If he became a fan in '83 or '84, of course he should remember Kay and Hank! Kay was going to be our "cool offensive wizard" - sort of like Bill Walsh east. Man, that spin would be right up there with the crap that comes out of One Bills Drive today, when you think about it! Hank was nothing more then a good DC that was a horrible joke of a Head Coach. You are right. If he became a fan then, he should have remembered vividly the two conseuctive 2-14 seasons, and should not be so forgiving, that's for sure!

I speak of words like honor, code, and loyalty...
VJ91 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or Tom Cruise or Demi Moore, either, dammit! Too bad the Bills didn't give Peters a Code Red before he left for his physical in Philly. -
Nice comeback, and outstanding point. This is why I would like to see the circle jerks take a chance on Kendall Simmons. He is a Steelers guy, and if he has anything left in his knees, he can only help our patch work OL! And get into the SB? Please. I would be thrilled if the Bills just snagged that last Wild Card spot and just played a cometitive game on the road in the damn playoffs!!

Here are some various Mock Draft and analysis on Oher that I have read recently, from the writers of this site where you can build your own mock draft: http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/index.cfm Now I'm not saying these scouting reports are from Todd McShay and Mel Kiper here! These are some guys I've never heard of that write for this publication. Still, I checked with those two ESPN gurus. I won't subscribe as an "Insider", so I can only see their top 16 picks in round one. Kiper does not have Oher being drafted in the top 16 at all, and McShay also has Oher going to San Diego at 16. Kiper has the Bills drafting Pettigrew with 11. 16. SD: Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi The Chargers will be the beneficiary of Michael Oher's poor performance at the NFL Combine. He is an extremely inconsistent pass blocker, but that is less of a concern for the Chargers than it would be for other teams. Oher continues to fall down draft boards, but he should not drop out of the first half of the first round. 16. SD: Michael Oher, OL, Ole Miss Another pick which is on soft ground. Indications are the Charges are torn between Oher and Ohio State's Chris Wells. There is a certain need at RB, but the team's biggest need is at right offensive tackle. With the highest first round pick the team has have in years, expect general manager AJ Smith to fill that hole early. Oher is the best OL still on the board. In term of pure talent, he is in the same class with Baylor's Jason Smith. The only question has been his level of desire and intelligence. But San Diego is a team loaded with young and talented vocal leaders which will serve the massive Oher in his development. 13. WAS: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss Now that the Redskins upgraded the interior of both lines with the addition of $100 million man DT Albert Haynesworth and LG Derrick Dockery, they can focus on adding a tackle or end/outside linebacker with this pick. Andre Smith will not drop any further if he is still on the board. Oher has had an up and down draft evaluation period, but he has tremendous upside and could immediately start at RT for the Redskins before eventually switching sides when Chris Samuels calls it a career. If Mel Kiper doesn't have Oher being drafted at all in the top 16 picks, why would the Bills think they need to trade UP to be able to draft him around number 7 or 8? Now we can bash Kiper of course, after all, "Who the hell is Mel Kiper", right? (I'll always love that sound bite from that old Colts' GM back in the late 80's!) But it seems that Oher is all over the place in the "experts" minds.

I watched a video of Raji at the combine....

Obese youths scare you? Then obese adults like Langston Walker must make you piss your pants! All the same, Walker is being counted on as our savior at LT this season, big fat gut and all. Let's face it, if this kid has talent under all that fat, any NFL strength and conditioning coach can trim enough of it down to make him effective. -
You left out Lou Saban's second stint when he built the Electric Company who turned on the Juice in the early to mid 70's. When Wilson re-hired him in 1972, and I have no idea who the GM was at that time, Saban immediately began putting together a very talented young team, including some good players on defense as well as the best running offense in the NFL for that day. I remember after the team lost in the Wild Card game to the Steelers in 1974, those players were really pumped about the next few years - they really felt they were at the beginning of something special. We all did. We had just opened our brand new stadium, and there was a lot of excitement in the air. And this was years before the Bills had a song to play after every TD. But right away as the '75 season wore on, Wilson started his crap again. He refused to pay a few key veterans on both sides of the ball and instead traded them away. (Sound familiar??) By 1976 Saban had quit again, and on came another few years of some of the worst football in NFL history, before Knox came on board, and Buffalo "Had a Feelin, Talkin' Proud, Talkin' Proud." Knox had a feelin' Wilson's spending was over early after the '82 season, and he bolted for Seattle. And then that fight between Polian and Wilson after he led Buffalo to three straight SB's, ended his record setting stint. Does anyone want to bet that Polian was trying to convince Wilson to spend just a little more money in order to get that first damn SB WIN, and Wilson closed that bank vault once again??? None of us know, but Wilson does have that habit doesn't he? Then Donahoe wasted Ralph's alottment of money, and now Wilson has decided he will spend his own money his own way. Thus no playoffs for these long 9 seasons.

