Which again begs the question of why he bothered doing this in the first place ...
Then again, this is EXACTLY what I expected when I first read about it, so I can't say I'm disappointed by the result.
Ya, to me this is kind of degrading. Does Russ think these answers will make the fans happy or let them gain insight on the draft? It makes me think that he thinks we are idiots. I'm probably overreacting, but I think we're all going a little crazy this week.

Same here. I never understood all the rancor toward Losman. The guy gave his best effort, was a team player, positive attitude toward the city, etc. I hope it works out for him.
That's what sucks. He organized some great things for the city when he was here. Buffalo has no player that represents the city. Unforunately the guy that last took on that responsibility was a bad quarterback. No I did not want J.P. in over Edwards. I just think he was a good guy.

Awesome!!

Ask him if the sky is blue.
PTR
Russ: Well the sky could be alot of things. We like the way it looks right now and we're happy to move forward with it the way it is.

The said on Sirius with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan this afternoon that the Chiefs are listening to offers for Glen Dorsey. Any takers? Would you prefer him over John Henderson or anyone available in the draft?
Did they give any idea of what it would cost?

you are exactly right. And it is the reason i hope the Bills dont go after a TE. Evans and Owens will command a lot of attention, leaving Reed matched up with a safety or nickel back. And thus leave Fine to be covered by a LB. I think Reed is actually Edwards favorite reciever. If you look at how Trents play suffered last year, Reed was hurt a lot of those games in the middle of the season.
Also going forward hopefully Johnson or Hardy will develope into the outside guy, that Owens is this year. Meaning you dont really need a dominant TE. Yes it is nice, but not when you got other areas of need.
Bills need to focus on D front seven and interior Oline in this draft.
Very true. The front 7 should be our first two picks. Then we draft our center in the 2nd.

You say him play? did you watch pactice? hope he turns out but not much to base anything on.
Well if we're playing that game.
-
I wish him good luck. He may have sucked here but he was an alright guy.
-
He is very good at saying nothing.
Half of his answers don't answer the question he was asked.
What was the point of this? (I'm not attacking the poster at all) I mean what is the point of this Q and A. These were generic things we already know.

I keep reading that people think Roscoe Parrish could be like Wes Welker in the right system, but isn't Josh Reed really that guy. With Owens and Evans on the outside could we see Reed catch 80+ balls for 850 yards and 7-10 TD's. He really played well at times last year as the de facto # 2 receiver. He could eliminate the need to spend a high pick on a TE and give Fine a year to show what he can do. Sorry if I'm hitting a topic that has been done alot, but I'm newish to TSW.
Nice post. I completely agree. Reed can be much more lethal than Parrish in the slot. The guy had 56 catches and 0 drops last season. I think Reed could walk all over nickel corners with T.O. and Evans on the outside.
My prediction is Reed puts up better numbers than T.O. this season.

Scenario #1 is severely flawed as unlikely, first of all you are NOT getting Scheffler for a 4th round pick......he was a 2nd round pick of Denver's, is considered one of the better young tight ends in football....they are going to ask for a 2nd round pick or a 3rd & 5th. He is in the LAST year of his rookie contract and is gonna want to get paid !! you will have to pay him twice what a #1 pick in the 20-28 overall would get. But for discussion purposes, if denver was stupid enough to take a 4th round pick, then scenario #1 is best. i would be happy with scenario #1 even if it cost us the #2 for Scheffler.
Scenario #2- the team that picks before ATL is NE at #23, a 4th is NOT enough, you need a lil more to do that. in order to go further from the #28th overall UP to #20 it will cost you a 3rd round pick. Your scenario #2 is more likely than your #1 scenario. i would be happy with this one also.
the Bills are going to take Pettigrew with the 11th or 13th(trade WASH) and then UNGER or MACK with the 28th, then the best DL or LB with the 42nd.
Nice post paps. I don't understand why people think we can get a young proven TE for a fourth and think Roscoe is of the same value.
But I'll play along. I would go with the Pettigrew scenario because the guy is an outstanding blocker. He could mask a problem at tackle pretty nicely.

I paid close attention to Ellis when he did play. He was not good. I hope he was adjusting because he looked pretty bad. This guy would would make one effort to get to the qb and just stand there clueless.
In training camp I remember Jauron saying this guy was a project which is not what you want to hear about a third rounder. The fact that a single word hasn't been mentioned is not a good sign.
And this guy dressed for 7 games? That's pathetic for a 3rd rounder that is competing with the worst group of DE's in the NFL.
-
that's because we have a ridiculous amount of needs..
Yep. There's so many ways to go in this draft because we have so many needs.
Another thing. I wouldn't be suprised if we go safety in the 2nd or 3rd.
-
haha, just giving you a hard time. I think it's valuable to look at, and a good post. I wonder how much different eras effect the numbers.
note - man, college stats are hard to find. I was just trying to quickly look up some prominent current DEs college sack totals and had no success at all.
Hah, Ya it wasn't that easy especially for the older players. Another reason I made this was so that people realize in most cases you have to be productive in college to be productive in the pro's. Which is why Ayers scares the hell out of me.
-
you really think Terrell Suggs is a hall of famer?
After reading this that is what you take from it? wow
-
Career college sack stats of Hall of Fame DE's and Current 2009 draft prospects
Player Sacks
Bruce Smith 46
Reggie White 32
Chris Doleman 25
Julius Peppers 30.5
Michael Strahan 41.5
Terrell Suggs 44
Jason Taylor 21
Dwight Freeney 34
Robert Ayers 9
Everette Brown 22
Brian Orakpo 21
Aaron Maybin 16 (soph)
Tyson Jackson 16
Larry English 30
Michael Johnson 20
*Connor Barwin 10 *(1 season at DE)
It's hard to compare these guys to the all time greats but these stats are interesting to look at.
-
I've seen those highlights a few times before. Did anybody see how he stays home on reverses and misdirections? Our DE's would have been right where the other team wanted them on those plays. It looks like he plays smart and knows the game.
They obviously don't show his bad plays against the run but he did pretty good from what I saw.
-
I dont understand the height thing either. Take a ruler and measure out 2 inches on a piece of paper. Then someone please explain to me why that miniscule difference in how tall someone is means they are going to be significantly worse than someone taller.
I've watched him from the stands the past 2.5 years and the guy is explosive as hell and would be a welcomed addition to our lack of a pass rush.
Very true. I don't care if he's 5'5". The guy flat out gets to the quaterback.
Oh and Ramius that pic and description is hilarious.

Best DE prospect coming from this year's draft in my view.
He definitely is. When you look at any DE he's by far the best.
-
I, too, saw promising play from Bell last year. I HOPE the FO believes in him because we still have all the other needs we had before JP departed. Drafting a LT with one of the first round picks negates the whole thing.
DE, C/G, LB & TE remain huge holes that have to be filled with players not currently on the roster, IMO.
There are too many things you said right here.
-
Drafting a LT in the first seems like a bad move. He porbably won't start right away and when he does he will be compared constantly to Peters. That can get to a kid.
Plug Walker in this year, let Bell develop and see where we stand. This way we can focus on the DE talent that will be there at 11 and one of the top teir linebackers at 28.
-
Nothing too interesting but none the less thanks for the heads up timba.

I love Johnson and think he can be something special. That being said I can't see him passing Reed on the depth chart. Reed was solid last year and will probably get better with the addition of TO.
