Campaign thread to force Ralph out as owner
VJ91 replied to Endzone Animal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great plan. If Wilson would sell the team to the fans. And if the NFL would allow fans/shareholders to own a franchise, which they have repeatedly said they would not, and that Green Bay will always be the only publicly-owned NFL franchise....ever. Other then those minor details, I think you should start printing the stock certificates. -
Marv really didn't keep the games close in the old days. Each one of the 4 consecutive Super Bowls he led those talented teams into (an accomplishment never equaled by any SB winning or losing teams in the history of SB's, by the way), the scores became more lopsided against him. And in MOST of the games leading up to those 4 consecutive SB's during that amazing 4 year run, Marv still had trouble keeping the scores close.....because the Bills were blowing out their competition so much. Yeah, I would just hate to see those kinds of old days back again, with all of these exciting 7-9-0 seasons to compare them to!

Campaign thread to force Ralph out as owner
VJ91 replied to Endzone Animal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Tampa fans forced what? And the St. Louis Cardinal fans all but ran what? And the old Houston Oilers fans shoved what? The fans of those cities had the least amount of influence on those owners' decisions of all. One wealthy family sold the Bucs to another wealthy family. Bidwell left for greener pastures in Phoenix, and Adams did the same leaving Houston for Nashville. The new owners in Tampa improved the team, managed to get a new stadium financed by the taxpayers or paid for by himself, and even got a SB Championship for the fans of Tampa. But there were no "fans forcing scum owners out" or whatever the hell you said they did. The fans of St. Louis waited 7 or 8 years until they saw an opportunity to do to Los Angeles what Phoenix had done to them. They puckered up for the Rosenblooms and paid them a king's ransom to move the Rams in. Now the Rosemblooms seem to want out of the NFL business themselves, but they did get a SB Championship for the St. Louis RAMS fans to enjoy. The Houston fans had to wait a few years for the expansion Texans to roll in and take them for a financial ride, getting their new stadium built that Adams could never get after the Astro Dome became old. But like the St. Louis fans before them, they antied up to get the NFL back. So if you mean that owners could sell to other millionaires, and move franchises to other cities when you say: "IT CAN HAPPEN", you're right. But if you want to try to portray the fans of those cities as some kind of heros that stood up for their rights to cheer for good football teams only, you are living in a fantasy world akin to some out here that think Ralph Wilson will hire Bill Parcells. -

At the very least, Jauron will be enshrined forever
VJ91 replied to GG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Dick Jauron would have gone 10-6-0, 11-5-0 and dropped to 8-8-0 this season, with two playoff appearances in those 3 seasons, would any of us be calling for his head right now?? Hell no. Well, that's the exact record Wade Phillips had in his three seasons coaching the Bills. He takes nothing but crap from fans still today, 9 years after he was fired. The truth is he was better then any coach hired since, and if Jones fires him in Dallas, I would not be upset to see Wilson give him another shot. -
Marv Levy sucked as a GM. I loved the guy as head coach. I will always defend his being a Hall of Fame coach, even though he did lose all four of those SB's. Amazingly, he was as bad a GM as was good a coach. Starting with Dockery and Walker, and then drafting Donte Whitner with his number 8 pick of his first draft, he was as bad as Donahoe before him.

As respectfully as I can say it, rest assured Linda Bodgan does not look like Jennie Buss, she looks like Ralph Wilson.

Every MLB in the NFL had better be his teams' leading tackler. I say Poz sucked this season because ask yourself one question: as the teams' MLB, how many impact plays did he make?? What amazing tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage, sacks, interceptions, or even just pass deflections or knock downs did the kid make to motivate you to say: WOW, what a star! To me, he played no better then John DiGiorgio played the year before. Average. And he had arguably better tackle play with Stroud and an improved Williams playing in front of him. Yet, almost every run he did not stop within 2 or 3 yards from the line of scrimmage, I watched him overpersuing and having to recover to make one of his team-leading tackles 5 or more yards downfield. Not exactly what I was expecting from this high ranked player from Penn State that some experts thought the Bills stold in the second round. So that is my somewhat long-winded explanation of the word "sucking" for Poz.

