SportsCenter's quick AFC East preview
VOR replied to LongLiveRalph's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Okay, Jones proved to be washed-up, despite rushing for 1,119 yards. Who did they get to replace him? And pre-emptively, assuming you provide a name, who's to say the new RB won't be a disappointment as well? I said that I wasn't overly enthused by the way Edwards finished the season, but it wasn't like he was playing in ideal conditions, and he was still a rookie, not a 2nd year player like Clemens. Will Clemens improve? Will Edwards? Hmmmm. Cotchery looks like a good WR who will only get better. Coles missed a lot of time due to injury. He may be on the downswing since he'll be entering his 9th season. But again, who did the Jets get to replace him? And the Bills had little opposite Evans last year, hence the reason they drafted Hardy (and Johnson). Ever heard that Vilma was traded to the Saints. not to mention he was a disappointment for the Jets in their 3-4 scheme? Again who replaces him? Miller is strictly a KO return man. BFD. The Bills have had 2 of the top return men in the game the past few years and it didn't lead to significantly more wins. LMAO @ Woody, Franks, and Chatman. They're all backups. Faneca and Richardson were good pickups, but they could also end-up like Jones, i.e. washed-up, and one has to wonder why their former teams were willing to part with them. And what's the difference between Pace, who had a decent year at (S)LB, not DE which was his previous position, and Mitchell? What I've provided you in my last 2 posts are arguments that you've used to trash the Bills' off-season pickups. So don't make me LOL talking about how I/we are the ones who are biased. -

LOL! Like you overrate Reggie Torbor? Tell me, what is it about Torbor that impresses you? The guy has started 2 more games in his 4-year career than Mitchell started last year alone, while last year Torbor did almost nothing. Yet you mention him as an upgrade for the Fins? You might want to take a look at what Mitchell did in the playoffs as well. And I think we can agree that given his experience and size, he's at worst a significant upgrade over Ellison. Sorry but I never said the Fins didn't improve. I said that your claim that they improved more than the Bills was unfounded, which it is. What's funny is that you talk about needing proof that the Bills have improved, and then whip-out a rookie, 2 backup-quality players, and an OG who is coming off a shoulder injury as reasons why the Fins have improved more than the Bills. Yet you fail to mention their rookie head coach who was a former OL coach, all new coaches which means new terminology, a likely switch to the 3-4 without the personnel to do it, and possibly losing Jason Taylor. And they lost the leader of their defense over the off-season in Zach Thomas. The Bills OTOH jettisoned an OC who wouldn't let the QB's audible and whose offensive schemes were so predictably bad that opposing DC's knew what they were going to run most of the time. They will also be getting Poz and Simpson back on defense, added Stroud, Johnson, and Mitchell to the defense, and drafted McKelvin and Hardy, while losing no one important. I have no qualms here. I hope Johnson wins the numbers game and becomes a stud for the Bills. But his college production means little to me, other than giving me reason for hope. -
I don't think he can join an NFL roster until next year. But if he continues to play well and keeps his nose clean, he'll be back in the NFL and with a better contract than he would have gotten as an UDFA.

I've heard rumors that the 2009 Prius will get close to 100 MPG. Hopefully that's true.

They could install Long at QB for all I care. Until he proves he won't get his QB (whoever it may be, as if it matters) killed, it means nothing. And "a fraction of the cost?" Bwahahahaha! Did you happen to SEE the contract Jake Long got (6 years, $57.5M)? All before he ever played a down of football? Carey's making $2.2M a year. Smiley was signed for $5M a year. Carry on, indeed. -

Yes the Dols had problems, namely a rookie HC. But they'll have a rookie HC again this year and ALL new coaches versus last year where most of their coaches were the same. And they had Brown for 7 games and lost them all. And what about if Taylor sits out or is traded? What were the problems with the Jets, again? Besides having had to play a real schedule last year versus a creampuff one the year before? -

Mitchell didn't "suck" with the Chefs, although he was nothing great; but he played MLB for them. Last year he played WLB for the Gints and played exceptionally well and was instrumental in their march to the SB, not to mention during the SB. They key here is his position switch between playing for the Chefs versus the Gints and his play LAST year at a new position, the one he'll play for the Bills. But at worst he'll be a significant upgrade over Ellison. Torbor has been playing for the same team for 4 years at the same position, and is still nothing. Maybe he'll be something, but that's a far greater stretch than expecting Mitchell to play well. Johnson will be a rotational guy, like Starks has mostly been. Again the key addition was Stroud, who you conveniently choose to ignore. So there's a good chance that Jake Long will be a bust, just like Hardy might be? Fine. At least we're getting a little consistency here. I talk about Hardy in the other thread so I won't rehash it here. As for Johnson, I think he's got potential. But as a 7th rounder behind guys like Evans, Hardy, Reed, and Parrish, I don't see him getting much PT. He's fighting a numbers game, where he was drafted, and because he's a rookie. I'm just being realistic here. -
I'm not expecting anything more out of Hardy than to be the #2 WR and to draw coverage away from Evans. With 4.45 speed (that's "limited?" ), a 6.84 3-cone, a 4.20 short shuttle, and a 37" VJ, at 6'6" and 220#, it's not like teams can simplistically ignore him, much less put a LB'er (LOL!) on him. Route running will come in time. And even if he did have "limited" speed, you want your #2 to be a big possession-type WR. So why focus on speed? As for no other threats, there's a RB and there's a slot receiver named Reed. That's what we know of so far.

