Why is no one concerned about this...
atlbillsfan1975 replied to sirebors's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds to me Byrd already had the surgery Harvin is having now. Byrd has been injury free since then. I do not believe the reason the Bills and Byrd have not reached a long term agreement has anything to do with this. -
Why? You can also look at it as this is exactly what the Bills wanted. They forced Byrd to show. He did not want to lose money so he signed and now he has two weeks to get ready. I think you are off base on this one. Who would you rather have on the team besides Byrd against a pass happy Pats team??? No to either. Give me to 2014 2nd and 5th. Bump the 3rd in 2016 to a second in 2015, and we got a deal!! 4 picks in the top 64 picks the next two years. If you draft right, that is how you build a good team!

Look, if this new D goes out and performs and the entire team turns things around becomes a winner, maybe just maybe Byrd comes back. And besides, good players(and i think Byrd is one), always play better knowing they are playing for a contract. You can look at it as the Bills are renting Byrd, but how is that different from any other guy in the NFL? The period of time? Did you think the Bills where renting Anderson last year?

JR, both Troy and Ed are on the wrong side of 30 for a football player, injuries are going to happen more often, not less. Also the way Troy and to some degree Ed play the game, injuries are going to happen. They are physical guys. Troy being 32, but due to his style i think will be missing some games every year of his career from here on out. Right now today, i will take Byrd over either those guys, all things equal for a SEASON. Now if you are talking about one game and everyone is healthy and ready to go. Troy is my safety.
-
I agree. unless JR was meaning that teams did game plan around polamalu and reed and he does not think they do that with Byrd today. I do not see Byrd having the same impact on the game as those two safeties DID in their respective primes. And at the same point Byrd is Troy P and Ed R where way more respected then Byrd is. We can debate why that might be, like the defenses for those teams was better. Honestly right now i think Byrd ads the final piece to the puzzle for this D to go out and be pretty darn good. Lets hope we stay clear of the injury bug for the most part. Byrd should benefit from Pettines style of D. maybe by next offseason he will be seen as the best safety!

Does Goodwin make you rethink the McKelvin deal?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
SJBF you are correct with the pass rush. I will take that a little further but along the same thought process...better coaching in general for Leodis. He has tremendous talent. Lets see what this staff is able to get out of him. I think Leodis will benefit from having a better D staff that knows how to coach. -
Looking at Kolb's passes vs Vikings
atlbillsfan1975 replied to br1ju's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Kolb will be probably the best back up in the league this year. EJ looks comfortable and confident. The team wants EJ in there and that is big. Kolb will be a nice reliever if EJ gets dinged up. Odds are EJ may miss part or an entire game or two this year. Between Kolb and EJ the Bills are still spending less then half what teams like Atl, NE, Denver, NO, Dallas, GB, and Balt are for QB play. I am sure i am missing a few other high priced QB teams. My point is even if Kolb rides the pine i like having him come in as a band aide till EJ gets healthy. The better Kolb looks in preseason the better it is for the Bills. EJ is still the starter when healthy. -
Stevie says he's back in action this week
atlbillsfan1975 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes sense since this is the 'dress rehersal' game. He will get to work with the ones for the first half. Even if Kolb is throwing the ball it still is beneficial for Stevie to get some game speed action before week one and the Pats. I doubt Stevie will play much if any in the final preseason game. -
Not force the hand. Look i think he will be back and back with out any concessions by the Bills. They will tag him again next offseason if they want to. Parker and Byrd will reside themselves to the fact that the Bills control Byrds destiny for the next two years and be done with it.