Ralph Had A Window To Make Biggest Statement!!!!!
VJ91 replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So 90 year old Wilson was supposed to fly into a high wind storm just to prove the Bills' franchise is in a good state? First of all, CBS would have shown nothing more then a pissed off Wilson even if he made it into his owners box for the game. Secondly, everybody knows the Bills franchise is in a pathetic state these days. -

Don't take this the wrong way, I want Dick fired just as much as everyone else out here. But did he do it again?? I don't listen to anything he says after games, because it is so moronic. But did he admit that he took the call away from Turk-ey again and called that freakin' run himself, or did Turk-ey call it? After calling that roll out pass for Lost-man against the Jets, I cannot imagine him calling another play this season. -
What are you talking about? I complimented your post for being accurate and humorous, and I want Dick, Modrak and Guy fired. How did you interpret my post into being some kind of sarcastic defense of Jauron?? Oh wait, that's right, I did sarcastically call out your efforts to boycott the Pats game. Well, how did that work our for you guys? Did you have signs before the game or did you organize a mass walk - out during the game? After all, you accused me of "living in fear", remember?? Well, did you heroically make a stand Sunday, because I certainly did not see any news about it on ESPN. So in summing up, I liked your post about "winds of change", and agreed with every single point you made. I want DJ fired, so yes I will be laughing when it happens, laughing with relief.

Point well taken. When the Bills were great, they lost 4 straight SB's. When the Pats became great in 2001 they won 3 of their 4 SB's since. Of course I am jealous of that fact as a lifelong Bills fan! But that said, YES, it is cool to see the hated Pats miss the playoffs with an 11-5-0 record this year.
-
Hey Pipe, you are pretty funny when you're not trying to organize first quarter walk-outs. Points 2 & 3 are my hotpoints right about now. Dockery and Poz really have sucked this year, and these two guys were supposed to be two of our best players. If Wilson really is upset, and fires Dick, he better send Modrak and Guy out the door with him.

Per Jay Glazer on the NFL Fox postgame show
VJ91 replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No shock there. The Browns went way down this year after a good season last year. Now they can go out and sign Scott Pioli from the Pats, since NE's season is over too. At least that's what all the Browns' fans think anyway. I'll believe it when I see it. Check out Browns' Nation and their forums sometime. They are forever making brash predictions of things that are rumored to be happening almost every day. Very few of them ever seem to happen for them. -
Patriots Nation should be hilarious right about now. Screaming and yelling about how the playoffs need to be fixed, how the Chargers will get a home playoff game at 8-8-0 while they are out at 11-5-0. I love it. Sure we Bills fans would be whining just as loudly if the Bills were in the same postition as NE, but I don't care, I'm just happy to see it happen to them for the first time since the Broncos missed at 11-5-0 back in 1985.

