  1. Madden’s Raiders in 1976 had a chance late in the season to retain the #1 seed and jettison the Steelers from playoffs. The two time defending champion Steelers were the hottest team in NFL history at the time, yielding a total of 28 points over 9 games. All Madden needed to do was lose to the Bengals and the Steelers would be gone. Instead Madden blew out the Bengals and then the Steelers in the AFC championship game. The point is, you play to win the game.
  2. Interesting that three of those worst games were at Hymark stadium which is notoriously tough to throw in, even when the weather seems OK. In addition to the winds, there used to be a huge crown on the field as well but I think they softened it.
  3. I wanted them to feed 26 all game after that play. He’s ready now.
  4. I’m sorry Kumerow looked like a non-athlete on his dropped TD. He only made it look like a tough catch by having no athletic ability to move his body close to the right position.
  5. Very strange it seems we’ve been gashed all year on D. Yet, we are closing in on #1 overall for the year with zero pro bowlers. Not top 5. Number 1. That should be enough to get Frazier a HC job if we don’t go out getting totally gashed in the playoffs.
  6. correct. I remember not even taking him seriously even after the first Super Bowl win. We would constantly throw up ducks into the secondary from 2001-2003. He really worked on his lower body motion for more power on his throws. Aside from that it’s very strange that he seemed to always get stronger the older he got.
  7. You would think that every punter ought to be able to at least kick an extra point and be 50 percent from inside 35. You are kicking footballs every day…on a football field…The goal posts are right there.
  8. He’s not in the stratosphere of josh Allen, but like a tannehill or cousins, he’s just good enough that you have to pay him. I love the fact that we will be always be better, for more than the next decade, than teams that have to pay this level of quarterback.
  9. My sense is that Sanders was headed for a healthy scratch in this game and was offered the option to stay injured.
  10. The biggest thing is that Gabe gets better and better the more reps he gets during the game.
  11. Yesterday made me think they ought to have an emergency kicker in the stands every game like an emergency goalie in hockey.
  12. Like most I have seen enough of Daboll and hope he goes unless a miracle happens and they get back to the final 4 (my current benchmark for a successful season). In the real world I think his jettison number is 8 wins. He’s safe at 10 wins and a one and done playoff appearance. He could possibly hang on as Bills OC with a 9-8 season no playoffs.
  13. Not a penalty first because the refs tend to swallow the whistle when it’s essentially the last play. Second the defender’s head is swiveled to the ball (unlike the Wallace play). Defender is always permitted more leeway when that happens.
  14. I agree. We also played our best half of football of the year on the road against the Super Bowl champs and we certainly will need to win 3 straight on the road to get to LA. Going on the road can be a positive as it avoids a crazy wind game like we have seen which neutralizes our significant advantage at QB.
  15. The league loves him and he’s getting Brady calls. I have no problem with that.
  16. Couldn’t run or stop the run in a 50mpw wind game. Yet, still had a chance to win because of Allen. The team seems to be waiting around doing nothing to see if he can win every game all by himself.
  17. Will help with the now unfortunately-overpaid CB1 position.
  18. I LOVE the fact Tua is looking just good enough to stick around. That is exactly the kind of production we need from him to assure that there is no risk of them ever landing anyone approaching Allen’s level.
  19. Am I missing something. I thought the pass pro was really struggling in the first half. Josh had someone in his face instantly every play.
  20. He’s famous for one catch. As time has passed, we have all seen dozens of clips of all levels of receivers including high schoolers making the same catch. It was all the new gloves the receivers are wearing now.
  21. Norwood’s 44 yarder to clinch the ‘91 AFC championship game against the Broncos, which felt at least as long as 64 yards. To this day I’m still shocked he actually managed to make that kick.
