I agree totaly with you. Center makes line calls and holds down the shortest distance to the qb, as well as help open inside running lanes. Thats why i think if you can get one of the good young centers in the second you jump on it. Then Hangartner can slide over to gaurd in 2010. A position he also did well at while in Carolina.

Anyone Else Find it Strange That....
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The last few coaches TO has had have all taken different approaches. Parcells refered to him as 'that player'. Hardly if ever calling him by name. Phillips went totally the other way. Embraceing/praising him as openly as a coach could. TO seemed to produce and stay in line a little better under Parcells style. Jauron i think is setting the tone. He has always preached team. You hardly ever hear him praise a player by name or repremand any single player. He instead talks about 'or quarterback' or 'our cornerbacks'. This just might be what TO needs. A coach we will praise the team and make him a part of its overall success. If not TO is gone after one year. And we can stop complaining the Bills never try anything or do anything exciting. -
Currently being reported Peters and Bills are working on a deal. So left tackle should be good for awhile. Center was addressed with Hangartner who will be a big step up over Fowler/Preston last year. Butler at right gaurd is turning into a solid player. Walker is under contract for another 3 years at right Tackle. So that leaves left gaurd open. I dont like the thought of Whittle playing there everydown. He seems as a quality depth guy. My approach would be get Simmons for a two year deal if the medical staff feels he is ready. Draft a center in the second or third round to develope under Hangartner for a year. Grab a gaurd later in the draft in round 5/6 to add depth and work in behind Simmons. The thing that has me most excited is the new that Bell seems to be progressing nicely. Think about if he could turn into your everyday right tackle. He had great athleticism out of college, just lacked strength. Another year in the weight room should help with that, and he serves a the back up right tackle for the next two seasons. Then you have two young great tackles, center is addressed for awhile. Butler and Hangarnter are your gaurds and add depth/ one day starts in the draft. Set for years. Well atleast in theory.

Kyle Williams speaks very highly of Demetrius Bell
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Moving from left tackle to left gaurd is not an easy move. However for someone as young as Bell it would not be as difficult a switch as say an Orlando Pace, or another longtime starter at tackle. Look how Peters was able to go from right tackle to left tackle. Thats a much more difficult move. And from everything i have heard about Bell he has the athleticism of Peters but lacked the strength. I think he only did 225 bench 9 times at the combine. That is not very good for a linemen. So if he has gotten stronger, and kept his athleticism. He will probably by the depth we need this year. I would like to see the Bills bring in another Vet maybe for a 2 year deal, like a Simmons for left gaurd. And let Bell focus on tackle. Maybe he is Walkers replacement. If that was the case, think about those two young stud tackles. Draft one of the centers in the second or third. And pick up another later round gaurd for developement. And man you could have a good line for many years. You already have Butler at right gaurd. Just my thoughts. -
To signing in Buffalo could actually start a precedent of some big names going to small markets. If TO comes in and plays good, the Bills make the playoffs, and he is beloved by the community, then this could change the way a lot of FA look at signing somewhere. It could be the start of 'big fish in a small pond' syndrome. I hope so. I am sick of seeing teams like Buffalo shut out because they dont have the bright lights or name like Dallas or New York. Just an observation.

I posted this last week. I think you are right on about him. Whitner can play FS. Its is definetly worth a look. Price has to be right. There was talk about him moving into a weakside LB role. Especially in nickel coverages.
-
The part about the interview that was kind of telling, was when Rosenhaus said Roscoe Parish was one of our good young recievers. Not sure he did a lot of homework on that one. Its always about the money. I think this is a win/win if the Bills make the playoffs and TO helps with that. So who cares about Rosenhaus.
-
My thought exactly lets_go_buffalo. I know its not exactly an area of pressing need for us. But K.O. just isn't panning out. And Scott is ok, but i think Williams is an upgrade. Whitner gets to play where he can exel. Our corners are good and deep. Just a thought but i would understand if the Bills wanted to focus on the D front seven and Oline/TE. It would be fun to watch Williams light up Welker.

Roy Williams was let go in Dallas. He is a SS. The Bills have hinted at maybe playing Whitner at FS so his coverage skills can be utilized more. Williams was a beast when the Cowboys played the 4-3 like Buffalo does now. However he has seen his production drop in the new 3-4 scheme of the Cowboys. I am not sure what his cost would be. However he is 28y/o. So he is not too old. He did have injuries last year, so the price might not be too crazy on him. This is a guy worth a phone call and a visit. If he and his agent are realistic about his worth.

