Buffalo is the #6 seed @LA, LV, or IND.

KC or TN are the 7 seed.

    NE is somewhere in there

All good weather or dome games.

Win and play one of the other 2 teams on the road after they win their round 1 game. Win and play the remaining team on the road after they win 2 playoff games.

3 warm weather/dome games. That's what this team has demonstrated it needs, unfortunately. Super Bowl is guaranteed good weather... so we'd have a shot.

I no longer think the 1st round bye is important to this team... at least not as much as good weather for GameDay.

I still think we make the playoffs, but weather officially scares me.

TBH, not making the playoffs , which will represent a historic collapse , may be the best for this teams long term future. We are talent deficient along the lines, rb position , and a true edge rusher.   We have no ability to run and we can’t stop the run. We are not advancing with a team that has no ability to win from behind. By not making the playoffs we draft higher, and I think it forces mcds hand to change the o coordinator to someone who csn design a running attack in ADDITION to making the most of Josh’s talents!   A change is needed. The o is stagnant or even worse than last year. Losing to a rookie Qb at home in December who threw 3 passes is inexcusable!   Next week will probably be a significant beat down by Brady. If we don’t want to waste our talented QB, we need new creativity

10 points at home will e a loss almost always. Weather or not, that was an embarrassing performance and historical type of loss. The coaching was difficult to explain or rationalize.    Actually , missing the playoffs may force some changes that are good in the long run !  Love the Bills, but this team has big issues, had regressed and we need to finally get answers to fix this.

We will come to play. We beat anyone when motivated.

Doesn’t really seem that simple.  You’re telling me we were not motivated on opening day against the Steelers?  Why wouldn’t we have been motivated that day?  Why would we no be motivated against Indy with Reich, one of  our own, for a home game to keep us on top of the EAST?  Ok , I would hope they actually did take Jax for granted because it was a terrible loss and again shows the importance of supposedly unimportant games.  Then finally the Titans , after their coach tries to rerun the m8sic city miracle , did we just neck,e disinterested ?  That game , again I would hope , we just got unlucky with Josh slipping but also we got run over and thru and we couldn’t muster one stop with them having totally destroyed us the prior year.  Not motivated for revenge tho I guess?

I am just going by what I can see on YouTube as I live in Jax , fl, but the weather reallu seems like it will ne an issue , one way of the other.  I was hoping I would see the team practicing outdoors , getting used to the conditions and wind while trying to figure out what they can do best on offense in that stadium given the weather , but all I have seen is guys doing an indoors practice ,joking around quite a bit. While I know  I only see what they allow to be shown ,the reporting on the practices said things were more business like after the jags loss.   Just asking , ( maybe someone from there can let me know if they ARE doing outdoor practice as well) is practicing In The comfortable indoor facility getting you acclimated and ready for Monday night?  I hope they really are getting reps outside and trying to make our stadium an advantage , which it hasn’t been in a dominant way this year!

I can almost guarantee the Pats are focused having the #1 seed In their own destiny, , confident , and coached by a coach that had owned Mcd until last year ( and really they could have won the first game if not for Cam).   The Pats players on D I have seen recently interviewed ( like van nye , McCourty and others) are  are saying how the D is really working well together and playing intelligently with lack of things like dumb penalties, and are talking about how they are playing Good team defense and have confidence in the coaches game to game adjustments as they are very capable of doing different things on D every week. I have never heard anything about  that type of “ defensive adjustments” when our players are talking about our d ( when did we last adjust or come out of our classic 4-2-5?) ! This week unfortunately they are very focused on how to step up to help lessen the loss of white.  From the “ OUTSIDE” , The Pats are confident and “ ascending “ at the right time , while we are more in the recovering from a major loss situation and we are seemingly being  distracted on how the weather is probably going to be a negative influence on our ability to run our typical passing offense.

I hope you are on target about this team finally showing up in a critical game  this season being focused and motivated.  IMHO, it comes down to coaching at this point because we have the talent to compete and win.  Hopefully we see a game and play with few stupid pre snap penalties , few penalties that provide an extra possession after we have stopped them ( personal fouls, defensive holding ), and focused special teams ( can we stop the stupid short kickoffs that have almost never worked ) as field position will be critical in this tough match up.  The big question is can Mcd actually deliver a FOCUSED, INTENSE team, WHEN SO MUCH is on the line, or should we lose will we once more hear the typical “ it’s just one game “ , “ all our goals are still in front of us “ , “ Josh, and we all have plays we want back” cliche filled speech after another disappointing home loss!?
We know Belicheck has the team focused as his team comes in leading the East and on a 6 game winning streak.   If the Bills  can’t show up MOTIVATED  at home on Monday night football ,  and play like you have a real home field  advantage , then there is little hope this team is significant this year and it really would signify it’s time for Beane to begin thinking about solutions for the future! For example, changes  in the coordinators and position coaches need consideration if they want to get to the next level to be a true SB competitor.