Oh, the irony! With you it's everyone the Bills sign sucks and everyone that is signed by other teams is great. Every post I've ever read by you is trashing one Bills player after another and/or includes some snide comment. Yet you want to be taken seriously when you offer it forth? Case in point, you've been doubting the difference Stroud, Mitchell, Johnson, and Hardy will make, yet you whip out Jake Long, who looks like he has a greater chance of being Tony Mandarich than Tony Boselli? Not to mention he'll be playing RT initially, not LT, and might not ever have the skill to play LT, despite being the 1st overall pick? As for the other guys you mentioned, Starks was their only addition to their lousy DT rotation, and he only started 12 games out of his last 30. So at best he's comparable to Johnson, much less Stroud who was the Bills' big DT acquisition, but whose health/contribution you doubt. And Torbor, a guy who had started 18 games out of 61 with the Giants and just 8 of his last 32, is just as good as Mitchell? Okay, it's a theory. Smiley might be a good addition for them...if he can recover from his injury (hmmmm). But what about their QB situation? Do they have a Tony Romo waiting in the wings? And nevermind that the Dols may be going to a 3-4 defense, while having new coaches throughout the team, which means new plays and new terminology. Sure odds are that they win more than the ONE game they won last year, but how many wins would you be willing to lay money on them winning? I think you're focusing on the "clearly" better part a little too much. Just as long as the Bills are "barely" better and sweep or win the majority of games against them as they've done for the better part of the decade, I'll be fine with that. Playing any division rival is tough because the teams know each other so well. But to think the Bills, a better team than either of those 2 teams last year despite all the injuries and a rookie QB and RB, didn't at least keep pace with them is shortsighted. -
krazycat's analysis/expectations for Hardy based on his college performance would be apropos if he were expected to be a #1 WR for the Bills. He isn't.

They have? And this is based on...? Throw in the Jets if you want as well. -
And what about 2006? What was the difference?
-
Shouldn't a MILF have a kid? Or is it now a generic term for a hot older woman? And what is the age minimum? Is it 30 years old? 35?
-
Not to mention losing Hargrove for the first 4 games and Denney for the first 9 games hurt the DE rotation and forced Schobel to play more.
-
If only the world always acted like a video camera were pointed at them...
-
I'd say there is a 0% chance that it was caused by Lynch being impaired by alcohol. It's not like he swerved to avoid hitting her and couldn't because he couldn't control his actions. And if he were that drunk, chances are he wouldn't have made it home safely.
-
LOL! For the guy talking about the court of public opinion, you sure are hypocritical. Again the Bills have no problem giving early extensions to Schobel and Butler, but with Evans and Peters it's taking time and both players are sitting out as a result. Pay the men!
-
It doesn't matter what it appears to me. If it appears that way to Peters...
-
That's how it appears. The first excuse was that he had 3 years left on his deal. Well so did Schobel. Then it was "he was an UDFA who should be thankful to the Bills..." And then they give Butler almost as much money, despite him not being near the level of Peters. The Bills will have to pay Peters sooner or later. And with salaries skyrocketing annually, giving him a new deal now versus waiting a year might not produce a substantial increase in the total money he gets. And the longer they wait to give it to him, the less happy he'll be.
-
Not better than obie wan he doesn't.
-
The answer you have been searching for but so far been unable to admit is "no, I don't have any evidence that Marshawn Lynch was drinking that night, much less driving drunk." When there is evidence he was drunk, I'll change my mind.
-
What has he done to not deserve such a benefit of the doubt? Oh yes that's right, he's cheap and brings his own alcohol into bars. Nevermind that he's never been arrested in his life and has a clean driving record. Nevermind that there haven't been any reports of him being publicly drunk, much less driving while imparied. And in this unfortunate instance, the evidence wholly supports that he didn't see the woman and didn't know he hit her. Regardless of whether he was drunk or not. But again, there is no evidence of that at all, just assumptions. Look, you can believe what you want. This is a free country. But when you start passing-off statements based on nothing as fact, you can't expect to be taken seriously. In this country, you need to prove what you allege because while anyone can make an allegation, it's that pesky issue of proving it that's the hard part. The DA is satisfied with the case. If you aren't, that's your problem.
-
I disagree. Now that they've given Butler almost $3M a year, they HAVE to redo Peters' deal. Butler was a 5th round pick, which isn't too far off from an UDFA. And Butler had a couple years left being owned by the Bills seeing as how he'll be a 3rd year player, meaning EFA after the season, then RFA the following year. Not redoing Peters' deal would be unconscionable and would smack of racism, i.e. they'll do it for the white players.
-
It sounds like you believe he didn't know he hit her. If that's correct, what mistakes did he make, outside of the statement prepared by his lawyer?
