  1. I don't care what many of the pansies on this board might say about the it's only preseason b.s.- everyone from the gm on down should be instantly fired. The season is a loss no matter what they do why not start early and bring in Cowher to try to turn this sh*t franchise around

like i continue to say, cowher would never come to buffalo and work with ralph, he likes winning to much

  2. 1. Our OL has two rookie starters playing different positions than they did in college, 2 returning starters playing different positions, and a FA signing @ C. It will take them more than 4 or 5 preseason games to understand their reposibilities and get comfortable playing with the rest of the guys. Walker isn't built to be a LT and Bell will likely be our best option at the position. Hopefully they'll start to pull it all together by about week 4 or so.

    2. Turk is in his 2nd year as an OC and they are implimenting a new scheme. Turk can't make the reads for Trent and he also isn't out there slingin the ball around. The 3-4 gameplan could be effective, but it has to be run that way by Trent. He is the field general, not Schonert. Guys are usually open, but Trent misses them.

    3. The defense is better than average and expect them to be anywhere from #10-#13 in the league this year. We have a solid secondary, Puz is going to have a breakout year, and Schobel along with Maybin WILL help us to generate more pressure in passing situations which will lead to us getting more turnovers.

    4. We already have had the Whitner discussion a bazillion times. We've all had the McCargo discussion a bazillion times.

    5. Edwards could thrive in Buffalo. But if he can't with our group of WR's and RB's, I don't think he can anywhere. Edwards misses reads and plays scared ever since he got mauled by Adrian Wilson. If he can't get his head together back there he will be kicking cans or UFL bound.

    6. I agree that the no huddle hinges on Edwards and the OL, but you have to show it because the guys need live reps in actual game situations. This isn't like a trick play that you use once a year, this is an actual strategy that we are going to use alot.

    7. I agree that we needed more than TO and Hangartner, but I think Modrak has done a pretty good job I believe and bringing in Nix will pay off as time goes along. I also don't know what games you're watching, but almost ANYONE would be an improvement over Preston and Fowler playing C. We also were handcuffed this year in a way because of the dead money that was created by letting go of Dockery. I also believe that this could possibly be Schobel and Kelsay's final season with the team, to go along with the coaching staff, and Edwards. We could be seeing a completely different team on the field next year. This season is make or break for alot of the players and coaches, but we have a good group of young players and a few quality veterans that will be here for a few years to come. The future isn't as dark as some of you would like to portray it to be.

I don't think i've ever seen a reply with more excuses in my life. are you russ brandon

  3. When you watch him actually make a few throws and you watch Edwards refuse to throw a pass more than 5 yards downfield, the argument becomes very easy to bench Edwards...

I just wonder how many qb's we are going to run out of town(and i've always said trent sucked), before people realize that we have an extremely dysfunctionsal organization created by an owner who seems to have no idea what's going on. over the years, ralph has created these situations over and over again, and never fixes them until ticket sales go in the toilet and than he gets desperate. and after a few years of success, he messes it up again and repeats the cycle. he's been a crappy owner and gets elected to the HOF, pretty sad

  4. Roethlisberger wouldn't have excelled with the Bills. He is a guy who manages the game for the first 3 and a half quarters and than comes up big in the last 7 or 8 minutes. The Bills don't have the D or the ground game to support a guy like Roethlisberger. So don't feel too bad about missing out on him he is just the right guy on the right team (Don't get me wrong he is a very good QB but he needs a good team around him I mean he threw 17 TD and 14 INT last season)

Your point about the coaching staff is a little simplistic. Sure it looks good for a coach to yell at his players and run tough camps but you have to win to do all those things. I mean Tony Dungy doesn't yell that much yet he won with two teams the Bucs and Colts. If a coach is smart and makes good game plans and in game decisions that is more important than passion.

To me DJ gets out coached a lot and that is why he isn't a good coach plain and simple.

in case you didn't catch it, the pitt O score 10 points in the first half

  5. I watched the entire game from start to finish.

I did'nt say Edwards played great or good. He played badly tonight.

Yet you cannot tell me that the O-Line dominated tonight's game. If that's what you are trying to tell me.