I can agree we can beat any team when motivated, IF MOTIVATION MEANS showing up confident , physical ' and prepared to beat a team that is coming in as “THE TEAM” everyone outside Buffalo expects to dominate in this game, which is CRAZY given they are coming to Buff with a ROOKIE QB!   If we lose at home with a more physicAlly dominant QB, the whole process this team has been built on would look flawed, and the plan to “play at championship level” would need re-evaluation and perhaps different  implementation, starting with FA , the draft , and team building. I really hope Mcd coaches his way to a home win and then the focus really can be on the “ next biggest” game! However, we have to remain realistic , a loss and we are suddenly back to being an “IN THE HUNT” type of team. It’s less than 24 hours away and that means a lot of peoples psyches are in a fragile situation!  Man, I wish we had showed motivation against Pittsburgh and Jax!  😊😉

I just went to YouTube for Chris Simms and Mike Florio’s preview of the Pats at Bills game

Geeze Wheeze I learned that we might as well not show up.  We can’t run the ball, we’re too one dimensional on Offense.  We get all worried when we have to stop the run and then we can’t stop the pass and Mac Jones is going to carve us up.

Guess that’s the ballgame then.  But Simms - we’re watching you - you don’t get to come back and be all over Josh after we win.

Breathe, Virgil.   It’ll be OK.  As far as being dissed by FOX or GMFB or Simms or anyone else -  Buffalo -vs- Everybody

    I Like It Like That

Wow, was that bad huh?  Usually Sims is a big Josh backer, but he was also the main guy I remember before the draft touting how NFL ready jones was based on Sims  friendship with the 49 ers head coach. Have to admit , this game seems like one of those where Mcd might be out-coached, as I am thinking nothing gets him out of the 4-2-5 , and we might get handled along our lines.   Plus if the weather really is going to be extremely gusty,  add that Pats d line rushing, and Josh being a little erratic with his decisions this year, and if we would abandon the run, it really could be a heart breaking game for us.

I hope if it’s really that gusty , we realize Jones should have big issues as well and we should focus on run blitzing and covering those tight ends.  Just hope we see some creative Coaching from our guys and don’t suffer a third home loss this season.   Thx for the review tho so now will definitely skip the sims / florio preview. Based on all the national press , it wouldn’t surprise me if their take is echoed by most outside of Buffalo.  Can’t argue about some things tho ,like it would be amazing to actually see us stop a running team and it sure would be nice to see our offense look good against a very good D!  Sure would make for a great Monday night to win that game!  😊

its actually called a mallet finger.

You’re exactly right.  My fault.  I’m a little out of it.  Still recovering from an anterior three level cervical fixation after 4 discs collapsed in my neck , pinching my cervical cord.( no trauma, just developed bilateral paresthesias almost like carpal tunnel,  went for mri as my balance also felt off and was told I had no choice about the surgery!).   Lost all feeling in my arms and hands , but no gross motor deficits.  Man, I did not expect this level of “ discomfort” after surgery.  Have had kidney stones before , and acutely this anterior fusion ranks right up there pain wise but not as nauseating.

Was under about 5 hours and they stopped before doing the 4 th level because of bleeding / swelling in my chest/ throat area.    Since then I have noticed some issues remembering names correctly !  Been a little scary as I usually have a very good memory.  Hopefully, it returns. ( I’m also 64 now so the memory thing with names is new , but I’ve noticed it ,  usually would not mess up a simple name like that. )  Thanks for catching that and being  kind about correcting me  😀. Hopefully , things will clear up memory wise but it looks like my sensory losses are permanent.     Oh well, still walking so it could have been worse.  ( Thx again for correcting that, sorry for the long explanation, just usually not too prone to misnaming something that simple.) Did look like he ruptured the tendons tho , don’t you think ? Better guy than me, I would have quit after needing the splint!   😊

