The Offensive Line: Better Than Advertised?
bourbonboy replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Williams is not starter-caliber, particularly in this year's offense - he has the size, but not the power, so is not a great fit. He is versatile, can play guard or tackle, and would make for good backup depth, but we need a better starter. -
Bills also have a ton of guards signed under futures contracts - I know nothing about any of them (likely all projects/longshots), but thought it interesting that they have more a lot more guards signed than any other position. They know its an area of need.
-
Still unsigned, left Detroit without a deal, visiting St Louis next - why no interest by Bills? Only thing I can figure is he's looking for too much money? Bills resigned to drafting OL help?
-
Saints reporter is thinking the same thing: It seems like something almost has to happen w/ Jahri Evans and his contract in next 24 hours, or there's not room for Spiller. https://twitter.com/TheSaintsBeat/status/576444060795322369

QB Sam Bradford traded for QB Nick Foles
bourbonboy replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just saw Chip Kelly press conference...he's getting grilled in Philly, and he's defending Bradford move, and says "I was offered a 1st round pick for Bradford this morning..." (clear vocal emphasis on I) Excuse me? Is this his personal team? ANY other coach or manager would say "we" were offered a 1st round pick. Nobody else seemed to pick up on this, but holy ego, batman! He may know football, but it's still a team sport, and there's no way this ends well in Philly.....they've had much better years than Buffalo of late, but I'm feeling for my Philly friends and family now. -
WR Percy Harvin's first visit is with Bills
bourbonboy replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What he said - this guy was inches short of 1000 yards and 6 TD's just a few years ago, and a dangerous returner on top of that. If we can pick him up cheap, he fills Spillers return role, and instantly becomes a concern to the opposing defense. He does bring more risk than Incognito, IMHO, but hey - life is short - go for it! I'm loving this off-season! -
Dolphins re-sign Kelvin Sheppard
bourbonboy replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Note Rotoworld's post on the signing: A 2013 third-round disappointment, Sheppard is most infamously known for being the player the Colts traded Jerry Hughes to acquire in 2013. Sheppard will try to make the Dolphins as a special teamer and substitute linebacker. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6620/kelvin-sheppard -

Searcy Watch--update signs with Tenny
bourbonboy replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Searcy's name had been mentioned with Colts, Raiders, Texans and Dolphins a few days ago, and there's a report that Giants were added to that mix this morning.... -
RB Frank Gore with Eagles
bourbonboy replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I grew up in Philly, and am still an Eagles fan (2nd to the Bills), but c'mon - why wouldn't he prefer the Colts? Better team, more playoff hopes, coach more appreciative of RB's, and if I'm a RB and have to replace somebody, I'm gonna look MUCH better compared to Trent Richardson than McCoy....not to mention the difference in QB's to minimize the 8-man fronts....assuming $$ are similar, this is a no brainer! -
It was my understanding that Shady may have been willing to redo the contract, but was not willing to take a pay cut. Chip Kelly doesn't value RB's (look at the tender they just made Polk - only 1.6 million, and Iggles get nothing if he signs with another team), so rather than cut him, they called around and got the best Duck available in trade at the time.... But I agree, I hope this puts a "chip" on McCoy's shoulder, and he plays angry this year.... I was more concerned about the dropoff in McCoy's play and rushing numbers last year, but the more I read, the more confident I am that little of this had to do with McCoy. Great article breaking down last year's stats and play here: http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/52564/311/lesean-mccoys-future