Rogers after two practice games
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. You can not sneak him. He will either be on the Bills active roster or on another team's who needs a WR so bad....NE? He goes to NE and becomes Brady's golden boy for the next 5 years. They set single season records for yards and touchdowns. OR maybe there is a reason why Rogers dropped to an Undrafted Free Agent. Maybe the same intellect which caused him to get kicked out of Tenn. is hampering him from picking up the play book and/or his maturity level is not where it needs to be. Honestly it has to be one or the other. Rogers has the talent, it must be attitude or intelligence. There is no other reason to not be playing him. -
the more guys like Hughes and Dowtin and the rest of the D contribute the more it helps the Bills/ hurts leverage Parker has. If i am Whaley i send Parker a note, OUR D is looking good.

Leslie Frazier upset at Bills coaches
atlbillsfan1975 replied to The Helmet of's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like sour grapes from a coach who knows he is out if he does not make the playoffs. Also he just watched his QB and line look pretty bad, and thus hurting his chances for above. Yes, Peterson did not play, so we need to all remember that. But honesty to think Peterson will go for 2500 yds again this year is not realistic. History proves it. Peterson is a speciman we have not seen, but i still think he comes up short of 2000yds this year. Which means out goes Frazier because Ponder is not taking them to the playoffs. Pressure i son Frazier and it appears he is cracking some. -
Steven A, does a pretty good politician in his commentary. Now Skip comes right out and says it was 'horrendous'. Psst Skip, no one pays much attention to the Bills. I mean honestly to say there would be scrutiny on EJ is just crazy. Yes he was the first qb taken. But it was at 16 and it was to maybe the smallest market team besides the Jags. The only way EJ gets picked apart is if he does or says something wrong off the field... I mean to me Gabbert has not gotten really 'killed' for his bad play and he was the SECOND PICK. Now if he was the second pick and went to the Giants or Jets or Dallas, wow! Would that pick be ridiculed. To me the best place for a smart and mature guy with a bunch of talent to go would be Buffalo. I also think the first round was a good place for him. He can handle the pressure it appears, so picking him in the first just ads to his confidence. And yes i as well as many of you really just care about how EJ does when he steps between the lines. then all this talk is done.

I have no clue about the first five games or the rest of the schedule. If i had to chose between begining strong or finishing strong I would love to see the Bills finish strong. To me this shows more about your team then starting strong. By this i mean, film is so important to coaches. After week 6 or so tendencies will begin to show for Buffalo like any other team. It is at that point it becomes even more about raw talent. Coaching always matters. Coaches need to keep the team focused. I do not want to see any blow out losses like the past two years, because to me that means coaches are losing the team. It also means the coaches are not focusing the players and calling a good game. The talent from the best guy on your squad to the worst guy is not as big as we may think. Just like the overall talent on one team to another is not some huge difference.

Other teams Training Camp injuries
atlbillsfan1975 replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it makes you wonder if shortening the amount of contact and practices is really beneficial? It seems that injuries are becoming more and more not less... If someone has stats to refute, please share? -
I was saying this about the Pats for a few years. Then Gronk and Hernandez showed up. I really do believe Brady is great and makes his ENTIRE team better. God, i hate typing that. I hope this is the year age catches up with them. Till i see it i will not believe it. We as Bills fans have to hope the Bills get better, not the Pats get worse.
-
What you say was true about him in Seattle. However i believe Astro has been at most every practice. I bet he is making his assumption on what he has witnessed recently. If so then that will either mean some of the younger(cheaper guys) are playing good. OR Branch has not shown up.

Bills to win AFC East +1200?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Wazzu Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
are you a Bills and Braves fan too? The 90's was tough except for the 95 Bravos. -
I hear ya but man there was no way the Colts could have done anything else. Not to mention i think with Luck they will be just fine for years to come.

It seems like Irsay is upset that his team looked so bad against the Bills. While he did not say that he probably is thinking it. And Irsay probably said it to his coaches and GM. Oh, and that is what i would tell my team if i was Marrone. Fire up your team anyway you can. Tell your players we are going to piss a lot of people off this year who think we are going to be an 'easy win'.

14 teams tried to sign him. Rogers chose the Bills. I got to believe they will put him on the 53 man roster barring some major incident.