  5. Boy, gotta feel for the Saints.  Injury bug has been terrible.  That injury to Hill , based on seeing his finger hit the guys arm with his finger flexed at the farthest ( distal joint), and seeing how it’s taped ( on top or dorsally) , and how Hill kept pulling on it between passes, most likely that is a RUPTURED EXTENSOR tendon of his middle finger.  That means if not taped in place , the distal phalanx ( furthest part of the finger ) will drop down in what’s called a mallet ( thx for correcting that for me, I misnamed the final result) deformity.  The tendon was torn, ripped from the sides of the bone and most likely will have to remain splinted with the tip flexed upward ( splint on top with slight bend up ) for about 6-8 weeks. If you don’t keep the splint in the tendons can’t reattach and you have a permanent mallet ( corrected)  deformity.

Can’t hurt it more right now , but he won’t he playing with it like that after this game as medically it won’t heal without proper splinting that doesn’t come off. No easy way to control throwing and he would have a permanent deformity.     At least that’s what it looks like from tv.  Otherwise I don’t think they would keep that splint on top of the third finger.  Hill is playing tough, got to give him credit, but sure looks like he ruptured the extensor tendons on that finger.   Will see tomorrow on injury report.

This isn’t another weather or dome thread— I promise!

in light of what is expected to be extraordinarily windy conditions on MNF, how do you think each team’s roster and gameplan changes, if at all?

Here are a few thoughts I have had:

    1) patriots defense goes back to man. From everything I have read, the Pats have gone increasingly zone (cover 2 shell, cover 4) over the last several weeks. With heavy wind, I would expect they could revert to man and loaded boxes— taking away the run and everything short and actually giving us the deep stuff.

    2) Bills change up personnel and focus on run game. I am predicting that the Bills for the first time activate DS, Moss, and Breida for the same game, and that we may see two of the three in the backfield at the same time. This may be stating the obvious, but out of necessity, I would expect a run heavy offense. Lots of two TE formations.  Lots of sweeps. Designed QB runs.

Pats are riding a 6 game winning streak.  Don’t see them changing anything.   Allen has the strength to still beat them deep plus they want to stay in zone because they want eyes on the qb.  Esp, a running qb like Allen and they have said playing zone is why they are so good at getting turnovers now and I believe they lead the league in turnover differential..  The zone may not be as deep but I doubt they change what has gotten them to 1st place UNTIL someone proves they can beat them.  They won’t change offense much except now they prob can’t go after whites replacement as much as they might have liked too.   If I was them, I don’t take a chance on a blown man coverage and make Allen prove he can be patient in weather.  Would keep in zone and spy on him and make the Bills prove they can run the ball.

Daboll will need to do some counter action, jet sweeps , and like you mentioned , time to bring in the FB and more protection for Allen because Judon and a very good d line are coming. Have to work w Allen on quick release this week, because if he keeps holding the ball , he is in for some bad sacks.   I hope Daboll uses up tempo to mitigate the rush and wear down the d line.   Also try rushing more if Brown is back ?  Not going to be able to spread it out anyhow against that d AND bad weather , so possessions , not turning the ball over is our hope to win. Don’t be afraid to run or punt , and play field position as Bass should have an advantage knowing the winds better.

Get Brieda the ball more, and use. Singletary and Allen running as well.  Moss might be motivated but I’m not sitting Brieda to take another chance on moss showing up unfocused plus I’m not taking the threat of Breidas speed away.  He could take a screen or short wheel route all the way and moss can’t do that.   Even using the threat of Briedas speed with putting him in motion will open things up for Allen. Playing moss just brings the D up tighter as he is no deep threat. I can’t see activating all 3 rbs unless you sit an offensive or defensive lineman. Also  I definitely work on ways to get the ball in Knox’s hands; reverse, screens, shovel pass , jump pass to him by a back in the red zone etc.

I was kidding about the Bills fearing the weather before but if it’s going to be gusty , really it could play in our favor with good play calling It would essentially take away any Pats passing game , but then Mcd/ Frazier have to be willing to run blitz or get out of their 4-2-5 because we will be seeing power running with two tight ends or extra lineman all night. It’s our home so we should be practicing in that weather every day to gain an advantage in the short passing game to augment our anemic running.and keep drilling Josh that in this situation  punting or throwing it away is better than ints!  Going to be low scoring, everybody thinking this favors the pats.  However, knowing what’s expected , no excuse we can’t adjust our D and O play calling to our advantage. If we stick with the same usual strategies, it wouldn’t surprise me if we got blown out playing finesse football.  We know what’s coming so a third loss at home would be a very disappointing coaching season by McD.

