick should have allowed Turk-ey to instruct Lost-man to stick the ball into Lynch's gut. And saying J.P should have done anything other then the play that gets called into his helmet, is like saying he should have been able to recognize 12 defenders crowding the line of scrimmage and audibled back into the dive play to protect the football. We all know that Lost-man is way to stupid to call audibles at the line of scrimmage, so that point is illogical also.

What is the over/under that we actually re-sign Losman?
VJ91 replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McGahee has sucked for Baltimore, considering the money they paid him. And considering the ransom the 49ers mortgaged for Nate, he has been worthless for them. And thats true despite Buffalo's 1-7 slide this season. Drafting McGahee in the first round when soon to be Pro Bowl guard Eric Steinbeck was still on the board and Travis Henry was coming off a solid 1,300 yard rushing season had to be the most arrogant, STUPID draft pick the Bills have made since they drafted Tom freakin' Cousineau back in the late 70's number one!!! Or, maybe Eric Flowers with their first pick 10 years ago. Or, maybe James Hardy with their second round pick last year. Well....it was ONE of the stupidest picks ever anyway.
