Green Bay vs KC. With this being the NFL centennial anniversary, throwback to the first SB. -

Are you sure McD didn’t want an extra year? I don’t think either of us really know exactly why it happened the way it did. -

As far as closer teams I will say yes to Mahomes with Andy in KC. Watson will have to wait on another coach and GM for his shot. I think Beane and McDermott had a plan and stuck to it. They weren’t in the market for a QB in 2017. I think they wanted to extra year to build the team more before starting the clock on the rookie QB salary. -

I don’t think I agree totally on the premise that they missed out on their QB. I am sure you are going to say Mahomes or Watson, but neither of those QB’s has won a SB yet. I think that’s Beane and McDermott’s goal. -
Luke Kuechly Interested in Coaching
atlbillsfan1975 replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kuechly had a lot of nice things to say about Tremaine after their practice in preseason. If nothing else have him spend some time with Tremaine on his approach to film study. Kuechly was notorious for logging film time and notes on offensive players, systems, and coaches. -

More and more we are seeing HC hires and then they help with the GM search and ultimate hiring. It has worked for the Bills. Having two people on the same page in regards To philosophy and approach is huge. I at first didn’t totally agree with it but I have come around. Coach comes in an interviews and describes what he wants to run and type of players etc. important for the GM to share the vision and belief, not just be told ‘go find me guys who fit a 3-4 or 4-3 defense’. -

I like your break down. I think CB 2 is going to be addressed short term with KJ and long term with a draft pick. I do like your thought that if the Bills sign KJ to a longer deal, it could indicate him shifting to safety later on. I agree that I think McDermott’s system needs to right players to fit into it. They don’t necessarily need to be big money name players, but players that possess the right attitude and talent. I do think this system needs one ‘shut down’ corner. What do you think are the chances Poyer holds out? We have already seen his wife on SM asking for him to get paid. For me that is never a good sign. I agree one more year of Poyer and Hyde together would be nice, but I get the sense Poyer might not want to wait for a long deal. Hate to have any negative energy in a very tight defensive group. -
Do you believe Ford can’t play right tackle? Or that he would be better at guard? Or that he is never going to be an NFL caliber olineman? This. Do you know how many players have ‘clean up’ surgeries after the season is done? What’s more concerning to me, is our two linemen picks From 2019 are posting pictures on SM, like they are kids getting their tonsils taken out and can’t wait for ice cream. Joke!!

Joe Brady to Panthers as OC

This is big for so many teams. SEC just opened back up a little and the NFC South got a little more complicated. -
We are on the same page?

Close. Hey doc while you are down there...

Agreed. i feel like KJ might come back for another 1-2 year deal. He knows the system, stayed healthy, and hopefully gets himself some recognition next year opposite White for a bigger long term deal. Meanwhile Beane and McDermott have drafted a youngster to step in after KJ leaves. Spain would be my next one. I feel like he won’t get crazy money and really would help with continuity on the line. Beane structuring a three year deal so Bills can get out in a year or two if Ford does need to kick inside.

@Nihilarian there is a lot to unpack there. I appreciate your thoughts and hard work. First let me say there is zero excuses for starting Peterman.? You can look back at posts by me and see I have not been the strongest supporter of Daboll. I was the poster who suggested that maybe a move to the box for Brian would benefit the offense. I think you are discounting some major things. The OL was an entirely new unit basically with only Dawkins being a returning starter. Having played Oline I can tell you that so much of its performance hinges on the 5 pieces acting as one. I think this group will improve more this next season. To your point about adding more pieces only masking the problem of an inferior OC, I would say, ‘what else are the Bills suppose to do with $90m and 9 draft picks?’. Improvements are needed they will always be needed. I don’t think any team has exactly the same 46 active guys for two years in a row, ever. Those 3-4 players added to the offense could make all the difference. Daboll’s playbook is big, it’s been called the most complicated, by Jon Brown. Brown has been on three different teams. Daboll wants to pull from a large playbook so he can scheme to the opponents weaknesses. I like Daboll back for this next year because I really believe Josh will benefit from it. I think this next season the game will slow down even more for Josh and he will feel more comfortable and trust his playmakers. My two cents.

I really do think we see the offense take a big step forward for two main reasons. First, personnel will be added. Second, continuity under what has been described as a complex playbook that changes week to week based off opponents weaknesses. I also like Daboll back for Josh. This will be Josh’s third season under the same system terms and will be big for him moving forward. Basically this is Josh’s third year of playing against NFL caliber defenses verses college where he played with and against below average college talent consistently. Josh will have a solid foundation moving forward after this third season with Daboll. My hope is our offense looks so good a team has to hire Daboll as it’s HC. McDermott finds a good OC and the offense doesn’t skip a beat.