  7. Well, I called that with 2 posts on the 19 th in this thread.  Knew most likely Brown lied again and that it was implausible 100% of the Bucs were immunized.  Also called that his statement released about missing time because of his “ ankle” was most likely a cover until the investigation results came out.  ( disclaimer, not politically related, just discussing this related to gaining a competitive advantage in the postseason , nothing related to Covid disease, just breaking NFL rules.  Taking the vax is between a person and dr relationship , committing felonies has been discussed on here related to football before. This is a football participation discussion).

What continues to amaze me is on the pregame show on the NFL NETWORK, Glazer reports Browns et Al suspension for  THREE regular season games.   Kurt, the host ,remarks that the FBI did state this was a felony , which is true and I stated that on the 19 th when warnings went out to Drs that faking info on cards was a felony and could result in license revocation or fines etc.  RIGHT AFTER SAYING it was a felony , Kurt cuts to Strahan  and asks his opinion how this will affect the Bucs chance to do what they are still after !  Without batting a lash, Strahan , says no, Brown should take “ the time to rest and get his ankle healthy “ so he is ready down the road!  Do they not understand the word FELONY,,,,or is it just a way of NFL life that allows / rewards Brown w rest prior to the playoffs!?

Why suspend this admitted criminal ( no argument he purchased the cards etc) for regular season games at this point in his career ? Want to send a real message with teeth Goodall? Allow him to play the regular season games but make him ineligible for or suspended for three or the entirety of postseason play!  The only thing that matters to these guys ( 3 game checks mean nothing now to this vet type player) , is another ring or chance to play in a SB with all the PR surrounding it.  Plus , why does the team get zero penalty for allowing this to happen ?

Those cards were by rule to have been validated.  It’s not like it was some infinite amount of cards to validate; it’s 100 cards or less.  So once again , the NFL ignores the big picture of players committing felonies , but hey , let’s be sure they can still have the roster they want if they get to ths SB!   Making the guys who used the fake cards ineligible for post season play would properly add some punishment and accountability for the negligent Bucs organization.  This is not political , it’s a football issue. Is it fair to allow guys who committed felonies to “ rest up” for the playoffs , actually gaining a competitive advantage, when they violated NFL ( and FBI ) rules?  Isn’t this similar to some things like the Pats have done on their way to “SB” titles?
Maybe the FBI  will step in ( unlikely given the time frame etc) , but suspending a guy who can’t play with an ankle issue anyhow just does not seem like the penalty fits the crime ( plus, we all have seen the laundry list of crimes Brown has been associated with posted in this thread, so when is enough, enough with this guy?) Are the Bucs now becoming the new PATS; get them to the SB no matter what ? Do you guys believe this is fair , esp to other teams who followed the rules or were transparent ?  😉🧐

How is this bad luck in Orchard Park in December?

Are most of the fans on this board not from Buffalo or understand this is extremly normal circumstances that the Bills have played in during their entire franchise existence??

Again if this team and QB can't play in these type of conditions than the Pegulas need to clean house immediately because there was a major disconnect somewhere in terms of how you build an NFL team that has play football during the winter in the northeast US.

Haha!   Reading this I was thinking , is this a BILLS board?  We thrived cuz when it was too tough for them it was “ just right for us”!   It used to be we had a home field advantage and wanted every big game here in Buffalo in Dec/ Jan !    Bills draft a BG ARM qb who played in Wyoming and was drafted to handle inclement weather because he spins the ball so well.  We built a team to play HOME PLAYOFF. GAMES in Jan.!   Now people are worried about the weather, a week out, something neither team has any control over.

Wow, how the tides have changed when Bills fans are worried a power running team from New England with a rookie Qb ( from Jax and Alabama ) can have a better game than the hand picked qb brought in to lead during the weather you see in Buff during playoff time !    Come on people, it’s your home stadium.   If the weak armed guy can’t throw in weather , the run becomes predictable and stoppable!  Th Bills team history is BUILT around playing tough football in cold snowy weather!   When it snows , the receivers have an advantage knowing where they are going !  I can’t believe I am reading the Bills fans are worried about weather in Buffalo, and they have had  11 days to prep for the pats, despite possibly having the strongest armed , toughest qb, built for “ football weather”  ( tells you how worried fans are about no running game and the team playing “ soft” , finesse football!). You would think reading this the team has a new nick name based off the “ kitties”!😂. Well, actually the TEAM doesn’t seem to be whining.  Where are my old school guys at,,,,,,,,man, it’s a home Monday night game with first place on the line and fans are posting weather reports!   😈

Dobbins isn't a 2000 yard back (i guess if you go by college, but Singletary had almost 2000 in college).  He had 800 in 2020, and blew out his knee this year.  He also only has 18 career catches.