Todd Herremens (OG) Cut by Eagles--Signed by Colts
bourbonboy replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather have Blalock, just cut by Atlanta - graded above average, and at 6'4' / 326 fits our ground and pound scheme. -
Sunday Ticket - Share Your Strategy Time...
bourbonboy replied to Griz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK - I just went through this ordeal TWICE - once for myself (7 or 8 yr member), and once for my parents (11 yr members). It is much easier if you have been with them for a while - they are appreciative of the loyalty. I did not specifically threaten to quit service, but said we could not afford it, and needed to get our bills down....and of course, sweet talked her and tried my best to get NFL Sunday Ticket, which we both had free last year. According to the service rep. that helped me for both accounts (I did both at once), DirecTV cannot give you free Sunday Ticket if you had it free last year. The best they can do is offer you discounts, which are directly linked to your account (they can see what offers are available when they pull up your account). Best offer on my account was a free $100 Visa card (and $20 or so off my monthly bill). No NFL Sunday Ticket. My parents account had an offer for half price ($165) NFL Sunday Ticket Max (no Visa card), but somehow the rep. turned this into free by providing a 1-time credit for $165, which needed special manager approval to do. I asked the rep. if I could get the same deal, but it could not be done for my account. Her advice was to try and call back later when deals for my account be different (in a month or two). Best of luck! -
Rotoworld: Mike Williams may get cut?
bourbonboy replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Latest Rotoworld post not so gloomy: Mike Williams got some first-team reps in three-wide sets on the final day of Bills minicamp. WGR 550's Joe Buscaglia scoffs at the notion Williams' roster spot is in jeopardy, saying the Bills "like him a great deal, and view him as someone that can make an impact on the offensive side of the ball." We tend to agree, even if Williams merely projects as a red-zone specialist behind Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. He's not going anywhere.... -
FYI - saw this in Rotoworld, and didn't see it posted here yet: WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia suggests Tony Moeaki is a threat to Scott Chandler's starting job. Moeaki spent almost the spring with Buffalo's first-team offense, while Chandler was limited in OTAs and excused from minicamp due to a family matter. Moeaki is a better blocker and athlete than Chandler, and the Bills at very least can put him to use in two-tight end sets. Per Buscaglia, Buffalo wanted Eric Ebron at No. 9 had it not found a trade partner to move up for Sammy Watkins.

My apologies if this is a repost, but didn't see it noted herein....not only wasn't Farmer present for the Pettine interviews, but according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Pettine wasn't new GM Ray Farmer's first choice to replace Rob Chudzinski.. So basically, if Cleveland had done this thing right, Pettine would still be Bills DC. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9338/mike-pettine

Love seeing this kinda stuff on the wire (this one from Rotoworld): Bills GM Doug Whaley says CB Stephon Gilmore has "made a leap" in his second NFL offseason. It's a scary thought for No. 1 receivers in the AFC East. Gilmore flashed true shutdown ability over the final 11 games of his rookie year, allowing a 53.5 completion rate on throws into his coverage and not a single touchdown while often shadowing opposing No. 1s. When receivers play the Bills this season, Gilmore's presence will be something for fantasy owners to take seriously.

Jason Peters: holdout check, arrest check
bourbonboy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters at least lasted longer in Philly than Demetress Bell did - Bell was openly released months ago (after grading out as a bottom-three tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings), and is still looking for work. -
Per Rotoworld..... Maybin appeared to get his career back on track as the team's most effective per-play pass rusher in 2011, but he had just two QB hits and zero sacks this season. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2009 draft managed just one tackle on 120 snaps through eight games.

I agree that it makes a lot of sense to groom Potter for the job - and use his booming leg on kickoffs and perhaps a few long FG tries along the way. With Lindell's contract, we'd take a salarry cap hit if we cut him this year (current cap number is $1.9 million, would be $3.6 million if we cut him), so that's one more reason it's not too likely. Speaking of cutting kickers, though, I haven't heard much about the punters - we'd lose nothing, cap wise, if we cut Moorman. Anyone know how the Powell vs Moorman competition is looking? We'd stand to save almost $1.2 million if Powell wins the job.

Bills cut DT Lionel Dotson sign DE Sean Ferguson
bourbonboy replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So had Dotson already checked into training camp before they released him? That'd be lousy timing.... -
From Rotoworld: According to TheSidelineView.com's Adam Caplan, free agent RB Travis Henry wants to return to the NFL. Henry will be 34 in October and has been in federal prison for drug trafficking since 2009. He was also suspended by the NFL in 2008 for failing a drug test. It's really hard to see any team even kicking the tires here. I'd almost forgotten about Travis....what a waste of natural ability. Of course, he's got so many kids, chances are at least one of them inherited a little, and maybe can make the most of it.
-
Don't forget that Moorman is in the final year of his contract, and is due $1.675 million this year, the biggest payout of the 6-year deal. if the Bills can find his long term replacement, and cut $1 million in salary, that's just good business.

UPDATE: QB Vince Young Signs With Buffalo Bills
bourbonboy replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great move, with very little downside - Bills figure to keep one experienced backup, which will be Young or Thigpen - may the best man win. If it is Vince Young, Bills also save a few $$ in the process (VY $2 million, Thigpen $2.5 million in base salaries). -
RD 2, Pick #41: OT Cordy Glenn - Georgia
bourbonboy replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
dude...you wouldn't know a good draft if it bit you in the a**. I am ecstatic. Have a beer, a bourbon, libation of choice, whatever - they have two solid starters that will be on the field plenty soon enough.
