  1. Glenn played very well last year and proved he could play at this level at a key position. I do not understand why you would gamble on kicking him inside for an unproven college prospect? Not when you have so many other glaring holes. The Bills need an impact guy in the first, whether it be on D or O. By this i mean a playmaker.
  2. If the Bills decide they are going to lose Byrd after the year then yes make the trade. Take the extra 2nd from this year and combine it with your 2nd or 3rd and move back into the first to grab another guy late in that round. Do the same next year. In two years you add 4 first round picks. provided the FO knows what they are doing that is roughly 20% of your starters. these four players will be playing under rookie wages, which is a bonus. This frees you up to sign more of your FA you want to lock up. OR- It has been discussed the 2014 QB class should be a very good one. Lets say the Bills finish 8-8 or worse, they could parlay their 1st, and 2 2nds into the QB they want.
  3. my 'mommie's place' does not have a basement. I also would like to state i think Spikes is a very classy, hard nosed guy, who brought it every play. But to loosely quote a movie ' everyone gets told at some point they can't play the game anymore...it may happen at 18 or 40, but everyone gets told it'. I agree with SJBF to some degree. What Spikes must get paid is tough to pay him. He could land with a team after injuries happen in training camp. I wonder if he does not get signed and he does retire if some team will do the 'sign him for a day' thing? Who would it be? Cincy?
  4. No. He is done. Great guy, would probably make on heck of a LB coach in college then the pro's one day. But he needs to hang them up. I would rather have a young LB like Bradham with potential then out of position because he is learning. Spikes just cant get to where he needs to be anymore.
  5. I do not see it. I like Ogletree a lot better if they decide on a LB from UGA. I think hands down Ogletree goes on to have the better pro career. Ogletree should be a three down LB in the NFL. Those are extremely hard to come by. Heck the Dolphins just gave another ex-UGA LB almost 7 million to be a down backer. Ellerbe had less then a single season of work to show he could play 3 downs. Big gamble on their part. Ogletree i think is less of a gamble at a better price and should start playing day one. By mid season look for him to emerge as a stud.
  6. You are right about choices and such for america. But do we really? I mean how many of us in our 20-40's would pay Social Security if we had a choice? Could we not put it in a safe place that would yield us a greater return in 30+ years? If the NFL is really about taking care of its players it could mandate this. Like i said, i get that for every guy who made some bad decisions there are probably 10 who are living ok from the money they made during the 90's till today. The guys we should feel bad for are the ones who made our dads love the NFL and thus us, the players from the 60's-80's. These guys get crap for pensions. They are also the guys battling the most health issues. That is probably a topic for another thread... soap box away.
  7. I would take him in the fourth for sure. Fifth i would run to the podium. The kid will bounce back from the injury and have some good years in the league. Will he be the next A.P.? Probably not, which is a shame because before the injuries he had the talent to be. Two injuries to the same knee will take its toll at some point.
  8. What is stopping the NFL from forcing players to take at least 10% of their annual salary and invest it in a safe place? escalators could be put in for the more you make the greater percent you put away. Something that could not be touched for at least 10-20 years after you receive your last paycheck? The NFL works outside of many of the laws due to their anti-trust status. The NFL could state the 10% comes out first before agents or any management staff gets their cut. I am pretty sure it would also have beneficial tax ramifications as well for the players. I do feel sorry for these guys, i do. I mean trust me i work 70-80 hours a week and in my lifetime i will never make anywhere near what some of those guys made in one year. I also realize that these guys would not choose to be poor, thus they made some very bad decisions. Usually the worst decision was picking the wrong people to trust. That just stinks. So there you are in your mid 30's or 40's broke and not knowing who you can trust. Does that sound fun?? Lets see who would oppose passing something like this? Which owner or player?
  9. The Bills will not go OG in the first. They needed a LT last year and waited. Same regime, me thinks history repeats itself.
  10. I hear ya. the only thing i will add is that gailey has been widely known for understanding and working with QB talent. If gailey went to Nix and said 'he is my guy' Nix says ok we can lock him up. neither deserves full credit for the mistake. Nix is still the GM for now. i think most everyone here hopes that changes in the near future.
  11. Well until the 'prank phone call'. I get the sense Nix got sold on Fitz by Chan. Maybe they both where dellusional and hoping he was the guy? To me Marrone seems like the guy who is more direct and if you can not cut it he is not going to give you 2 years to prove you can. I am sure he will allow rookies to develope, but he is not going to let aging vets who can not produce hang around.
  12. BB and the Pats take flyers like this almost every offseason. This will be more like ocho cinco and Hayneswoth and less like Seau or Moss.
  13. I agree with you on the tone. Yes it does need to translate into wins at some point soon. I believe having high expectations for yourself is a good thing. You strive for perfection, you understand you will never obtain it, but you settle for greatness. Much been then striving for good and settling for average.
