  1. I think Beane sees old guys who can still play as being undervalued by the competition.
  2. whos to say the one that was blocked was not martins fault. Maybe he held it at too upright an angle causing the kicker to kick it too low. Pass.
  3. Giants are not about to neglect special teams to sign Hodgjns. Special teams are the easiest way to move up from the league bottom.
  4. It’s unfathomable how he and Stevenson could be drafted in the same range.
  5. Kickers do NOT want to play for good teams. They want to make $2M-$4M a year in complete obscurity without anyone noticing for as long as possible and they never want to be the cause of a loss anyone cares about. They especially like indoor stadiums where they can rack up stats.
  6. Falcons, Jets, and maybe Miami, wk3+, Giants wk2+ as well. That’s the only explanation, that he likes the backup job. Billy Volek is the only other QB I can recall who favored being a backup over starter opportunities.
  7. Neil had a good game Friday but there is no way he has any trade value
  8. I’d be surprised if the Colts don’t try to upgrade from Haack. That’s at least one competitor for the available punters.
  9. Howard’s legs are shot. He can’t plant and cut, and he’s rounding off all his routes. There is no sudden-ness. He’s trying but his legs just don’t work anymore.
  10. Josh only at 13. If he ever needed a chip on his shoulder.
  11. Helped set the league record for number of Matts to punt for one team in a single preseason. Unlikely to ever be broken.
  12. Haack is a below average punter, one of the worst in the league. Based on this thread there are 8-12 teams with multiple punters competing. Indy is likely in the market to upgrade Haack from this pool of candidates, so Haack may be available if he’s wanted. Because Haack is a lower tier punter, there is still hope to upgrade this position significantly in spite of everything.
  13. Marv (zero hang time) Bateman: Buffalo BillsEdit On November 13, 1974, the Buffalo Bills signed him as a free agent to replace Spike Jones.[6] He led the NFL two years in a row in net yards per punt. In 1976, he led the NFL in punting average (42.8 yards), but his net average was only 28.7 yards, although he had a 78-yard punt, which still stands as the longest punt in team history. On August 24, 1978, he was released after being passed on the depth chart by Rusty Jackson.[7]
  14. I’ve wondered if the current stadium being half underground has made the ridiculous wind currents even worse than they would have been. I’m not happy about the pinhole roof - nothing beats the open sky - but I’m glad we likely won’t see crazy wind games that are not real football.
  15. Rodgers and Mahomes became too “locked in” to their number ones. They are better quarterbacks than to have let that happen and their organizations recognized that their offensives were not optimized by the quarterback locking on to the number one. Josh does not have the weakness of locking on to his number one. He’s led many fading receivers on their last NFL legs - Brown, Beasley, Sanders - to outstanding statistical seasons by always spreading the ball around to the weakest coverage and not locking in to his number one.
  16. If you want a tight end who is really not a tight end but a skilled big receiver, just play Hodgins.
  17. All that I have ever asked for is one Super Bowl victory sometime before the day I die. No, I don’t think that is too much.
  18. we are talking about a franchise that recently had David Sills on the active roster
  19. Tommy Sweeney had many chances last year to show his worth but instead showed his physical limitations.
  20. If this is a stashing congrats to Foster for extending his career.
  21. Haack put two perfect kicks on tape in the preseason and applied needed pressure on Araiza. Hopefully he’s picked up and the organization looks good for helping out both kickers. The front office realizes Araiza could literally cost us a game or two this year, but it’s worth the risk for the potential rewards over the next decade.
  22. I’m glad they didn’t vote Jordan and Micah in as one person, “Number 50, Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde”. They like to do that in these ranking shows sometimes.
  23. Need to kneel down to get Araiza out there.
  24. I would go wk 2 when the Bills are playing in Buffalo.
  25. I think Reich is a great coach and was working miracles with Wentz last year until the end. But Matt Ryan looked shockingly weak and old on Saturday and Foles is not any better. I could see a 7-10 year for the Colts event though they are stacked in many positions.
