Why should Toronto not have a team
VJ91 replied to jax bill backer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The should have an NFL team, given their size and wealth. I think it would be great for the NFL too. And there is no reason why the Bills can't stay in Buffalo with the NFL having a team there. The Sabres do fine with the Leafs having been in the NHL many more years before. I only have one problem to consider with the NFL team in Toronto: with all the crime the current NFL players getting involved with, there may be border crossing problems sometimes. It's all on ownership. If Buffalo found an ownership group, such as the one seemingly headed by Jim Kelly, that would only keep the team in Buffalo, Toronto could have it's own team without Buffalo needing their money and fan base. -
Ok, It's That Time Of Year Again To Define The Meaning
VJ91 replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post! And there is not a single NFL GM or executive who even use the word "reach" or at least give it any credence, if they do utter it. It is only a product of all the draft "guru's" who analyze the players and comment during the draft itself, that ever talk about a team "reaching." Here's a perfect example: The Bills "reach" for Mack at #11 in two weeks. The Kipers of the world will scream reach reach reach!! Fast forward 5 years, after Mack has earned his 4th consecutive Pro Bowl as the Bills' starting center, on his way to a Hall of Fame career. Do you think anyone will respect Kiper's whine of how the Bills reached for him on draft day? On the same token, let's say Mack goes where he "should" get drafted, to the Steelers with the last pick of the first round, and he goes on to have the same career for them. Would the Steelers deserve more credit for making the safe and obvious pick, if they have a need at center, with the 32nd pick in the draft? Of course not, but Kiper would praise them for the pick anyway! Same player, same potential career, two different draft scenerios. "Reaching" means absolutely nothing to the reality of drafting players. -
I'm predicting Peters will be signed before draft
VJ91 replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent post! I think Peters and his agent would be really stupid not to jump on that offer. It's a terrific compromise, and only the rookie on the Dolphins would be earning more then Peters. I hope sanity prevails and the Bills end up signing him to an extension. -
Why do you think I whine so much? I've only complained once or twice on these obvious main board topics that have nothing to do with the Buffalo Bills. Other then that, you won't find a single post I've made complaining about anything other then maybe what the Bills are doing from day to day. Here's a Bills-related question for you, on a non-Bills subject, Dean. Why do you think Time Warner won't pay the NFL Network what they want, and then just offer it to its' subscribers as a premium channel? Those of us that love NFL football and use cable, will buy it up in a heart beat, I know I would add it, even at the premium price. Now that our annual "North America's Team" game is being televised on the NFL Network, I feel very strongly about his issue. Especially against the Jets in December, when the game could have a real bearing on the season. What's your take on the stand-off between Time Warner and NFL Network??

I'm predicting Peters will be signed before draft
VJ91 replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a valid opinion, and certainly doesn't deserve to be shot down. However, there are many Bills fans - and sports writers for that matter around the country, who absolutely don't feel Peters deserves to be paid the money he is asking for. I still agree with you, to just pay the kid the money now, and let him bust his butt to show the NFL he's worth it. I think he is that talented, and I don't agree with many that he will turn out lazy and not work for the contract later. I don't ever see the Bills paying him that much money though. Peters will have to accept less money, sit out another long preseason, or end up getting traded to another team that agrees with you and I. That's all I see happening with Jason Peters. -
I think the Bills should get this guy at Tight End
VJ91 replied to JPicc2114's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perfect. I think the Bills should sign Paulaus and this kid. Think of the charity basketball team the Bills could put on the floor, when they tour the Toronto high schools next off season. -
Nice avatar Mr. administrator of over 9,000 posts out here, a woman licking the Stanley Cup. And that has what to do with football, huh? Please stop trying to defend this hypocrisy. You can accuse me of whining. You can accuse me of whatever you want. Bottom line, I was trying to defend we rookie posters and you came at me hard with my post not deserving to be on the main board. It was just not related to the Buffalo Bills. So every now and then I'll continue to get on one of these non-Bills related posts and remind you of how stupid your treatment of my opinion was, all because you didn't like to be called out for ripping on rookie posters who posted repeat topics without "researching" them first.

Syracuse Native Greg Paulus - QB - Buffalo Bills

Syracuse Native Greg Paulus - QB - Buffalo Bills
VJ91 replied to PearlHowardman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please count me out as someone that would "love" to see this happen. Maybe a tight end could get away with playing zero college football while playing baskeball, but not a QB! Here's my prediction on this kid, he won't see action as a possble starter in a regular season NFL game for at least 3 to 4 years, and by that time, who knows if the Bills will still be playing in Buffalo?? Are things that desperate in the NFL, that they need to sign a point guard from Duke to become their next star QB? Pathetic. -
When the Bills score a TD in the HOF game...
VJ91 replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The ceremony. My season ticket owning years as a rabid Bills fan were during the Bruce Smith era. I love watching these players get inducted after watching every single play of their entire careers. Marv, Jimbo, Lofton, Thurman and now Bruuuuuce. Hall of Fame game or not, AFL 50 year anniversary or not, I hate preseason football games. -

Yet another topic on the "main board" that has nothing to do with the Buffalo Bills. Not that I care, becuase it sounds like an interesting book to read. However, when I posted a topic on the revered "main board" not directly related to the Buffalo Bills, but related to some of the arrogant fans posting on this board, more then a few got defensive and flamed me for posting a "non-Bills topic" on the main board. So I see that the unofficial "rule" is that you can post non-Bills related topics on the main board, as long as your non bills-related topics are accepted by the defensive "all-pro" posters out here.