Well said. And how do you feel about our favorite team that we all love, being on this "wonderful" 9 years and counting playoffs-less run? Does that make you....happy? Lucky to be a Bills fan? Here's what I always say to fellow Bills' fans who take your stance: If I didn't love the Bills so much, I would not care to complain when they suck. Root for Philly or another team? Hey that would be easier. They have been a hell of lot more successful then the Bills over the last 10 years havent' they. Unfortunatley, I hate Philly and love the Bills. So I vent my opinions, good and bad, on these message boards. And I will be here right here with you celebrating if the Bills ever do win a Super Bowl, even if you never utter a single negative word about them, and I continue to complain way too much. We are both passionate Bills fans.

Hey I can go along with that opinion. If they "use the draft pick to move up or for a trade for a veteran player, blah blah blah." You have to be joking right? All the best damn veteran players were sitting out there in free agency. You know that thing that starts the end of February where the Bills and every team could have signed some GREAT veteran players without having to waste a single damn draft pick? And how much talent did the Bills add when those GREAT players were available?? I want someone to tell me what talented veterans the Bills are going to trade for now, with this extra 4th or 5th draft pick they seem intent on trading Parrish for! WHO?? Now, that all the best free agents are signed sealed and delivered to the teams that spent the money on them? Tell me one veteran left or even right tackle the Bills are targeting with their "package" of 4th round picks???? And just how good can this veteran be, if some other team is willing to part with him for a couple of 4th round picks in the first place? You know what I think the Bills will do with all of the extra 4th and 5th round draft picks they are compiling? Now this is a shocker, but.....I think they will use them to draft rookies in the 4th and 5th rounds. I would love to wrong, but these are the inner circle jerks working for the Wilson Bills were are talking about here.

And how many passes has Parrish dropped when he gets the ball thrown to him?? I've never read that he runs the wrong routes or can't get off the line of scrimmage, have you? It is certainly not his fault that our OC gives up on using this kid because....I have no idea why our OC's have never gotten the ball to him, actually. However, I have watched this guy make things happen in every type of facet of the offense. I could care less about Crowell. All those tackles he put up never seemed to be game changers. But Parrish is a game changer, he is lightning in a bottle. Didn't you watch those punt returns? Or those passes over the middle he caught and turned into 30 yard gains, the very few times Edwards or Lost-man ever bothered to throw him the damn ball? You call him a luxury the Bills can't afford. I call him a weapon the Bills refuse to utilize.
-
Right on. If you read the "latest scouting reports" on Oher, you start to think Mike Williams 2. The worst thing I read about him was on one mock draft, saying he would be a nice fit for the Chargers because although he can't pass block worth a damn, he is a good run blocker, and the rest of the Chargers' line would compensate. I don't think the rest of the Bills' line will be doing too much compensating if there is any truth to that report. Rookies always are over evaluated, and Oher could be the best OT rookie by the end of this season, for all any of us know. I just absolutely think the Bills don't have to trade UP for any of these guys, and waste additiional picks, period.

Excellent point. But a couple of times they did strike gold for their OL in the later rounds or free agency back in the 1980's. Such as when they drafted House Ballard in the 10th round one year, and they signed Kent Hull as a USFL FA back in 1986. But overall yes, they have basically ignored the OL on Day 1 of the draft for the past 20 + years.