A Few Thoughts About The Game (and the season)
VJ91 replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Someone blindly worshipped J.P. Losman?? Who? And Why?? I do agree Edwards is a good young quarterback though. And I agree that Freddy Jackson is a warrior with tens times the heart of Dockery, Walker and Royal. Duke Preston is just a stupid talentless football player who tries hard. (How about that temper tantrum that allowed the clock to run down on the Pats 10 yard line at the end of the half?) What's up with Poz? This being his real rookie season, I hope the kid stops over-pursuing every single running play next year with a season under his belt. Of course I could go on and on, but what's the use? Three years after the great Donahoe purge, I honestly believe the Bills are in worse shape today. They need a back up QB, up to 3 starting O-Lineman with strength and ambition, the pass rushing DE that all of Bills nation is screaming for, a free safety and better depth at just about every freakin' postion. Finally, I don't care that Ralph is 90, and that Donahoe burned him, and that his trusted friend Levy "helped" him take back control for a couple years, or that he hand-picked young Russ Brandon to over-see his management committee. The man should suck it up and hire a good experienced football man again and step back and just watch from his luxury box, during his twilight years. -
What is everyones opinions in the level
VJ91 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the thing. Mack is being touted as a rookie starter in the NFL for whatever team gets him. After the first couple of DE's, that will certainly be off the board before the Bills' #10 - #16 first round pick, the rest are good looking prospects but not definite starters. With both positions being such high need positions, I think the Bills should "reach" down to Mack and draft him with their first round pick, regardless of where the draft gurus have him ranked. The best DE available with their #43 - #49 second round pick, will better value then whatever center is available at that pick, because Mack will be long gone by then, and he is head and shoulders the best center in the draft. -
-
You are wrong. Any major sports franchise owner who has presided over only 20 winning seasons in 48 years, absolutely knows what a loser coach looks like!

Watching Fowler and Preston play center.

First Round Busts don't help playoff chances
VJ91 replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And now, here for your enjoyment, is the Detroit Lions' first round success rate over the same time period: 2000: Stockar McDougle, T - Successful - started 54 games at tackle over 5 seasons for the Lions. 2001: Jeff Backus, T - Successful - still Lions' starting left tackle today. 2002: Joey Harrington, QB - BUST. 2003: Charles Rogers, WR - BUST 2004: Roy Williams, WR - BUST 2005: Mike Williams, WR - BUST 2006: Ernie Sims, OLB - Successful 2007: Calvin Johnson, WR - Successful 2008: Gosder Cherilus, T - Undecided - Has started 12 games at RT as a rookie, but these are the Lions!? The Lions are at 40% success rate, with Cherilus still undecided. -
First Round Busts don't help playoff chances
VJ91 replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's take a look at the New England Patriots first round success rate over the same time period, shall we?: 2000: No 1st round pick. 2001: Richard Seymour, DT - Successful 2002: Daniel Graham, TE - Successful - Graham played 5 productive seasons for the Pats before going to Denver as FA. Averaged 24 catches for 279 yds. and 3 TD's per season. Maybe not 1st round numbers, but not a "bust" either. 2003: Ty Warren DE - Successful. 2004: Vince Wilfork, NT - Successful. 2005: Logan Mankins, G - Successful 2006: Laurence Maroney, RB - Successful 2007: Brandon Meriweather, DB - Successful - In this his second year, he has 4 interceptions and has started 10 games. 2008: Jerod Mayo, OLB - Successful - has started all 15 games, has 121 tackles. It looks like the Pats are at 100% success rate and their scouts don't "dream" about finding the right players to draft! -
First Round Busts don't help playoff chances
VJ91 replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
. And you rank Erick Flowers ahead of McCargo? Actually, neither one of those two comes close to being the worst. Mike Williams, a top 5 overall pick, is the absolute worst choice out of those busts. Just look at some of the players the Bills could have drafted, that were still on the board at the number 4 pick of the entire freakin' draft, instead of that big fat stiff: Bryant McKinnie, Roy Williams, John Henderson, Dwight Freeney, Jeremy Shockey, Albert Haynesworth, Javon Walker & Ed Reed. "Thank you" Tom Donahoe, Tom Modrak and scouts for passing up all those players for "big" Mike Williams. -
Jauron's extention may have an 8-8 clause
VJ91 replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The "Crash and Burn" clause, that's funny. I guess Ralph has really lowered his expectations for his head coaches. Wade Phillips went 10-6-0; 11-5-0; and 8-8-0, and was fired after the 8-8-0 season. And Wilson was so upset with Phillips, he didn't even want to honor his contract! All Dick has to do to keep his job is post 7-9-0, 7-9-0 & 8-8-0 seasons? I don't know, maybe "doddering" is closer to the truth when describing Ralph Wilson then all you Sullivan-haters want to admit.