I disagree. You see 6-10-0, I see 10-6-0, if the team that showed up the first 6 games last season plays for the entire season this year. Injuries count a lot, and nobody can predict those. But the bottom line is, there is talent on this team, and DJ knows this is his last season here if they don't at least finish with the same record as the last wild card team in the AFC.

Jets moving training camp to Syracuse suburb

Yeah, Russ will do something about this. Watch for training camp to move to freakin' Hamilton, Ontario the day the Bills Rochester contract comes up. -
Jets moving training camp to Syracuse suburb
VJ91 replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cortland is about 30 miles south of Syracuse. It would be like calling Batavia a suburb of Buffalo. It's a strange place for the Jets to move up route 81 to though. I had no idea Cortland and south down to Binghamton was a hot bed of Jets fans? -
I don't know if he's been mentioned yet, but I think Joe Dufek could be a real sleeper here. He has a big arm, and has not gotten the chance he deserves.

I completely agree. As the number 8 pick of the entire 2006 draft, Donte Whitner is an absolute bust so far. In every way. He is a bust as a "young veteran team leader." He is a bust as a hard hitting strong safety, as I have not seen very many Sports Center top 10 hits by this guy since his rookie season. He is a bust as a shut down cover strong or free safety. I have not seen too many elite TE's get "shut down" against him since he came in in 2006. And now he's just another NFL player with an arrest record. Nice job there Marv. Especially when Cutler was just sitting there waiting for you to have the balls and common sense to draft him and end the Lost-man "experiment" right then and there! Or, Halati Ngata was available, who is now entrenched as an every down monster in the middle of the Ravens defense, while Whitner is entrenched as a big mouthed enigma on the Bills defense. I remember Levy telling us he wanted to start building the defense from the "middle", as if Whitner was Ray freakin' Lewis or something. If he wanted to build from the middle, wouldn't Ngata have been more logical????

Excellent point, Promo. And I totally agree with you how refreshing that is to see. The guy made the play of the SB, following a career year, and he did not allow his ego to as you say, "flip the bird" to his team. Nice job James, good for you. But unfortunately in today's NFL, when more and more players seem to think they can do whatever the hell they want when they want, regardless of the law or the police enforcing it, we must lower our old fashioned standards. Of course Jason Peters is a huge a-hole. Of course he has not led the Bills to even one playoff game, much less made the play of the game in a SB win. But he is one of the most talented, young, athletic LT's in the NFL, and there is nothing in a players' contract today that says he has to act mature about it. So now I think it is truly time for the Bills FO and coaching staff to put up or shut up about this guy and his 11 Mil a year demands. Pay it, trade him, or ignore him and replace him in the draft if he holds out again. If he holds out the entire pre-season until a few days before the MNF opener at NE, then stick him on the bench for the first 4 games of the season at least, making him work his lazy butt off in practice until he earns his spot back, if he does at all. But my opinion has not changed, I say pay him the money and enjoy his talent for the next 6 years.

Rotoworld reports that JP Losman has received no known
VJ91 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No known interest? What a shock, eh? Well, there's always the Arena League, or that new league allegedly starting up in 4 to 6 cities this fall, right? Good point on the fact Lost-man was a trade-up reach back into the first round pick by that genius Tom Donahoe. Mike Williams and J.P. Lost-man. Nice legacy there, Tom. Thanks for the memories man. -
Is that Promo the Robot from that old Channel 7 kids show, "Rocket Ship 7", from the late 60's into the early 70's?? on your avatar there?
-
No he didn't. Of course as a 31 year old undrafted LB, who was cut numerous times, before finally having his career season, he knew he was not going to command the money Peters' knows he can, and will, eventually get. Now, if he was a 26 year old undrafted TE, who has evolved into one of the games' elite LT's, as proven by his being named to two consecutive Pro Bowls, Harrison may have held out for a bigger contract himself....Just wondering.
-
Oh no! Cinci could reach for Ricky Jean-Francois at pick 106 in the 4th round and "ruin Buffalo's parade"?? God forbid! Hey, why shouldn't the Bills draft a DT that sounds like a goalie from the Quebec Jr. League, the Sabres can't make the playoffs these days either....he should fit right in.
-
Here's some advice; forget about those questions until one of them is announced as having signed with the Buffalo Bills, or the Bills draft a RB in the 4th or 5th round to compete with X-O behind Freddy, or the Bills just go to camp with Freddy, X-O and an undrafted rookie FA or an off the street FA or two to round out the camp roster. That is about as much "inside-info" you will ever get on this board without reading Tim Graham....exactly NONE.

Whitner "vows to file a lawsuit" over arrest/tasering.
VJ91 replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's funny. Donte's pissed the police used their tasers to calm down a professional football player in the prime of his athletic career complely out of control. What did he expect them do to, line up in 3 point stance and wait for the snap count?? Whitner's lucky they are using tasers today instead of their night sticks. Or their guns, for that matter. What in God's name is Donte Whitner doing running out of a bar at 3:00 AM all pissed off ready to get into a riotous fight in the first place?? -
Does Lynch's 3 game suspension force the Bills to draft offensive
VJ91 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Draft offensive for what...a running back on day one? Why? Lynch should sit his three games, shut up about it, and come out running like an animal the rest of the season. Jackson will start and Omon will back him up, and the Bills should start 1-2-0 or maybe even 2-1-0 without Lynch, regardless of the schedule after New England. The only "offensive" players the Bills should draft are on OL and TE.