  14. The current regime of Nix, Whaley, and Brandon, had a similar situation last draft. Lost the LT in FA and they took a LT in the second round. Personally i do not think there is going to be much trading back in the first from teams in the top 15. I do however see teams like the Bills trading back late into the first round to get a guy they like and do not want to wait on. But even then i doubt it will be a OL they target but maybe a QB...
  15. So are you saying reporters will follow a guy like Stevie because they know he will say something off the wall and thus they can report it? And if so are these people really reporters or just people who like passing along silly comments? I get it is chicken and egg because the public actually talk about this information. It just is sad that journalism has turned into entertainment instead of information on many levels, not all.
  16. Things players and people use to say to each other who they knew and thus got their sense of humor are now being broadcast by twitter.Personally i do not care at all about twitter and do not follow it one bit. It was designed i believe to allow people access to you and your activities. I do not dislike it nor do i think less of anyone who uses it. It is also my understanding that you must choose to follow someone on twitter. If you do not like what that person says or does, do not follow them. I understand the accountability aspect of your actions and words. Newspapers and reporters just need to make stories up, how sad is it that so much of our journalism has turned into reporting what people have said in a joke? I am sick of it. Our country lost its amazing sense of humor which was one reason we were such an awesome country. Go cover real stories and things that need to be brought to the public's attention.
  17. I do not see them taking a guard at 8. The Bills needed a tackle last year and waited, tackle is viewed as a much more important part of your line then guard. Bills will go impact position player at 8, most likely on D. I bet Pettine has been promised a toy. Best available LB, CB or hybrid DE/OLB who matches up with what Bills think is best value for the 8th spot.
  18. I will also add that the Falcons were not a very good running team at all last year. They really struggled in short yardage. Now Turner was/is done, but many of the times the line got blown up. The Falcons just resigned LT Sam Baker. OG Blalock is in the second year of a 6 yr $38 million dollar deal. Clabo did not play well at all this past year. The media down here was all over him after signing the contract he got last year. One of two things, Clabo comes back to the Falcons after Ryan is signed and Clabo gets a new lower contract. or some team in desperate need of a tackle steps in and signs him. Clabo is an average RT who underperformed last year. No way can he play any other spot on the line and to be honest what the Bills have now is comp to what Clabo played like last year, if not better.
  19. I still want to see what Jax does. If Caldwell passes then i would like to see the Bills wait. I agree with the trade back into the first round by some of the teams picking early in the second.
  20. Great analogy. Why Nobis is not in the HOF is simply because he played for terrible Falcons teams. He was every bit as good as many of the other great LBs from the 60's. If they can keep guys out of the hall of fame for questionable off field things, you should put some in for just the opposite. And Spielman had very good numbers too.
  21. excellent point. Who knows though we may see a trend of one year deals for guys over 30. If teams do stick together to this approach it would be better for the teams. Guys like John Abraham may be forced to keep making one year deals and keep proving for the next 2 years or so they deserve them....
  22. You wonder why guys like him speak to the media. Most times Peters opens his mouth he inserts his foot. If i was one of his teammates your darn right i would be upset by this. He basically told them they where not worth his effort. He said he was 100% since January. So he was what in December? 90%. Most guys who play in the NFL that you never play at 100% after the first few weeks. you are always nicked up to some degree. if nothing else Peters showed he is a me first guy...again. I know this sounds bad but IF he does not change his ways he sounds like the type of guy who will have a tough time once football is done.
  23. I keep hearing this our Oline was not very good last year. You guys must have been watching something i was not. I hear about how Chan schemed around to hide how the line was bad. maybe some truth to that. I might contend that he knew what Fit's strengths and weakness' where. It has been well documented and seen that Fitz did not have a powerful arm at all. When Fitz tried to throw it hard he lost a lot of accuracy. Chan might have schemed the way he did ALSO because he knew Fitz could not air out a 20 yd rope consistently. Kolb was sacked 57 times in 15 games while in Arizona. Tell me what QB would look good under that type of pressure?? I think the Bills oline, and running game should allow Kolb the chance to be solid. Is he the long term solution, i have no clue really. But give him the right situation to excel in he just might be. Maybe marrone views some things in Kolb that he likes and can work with. Kold was in N.O. to watch Brees and how he was able to keep evolving his game. I am not saying Kolb is Brees, but i am saying guys who have worked next to players and talent are better to spot something then us.
  24. I think you are exactly right. the NFL is often a league of copy cats. One team does something that works and others try to replicate it. Everyone saw what Seattle did last year. Went out and signed Flynn that could be average to good. The Seahawks then went out and drafted Wilson in the third round. Let the two compete in training camp and see what happens. The Kold move does just what Cosell says, lets Buffalo address one of their other areas of need. Play maker on O or D at pick 8. Then the The Kolb move also means the Bills do not have to get nervous and pick a QB some where in the draft they do not need to. If someone like EJ Manuel is there in the second and the Bills think 'we need to take him now because we had him rated as a mid to late 1st rounder' they do. Or Bray in the third. If those guys go before the Bills pick then so be it. Keep waiting till a QB rated higher then where you pick is available in round 2-4. Take him and let the competition begin.