How much of the game did you watch?

considering they were playing one of the best D's in the nfl, i think the O Line did a very good job

  6. At least Maybin is wearing the correct number - 58, because this kid has Pro Bowl outside LB written all over him. I would dump this stupid 2-gap crap and go 3-4 starting in practice tomorrow. Here's my 3-4 starting 7: OLB's: Maybin and Ellison or Harris. ILB's: Poz and Mitchell. NoseGuard: Stroud & Williams in rotation. Ends: Schoebel & Ellis. By using the 3-4 alignment, we can finally send Kelsay to the bench permenantly, and remove one of the 4 roating fat stiffs at DT who go 16 game seasons without so much as a QB pressure, or tackle behind the line of scrimmage. In their place, we will have young fast ends and linebackers who can use their natural speed and instincts more to their advantage.

I am sick and tired of watching all those decent to good defenders in Fewell's frustrating schemes over-persuing plays and never, ever getting enough pressure on the QB on 2nd or 3rd and long to enable themselves to get the hell off the damn field. ;)

i think that's a great idea, i've never liked the way the defense has played under fewell. somehow i doubt dj will go along with it, even though the patriots seem to be able to play either

  7. As a police officer and someone who comes into personal contact with people like Vick I have come to be able to spot a sociopath when I see one. Vick is a sociopath and I guarantee you he will commit crimes again, be prosecuted again and go to prison again.

If you honestly believe that he has turned over a new leaf (he's been out for what 6 months?) I dare question whether you are a prosecutor or not. Please don't let the law enforcement community down by being duped by this scumbag.

do you spot the sociopaths when you are handing out traffic tickets, or when you are eating donuts

  8. This board spent the entire off season talking about him. At least the high motor guys we have that suck are ours. He is a low motor guy that sucks that is somewhere else, lets forget him. Or why don't we talk about every ex Bill all day long.

i didn't start the thread, and when we go 4-12 with guys that suck that are ours, at least you'll be happy

  9. Seriously, too many people are on their high horse about Vick. I'm a prosecutor...have been for over 7 years now. Day in and day out, I send people to prison for crimes ranging from stealing a car right on up to attempted murder. These guys go in, do their time, and come out and do the same sh-- over and over again, sometimes they do worse. Give Vick some credit for trying to resume a normal life and make something of himself instead of being some low life convicted felon who continues a life of crime. He looked more comfortable that Edwards out there on the passes he threw.......... Oh, and Peters sucks.

considering that you are a lawyer, i'll take your opinion for what it's worth (nothing)

  10. Not to turn this into a college football post, but I see Penn St has that brutal out of conference schedule again this year. Man, with Akron, Temple, Syracuse & Eastern Illinois on the OOC slate, I do not know how they are going to run that gauntlet. & what a surprise, they are all in Happy Valley. I hope Penn St runs the table this year & gets left out of the NC. It would serve that Old coke bottle 4 eyed f*cker right for not having the balls to play anybody.

I think the point is that it's going to take maybin awhile to learn how to play football against real competition

  11. Just curious....who are the busts you refer to from Penn State?

I can think of 5 "confirmed" busts in 25 years.

    Todd Blackledge

    Courtney Brown

3 headed RB monster - Curtis Enis, Kijana Carter & Blair Thomas.

geez, how many do you want. the other question is how many have actually succeeded (I'm still on the fence with Poz hoping he gets good this year, and kerry collins, who seems to be redeeming himself)

  12. Interesting article. I'll be at the game tomorrow so I'm really curious to see if Maybin gets in and where they put him. Given his youth, relatively light weight, had to add 20 lbs just to get to 250, and the fact that he's missed so much practice, I kind of think they should use him as an OLB for the next year or 2 until he fills out then maybe move him back to DE.

Get Copeland or Ellis some 1st team DE work and see if they can handle it. To me, Maybin's going to have to rely on superior quickness, technique and be super-aware of what's going on around him to be successful at DE with his current size (just like Bruce Smith). After only 1 week of practice as a rookie, I worry he'll get smashed up/injured if inserted at DE tomorrow. Throw him in at OLB in passing situations and see what kind of pass rush he can generate.

If Copeland/Ellis can perform capably with the 1st teamers, maybe coaches can groom Maybin for OLB this year. It'd be nice to push Ellison to the bench.

Just my opinion, but given the current situation, I think Maybin would make the quickest (and possibly best) contribution being an OLB this year.

or he could lose 20 pounds and play cornerback, that would make dj happy
