Person killed at Chiefs game.
John in Jax replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's a more detailed story from a KC outlet. The short story is that the guy accidentally got into the wrong vehicle, then was beaten to a pulp NOT by the vehicle's owner, but by some other guy who was a "tailgater" who was watching the game in the parking lot. Sounds like several people witnessed it too. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/12/04/4668429/death-of-man-at-arrowhead-stadium.html -
Totally agree. And to the guy who thinks that there's no such thing as a culture of losing: you are so very wrong that it's laughable. Psychology.....mental effort/concentration rather than physical skills.....matters greatly in sports. If it didn't, there would be handfuls of pro golfers with similar accomplishments to those of Tiger Woods. In individual sports, obviously, it's easier to see, but it is also a factor in team sports.

Cleveland beat the Bills. The Jags just beat Cleveland. We shall see in two weeks if the Bills can pummel the Jags. I won't be holding my breath.

Person killed at Chiefs game.

Story says they left IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME to go to their car to get something! Say what!? I'm pretty sure once you leave any major sports venue, you're not gonna get back in. -
Agree with all those rational thinkers who realize that Tomlin did this intentionally, and he should be heavily fined. Those arguing the that Tomlin's bush league move had NO impact on the play is laughable. As already stated in here, he stepped to his right to intentionally get CLOSER to JJ, instead of stepping to his left to get out of the way. A TD could have easily been awarded, and Pittsburgh would have NO argument....NONE.

Great game! But what is totally LAME is ESPN showing awful, shaky cell phone videos from orgasmic Auburn fans this morning on their air. STOP IT! LOL

Dan Dierdorf to Retire from CBS after the Season
John in Jax replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So after reading some more opinions about this matter, it remains crystal clear that "different strokes for different folks" rules the day. Some here have said that Gruden is the "absolute worst." So the NFL & ESPN keep employing the "worst" color man in the business for their premiere showcase, Monday Night Football!? WHY!? LOL I'm with Buffalo Barbarian above.....I watch for the game & the teams playing, and rarely care and/or pay attention to what the announcers are saying. A "good" announcing team isn't going to make me watch the Jags vs. the Falcons. Thinking logically, and seeing that Dierdorf has been employed for so many years, I guess the people in charge thought he was more often good, than bad. I would surely think that if they got enough complaints and negative feedback on the work he was doing, they would have replaced him. OR OTOH MAYBE, the bosses think like me, and realize it just doesn't matter who's calling the games, so they hire whoever costs the least. -

I'm curious, and serious. For anybody that has closely watched NFL football for at least 3 years...so that would be at least 100 games, and probably some ESPN or NFL Network pre-game and/or post-game shows (and maybe some college games too)......is there anything at all you could possibly see on the field which would leave you clueless at to what happened? I mean, I have to assume that most diehard football fans have been watching since their early teens, and if you pay any attention at all, you surely know what's going on. Sure there are always some people who are "new" to the game, but I would think those are mostly women and/or released prison inmates who had no access to NFL games. And I'm guessing that most women, or other "casual" fans, don't really care to learn the intricacies of the game. -

I guess peoples' liking of NFL color announcers runs along the same line as peoples' liking of: pizza, BBQ sauce, spaghetti sauce, beer, car color, music, et. al....which is that EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN TASTES & THEIR OWN LIKES! 'Murica, land of the free, home of the brave! ;-) -
MNF Thread - Cam Newton vs. Tom Brady
John in Jax replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another angle is that what if the guy who intercepted it would have blown the pic, and the ball bounces off him and goes up in the air, ripe for Gronk to just reel it in.....but because LK is totally interfering with him, of course there's no chance for him to do that. You CAN'T just look at what happened AFTERWARDS and say, well, the guy intercepted it, so Gronk had no chance on it. That logic would basically make ALL PI calls go away, because you COULD rationalize that "well, even though the WR was interfered with, there's no guarantee that he would have caught the ball anyway. You know, WRs sometimes do DROP the ball even when they're wide open." LOL I'm done here, the science and logic is on my side....LK & the Panthers are REAL lucky to have that flag picked up. Again, glad the Pats got boned; they deserve it! -