We all look at the Pats as a 'model' franchise. And what do they do when a db comes up for contract? They make him an offer but let him go if they believe it is to much. Three starting corner backs making starting cornerback money is to much for any team. We have no idea if the Bills are going to resign McGhee right now. But for this season we have McKelvin and McGhee as starters and some very competent nickel/backups. Who are the available FA DBs next year? Who knows what happens between now and then. I guess i would rather see the Bills focus on right now spending money where it is needed. OL and front seven on D

"So Russ you guys interested in T.O. ? I mean you guys were after Coles". Russ: " Well not really. But how much you guys looking for?" Rosenhaus: " Well a deal close to what he signed in Dallas, 3 years for $27 million, with 13 of that gauranteed". At that point Russ falls over. Sorry people it will never happen. He aint comming to Buffalo. I can't wait to read the thread of shock and awe when he signs somewhere else. And some people saying we could of had him for '9 million a year'. Some foolish team will pay him. The only way i would pay him any money is if it was a heavy incentive ladden deal. Based on his conduct, not performance. But even then it would be way to expensive for the Bills. Sorry guys and gals.
-
The whole chip on his shoulder thing is not a good way to describe T.O. When i think of a guy playing with a chip on his shoulder i think of Lawrence Taylor. A guy that played mean and hard. But was a leader. T.o couldn't lead a flag football team. He is a ME guy. Always has been and al;ways will be. He does everything for himself. You really want a guy on your team that does sit ups in his driveway in front of cameras. He has the suicide call incident a few years ago. Calling his QB gay in Frisco. Then crying in front of the camera about his QB in Dallas. There is no way to make this guy happy. Even when he is the number one guy on a good team he screwed it up in Philly. Then in Dallas he accuses Romo and Whitten of collusion. I am sorry but if you want this guy here, you are cut from the same clothe as Daniel Snyder. And we have all seen what that guy gets. Overpaid Vets on the downside of their career. Whose team backs into the playoffs and get bounced after one or two games. Keep T.O and his shananigans away from Buffalo, we have enough real problems.
-
He is a huge distraction where ever he has been. And what did he accomplish in Dallas? Some nice stats but no playoff win. He went to the Super Bowl once in Philly but even then you can make an arguement T.O wasn't the main reason. He missed the playoffs with an ankle injury. He is selfish, self centered, and loosing his talent year by year. The team that is kicking themselves right now is Cincy. They are exactly the kind of team that would have paid him. But now they are stuck with Coles and his overpaid salary.Hahaha.
-
The line is where you spend the money. Thats why i am glad we did not over pay for Greer. The Bills have more money to spend on the D front seven. And the OL/TE. We have enough corners. Heck we even got one named Corner!!!!!

Guys it no different then any other job situation. They want to see all the offers and meet with all the teams interested in their services. I am sick of hearing " We let him get out of town". What are we suppose to do? The Bills aren't Don Corleone and these guys arent band leaders. They are looking for the right fit for them and their families. Dont we want intelligent guys on our Team? Guys who make wise decisions? Would you not see all the people that are interested in you? Who knows. They may go to the next team meet with them and like it better. Or they may not, and call the Bills up and negotiate a deal. I like the fact the Bills are bringing in the type of guys they are. Solid guys who have shown good ability in the scheme we play. They are going to make one or two more good FA signings.

i dont know what is more sad. The fact that you are acting surprised Greer signed somewhere else. Or the fact that you dont see the logic the Bills used. McKelvin replaces Greer. Who btw took a couple of years to be a good player. We already saw glimpses of what McKelvin can be in his first year. It obviously is a debate on who was better between Greer and McGhee. See the other 20+ posts here. Simon you are a Moderator? Yet know so little about football. Thats what i find scarry. And sad. Greer went where he got a better deal. So far everyone here is upset when someone spends a million or two more on a guy then the Bills offer. If you spend a million or two more on every FA, then you wouldn't have money to resign guys you need. Sorry but i hope your spouse is in charge of the finances in your house. Otherwise guys like me will be footing the bill for your foreclosed house.

Bengals reportedly negotiating with Coles

Rotoworld reporting that Coles is getting close with the Bungholes. God i hope so. -
Sounds like Florence is more of an insurance policy. He is a solid corner. He will help with McKelvins developement process. Also with out sinking a lot of money into Greer it means the door is open on Mcghee being resigned.
-
He sounds like a guy you wait and see about. I mean you go thru FA your draft and who you get signed. Even minicamps. Then you can offer him a 1 year deal for league minimum for his years. He looks like he would be a third down DE only. He is what he is.

June is three years younger and plays outside. Peterson is an inside lb. So unless you are gonna move Poz or play Peterson out of position, it sounds like June is a better fit. Had good season with Indy, but never panned out in Tampa. Maybe could be had for a deal similar to Florences'.

Making Moves and Bringing Players IN finally
atlbillsfan1975 replied to BEeEassyy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like Cato June is a better fit for what Bills need. He plays outside LB is 3 years younger then Peterson. Peterson is more of a MLB. He had good seasons at INDY but was average in Tampa. I think he could be an upgrade over Ellison. Let Ellison go back to being a back up. I would not mind a two- three year deal. Maybe around 3 mil a season with some bonuses. Like the deal with Florence. -
LB Mike Peterson in Buffalo at weeks end
atlbillsfan1975 replied to seq004's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peterson is comming to Atlanta, tomorrow or thursday. Would be surprised if he make it out of here. Mike Smith was his coach down in Jax. And the Falcons need a LB worse then Bills after loosing Brooking and Boley. -
CIN signs RB Cedric Benson
atlbillsfan1975 replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for him. I hope he can continue to act responsibly. Its funny how if you stay out of trouble off the field you can produce better on the field. I am glad to see maybe he realizes this and won't be another talented person who pisses away his talents.