Now the teams are coming out of the woodwork to line up and trade their 4th or 5th round draft pick for established return star and lightning fast veteran receiver Roscoe Parrish. Although I have said my last word on Jason Peters, I did read Alan Wilson's article this morning where he basically echoed what I have been ranting about that trade all along. What I will take out of that article is Wilson mentioning Ralph Wilson whining last season about the Bills need more talent. I guess Ralph meant to say his Bills need more cheap talent. Once again, these other teams looking to trade for one of our players know very well how much money he earns, and they know they will have to continue to pay him that much or even offer him a bigger contract extension. The Bills on the other hand, have decided he is no longer worth the money they were paying him. Why? When did Parrish become less of a threat returning punts? When did he start dropping passes? Oh wait, the Bills already have McGee and now McKelvin to return those kicks that Parrish was doing, so now he is too....expensive, right?? And, they signed T.O. for one whole season, so of course they need to dump Roscoe's 3.5 Million dollar salary. Excuse me, but if you were the starting FS of a defense facing the Bills this coming season, and you had T.O., Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish lining up against you at the same time, how in the world would you defend all of that talent and speed?? Please comment fellow posters, especially the ones who seem to be on board with this insane trade for another late round draft choice. But tell me how this is a way for the Bills to become more talented. Good luck with that.

So what, it's really warmer up here in Buffalo??

When was the last time you were happy...REALLY Happy
VJ91 replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to go all the way back to the 1988 draft. Of course nobody knew it at the time so I may not have been "really really happy" on that April day, but that was the Polian draft where he stole Thurman Thomas in the second round. Thurman turned out to be the last Hall of Famer drafted by Bill Polian and the final piece of 4 straight SB Bills puzzle. -
And you have shared in the Crystal Meth ball.

I don't think we should take an OT at 11
VJ91 replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No argument here. Although I would prefer the Bills to draft OT at #11, and the DE or pass rushing hybrid DE/LB at #28, I agree the Bills have gone way too many years getting lousy value for their OL and DL on day one! Before the Peters trade, I wanted the Bills to reach for the best center in the entire draft at #11. Now, of course, they need to draft the best OT, in my opinion, using the #11, but absolutely using the #28 on OT, if they think the best DE hybrid is staring them in the face at 11. -
Certainly not better then last years. Seriously, combined with a second year line coach, can OL really help the Bills end their playoff-less streak??

From the "Are you for real??" department
VJ91 replied to cossack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I happen to like Peters as much as Reid does, but your post is still hillarious! By the way, I know about Reid's pathetic sons, but is he some kind of closet alcoholic himself? I've read other posts about Reid liking the occasional drink. -
Name the unobvious player you think will have the Biggest impact
VJ91 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Weill I'll give you credit. Hardy is the most "un-obvious" Bill I could ever come up with. I'll go with Brad Butler. He appears to be the only member of last year's OL that will start and stay in the same position this coming year. (Walker did start at LT last year, but only for the first game). -
I agree 100% Skoob. Stroud played great last season, and Henderson can only improve the defense. Maybe I will get excited about this. But as always, the Bills have to make it into a reality first, right?
-
OK, I'm nuts. Go ahead and get excited about Henderson possibly coming to Buffalo and getting reunited with Stroud. First, it hasn't happened yet. Secondly, the Henderson-Stoud combo was at it's peak about 5 years ago. Now, they are fine veterans but older and much more banged up. Can they still be great together again? Who knows? Would Henderson be an improvement over Kyle Williams? Of course he would. Sorry, Albert Haynesworth I get excited about. John Henderson - no.

Some Realities About The Peters Trade That Some Won't Accept
VJ91 replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course I can think of "more", 4. My prediction is that Peters will now focus on deserving his money, and the Eagles will benefit from it, while the Bills will spend the next few years desperately trying to replace his talent. Enough said, I'm done with Jason Peters. I do agree with the one post out here, I really don't give a f... about Philly, I've never liked them, and now I'm moving on to what the Bills do again. -
How do YOU grade Buffalo's off-season, thus far?
VJ91 replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Outstanding observation!