First off, I'm glad as heck that the Pats got boned, but right is right and wrong is wrong. Secondly, you might want to watch ESPN Sportscenter sometime today, and look for the "Sports Science" segment they did on this play, BECAUSE IT COMPLETELY DISPELS YOUR OPINIONS ABOVE. The statement that "Kuechly wasn't doing anything to interfer (sic) with him besides MAYBE some hand jousting" is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read anywhere, at anytime. Kuechly's BACK was to the QB, and he had NO IDEA that the ball was coming in, while Gronk saw the ball, put on the brakes, and was trying to come back for the ball (the Sports Science segment shows you this). To try and say that Kuechly's 250-lb+ body, moving toward the end line, WITH BOTH ARMS WRAPPED AROUND Gronk, did not impede Gronk is laughable and ridiculous. Also, I'm sure you've probably seen the replay that ESPN has been running, where they put the "bullseye" graphic on the turf where Gronk is first contacted by Kuechly, then a second later, they put the "bullseye" graphic where the DB intercepts the ball, and the two bullseyes are about ONE YARD apart. Finally, I will agree that PI is rarely called on a last play which is a "Hail Mary", but this wasn't a Hail Mary, and I've seen plenty of last play PI calls over the years. -

What pure BS. They have NEVER looked to see where a ball lands (in the field of play), and then determined that a PI call should be rescinded. They call PI ALL day & ALL night as long as the pass is anywhere near the receiver; seems like within about 10 yards. In this case, had the pass not been intercepted, it would have easily been catchable for Gronk, if he wasn't being held and pushed back by Keukly. -

John in Jax replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally agree with this. Also would like to add that they call PI ALL day long when the ball lands 5-10 yards away from the intended receiver. In the very RARE instance when they pick up the flag for PI because of the ball being deemed "uncatchable", the ball lands 10+ yards away, or in these cases, usually the ball lands way out of bounds, and truly is uncatchable for anyone. One more thing is that some analysts were noting today that if you take the guy who intercepted it out of the picture, the ball would have hit Kookly (sp?) in the back of the legs. Ssssooo, using the latter, if Kookly hadn't face-blocked, bear-hugged, and most importantly, PUSHED Gronk back toward the end line, of course Gronk would have had ample opportunity to make the catch. All Kookly needed to do was NOT raise his arms and put them around Gronk.....him just being there in the way would have prevented Gronk from going back to the ball. ALTHOUGH, we very often see receivers come back to the ball, on an underthrown ball, and they run right through the DB, and then the DB is indeed called for PI, so there's that too. Finally, PI calls & Holding calls drive me crazy, because they are so subjective and so inconsistent with how & when they are called. I really wish they would make PI just a 10 or 15 yard penalty, because there's never any guarantee the guy would catch the ball anyway. -

Last night brought back memories of the Seatlle-GB game last year. Twas very entertaining to say the least. Very happy that the Pats, for once, got the short end of the stick! -
I'm about to have a stroke because I am so impressed that the OP posted a message which is grammatically correct! And I apologize to all SW posters for (my) thinking that you are ignorant because you don't know the difference between: to & too, are & our, there & their & they're, your & you're, were & where & we're, and my favorite, lose & loose. LOL ETA: affect & effect, accept & except, now & know! LOL

Doug, we still can't wear our stuff
John in Jax replied to Tu-Toned's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have TWO pairs of Bills Zubaz pants, and my wife has assured me that if I ever choose to don them, she will not be seen in public with me. LOL I will wear them again some day though, just waiting for the right time. Hell, if the NFL didn't have such strict, asinine rules for bringing backpacks, bags, fanny packs, etc. into the stadium, I'd probably wear a pair to the Bills-Jags game coming up in December. -

Just noticed that Ridley (Pats RB) is wearing shoes with the UnderArmour logo clearly showing on them. Is that allowed? I thought that only Nike gear is allowed?....just curious. -

I will be very surprised if the Panthers win this game. Hear a lot of folks saying, "but the Panthers defense is just awesome." Uh huh. Sounds like the same thing people were saying about the Chiefs defense yesterday, and how they were going to stop P. Manning......how'd that work out? LOL Pats by 10. -
How do you ignore Carpenter's production for Hopkins?
John in Jax replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was that the wind taking it, or was that just a rotten shank? It looked liked one of my errant 5-iron shots! LOL It seemed like everything else (long passes, punts, other FGs) that went in that direction was not affected by the wind too much (maybe EJ's TD pass to Graham was, although all year long EJ has been short on a lot of his long passes, so I wasn't sure). -

Looks like it happened at the start of the 2nd qtr. Since I live far away from Buffalo, and haven't attended a game at the Ralph in a long while, isn't being drunk at the start of the 2nd qtr. a little early for that kind of display? -
For those of you who gave up on EJ.....

Agree with both posts above. Like it or not, they're accurate and factual. Realist here; sorry. Now, I thoroughly enjoyed the W today, and it was fun being a Bills fan!
