How has a team full of "nice guys" worked our for us the last decade or so?
I want some nasty, and not "run over a chick" nasty, but a "ima use your couch for a nap cuz I can" nasty.
Honestly, talent really is the only thing that matters on the field, but if they can't play nice off the field and it impedes their playing time then yes, there's a problem. Right now, though, we're dealing with "what if's".

In 2 of the last 3 seasons, the Falcons earned home field in the NFC through their regular season records. Yes, that's supposed to be the ticket to the Super Bowl, but your argument implies the losses are Ryan's fault and that's just ridiculous. The first year, Aaron Rogers Lit 'em Up when the Pack got on their incredible SB run. How could Ryan have helped stop 50 pts against his team? Last year, he did engineer a strong lead vs SF, only to have the 9ers stage an incredible comeback. Again, Matt Ryan doesn't play defense..
Here's the real issue; with a top tier QB, you always have a chance. Without one, you don't. Matt Ryan is a top tier QB. His contract is up and it's HIS TIME to capitalize on it.
From a Bills perspective, I'd rather have Matt Ryan than ANY QB we've had since Jimbo hung 'em up.
It amazes me how some posters go so one-sided to fit their "agenda".
the Falcons D did everything they could to lose that game against the 49ers, but let's blame Matt Ryan.

I enjoyed it. We really do have some likable guys on this team. It's nice to look back at some of the positive things guys did who otherwise get lambasted week to week.
I really hope this coaching staff can maximize that locker room's potential.

Everyone saying "Goodwin is a football player who ran track". His collegiate production was rather underwhelming. I'm not expecting much from him this season
His production when touching the football was actually pretty damned good. It was the amount of "touches" that was underwhelming.
Can't blame him for that.
He's not Graham, and he's certainly not Roscoe Parrish. Lumping in all small wr's is silly. This kid's better than that.

For those of us hoping that Kolb would be able to give Manuel a year on the bench to study and learn, I was disheartened to hear that Larry Fitzgerald is saying that Carson is his first real QB he has had since Kurt Warner retired. Sounds like Larry is not a fan of Kevin Kolb and looks to me like we have been duped again.
Meh, Warner and Palmer wouldn't have survived behind that line Kolb had to play behind either. I don't think anyone would have, it was historically bad.
I'm with 'Chandler#81', wait and see.

This statement pretty much sums it up.
For the OP to state that "the Bills actually have some talent at the linebacker position" and then offer up Hughes' name as an example, won't give most fans a warm and fuzzy. Hughes has been a bust up to this point in his career. Throw in a rookie who's never played a down in the NFL and a free agent vet who's never played a down for this team and there are a ton of question marks with very few provens on the roster. Time will tell.
I'd tend to agree. OP should have started and leaned heavily on the theory that our new D coach will be able to maximize player potential, not just thrown it in at the end of the post.
Pettine will be the key here, for better or worse.

Manuel and our new defensive scheme. Pettine will prove to be a huuuuuge addition. So huge, this will likely be his only season here in buffalo
This is where I am as well, though I'm also interested in seeing what Kolb can do with our Offense, good or bad.
If I had to pick one guy I'm most excited to see play for us, it'd be Kiko. I am VERY intrigued by this draft pick, maybe even moreso than Manuel, who I wanted even at 8.

A few years ago when the Bills had an inordinate amount of injuries going into a game against New England, a smug Patriots fan said to me that injuries are not an excuse. Teams must over come injury. Every team has injuries, every team has attrition and sadly many have suspensions. It is not pathetic it is the nature of the league.
I think he/she meant the "hope for" part was pathetic, not the actual injury/arrest part.

I don’t know, but sometimes I think Bills fans are downright delusional. Before we easily traded down to acquire Manuel, he was generally considered to be around the fourth or fifth best QB in a remarkably weak QB class. Just about any description of him, pre-draft, included words like, “inconsistent,” and “project.” And now, after a handful of practices without pads, he’s the next Big Ben. Clearly. He has potential. I was happy with the pick and would have been quite disappointed with Geno Smith. But, throwing a project rookie into the fire week one against the Pats (as a 7.5 point underdog, currently) can have its own damaging affects. It will be much healthier to bench Kolb for Manuel than the other way around.
Furthermore, I can’t imagine that Marrone, a first time NFL HC is going to rely on a project rookie in his very first game against a team like the Pats. Anyone who doesn’t think that Marrone wants to win his first game is crazy. Kolb has his flaws, but he is a known quantity, which makes things like play-calling a lot easier. Even if EJ lights it up in game three of the preseason (unlikely), starting him against the Pats is a higher risk.
IMO- start Kolb.