If you're thinking of taylor, he was selected prior to Epenesa.  I like dobbins, but ravens have made running backs look good for years.

Was going by dobbins production the year he was drafted from Ohio state. Pretty sure he was close to 2 k rushing his senior year and over that with receiving.  He Was extremely productive as a Buckeye , power , speed , good receiver.  Not talking about his injury in the nfl, which he will recover from.  No comparison with his production and moss or singletary in college.  Ravens grabbed him within seconds when bills took epenesa.    Dobbins was just coming on, getting used more.  when his injury occurred. Pretty sure he was already being used more around the goal line and had more tds than motor who was taken e year before.  On the ravens he is in a crowded backfield situation as Lamar is a rb as well.  But coming out of  college , dobbins was listed as top or second back from that class and he was amazing with the buckeyes.

He would have been a perfect addtiion here , better rb, better receiver than motor and epenesa has logged about the same playing time with no injury happening.   Then we took moss with our third round pick.   Just saying , when he gets healthy , watch, he will be much more productive in the nfl than motor, moss, or epenesa.    We needed a power rb with good hands and speed and we passed him up for epenesa whom at this point is a marginal edge rusher.  His rookie season was a total failure.  Let’s compare them after next year as dobbins is fully recovered from injuury.   Dobbins was not being made a healthy scratch routinely before his  injury like moss and epenesa have experienced.

Beane went by his board , took epenesa, next pick ravens took dobbins.  Epenesa is not a talented nfl player like dobbins will be. Singletsry and moss were taken in the 3 rd rounds for.reasons.   Not same level,of production in college careers and Beane has not valued the rb position ( or Daboll, and it’s been an issue making us more one dimensional, just look what brieda did with more speed and dobbins has very close to that same speed but Also has power )     My main issue is taking epenesa with dobbins sitting there and epenesa will never be used as much because of the line rotation.

I simply don't understand with the pass blocking issues they have had why Daboll hasn't started moving the pocket more with Allen.  This would help with several things:

    1) It would get Allen away from the immediate middle pressure that seems to be happening so much since Ford gets smoked more often than not

    2) It would cause the DLine to have to chase Allen all over the field which would wear on them as the game wore on and tire them out, limiting their effectiveness as time went on from being tired.

    3) This might also open up holes in the run game since a tired DLine would be less effective getting off blocks and tackling, leading to more arm tackles and poor technique.

    4) It would allow Allen and his WR's more creativity in getting open downfield, and allow for misdirection throwbacks that could result in HUGE plays since the flow would be taking all the defenders towards the play side

    5) It would force defenders to make a choice between defending Allen running the ball versus covering their man, or at least give them hesitation as to what they should do that would allow Allen to have an advantage where either they don't cover his rushing lane and he gets cheap yards or they leave a man uncovered downfield...it would also be something new the Bills are doing regularly so the tape on it wouldn't be out immediately for teams to have a good gameplan against it

Daboll is supposed to innovative, but having your mobile QB get pressured up the middle quickly which negates his mobility and play making ability doesn't seem to make much sense from a design standpoint...

This o line is giving up pressure from the center and edges , as Fina stated , they are not doing basic techniques well !  Defenses also know Josh is much more effective moving to his right , so they are not going to just sit and not bring pressure from that side.  Also these o line instabilities ( injuries, Covid etc) affect communication and they are already failing at picking up simple stunts. I would do more up tempo , change the snap count more, really work on screens to slow the rush, and do more protection in with the fb and play from under center to stop giving tells so much. Rolling out some is a good idea, but can’t be the entire solution.  Those defensive coordinators are smart once they have film. I fault Daboll for lack or variety , and the o line coach is not doing his job well.   Morse is the one stable piece playing with good health and is really intelligent.  Brown has great potential , Dawkins needs an off season to fully recover from a near death illness , and the rest are backups or journeyman types.  Williams is a passable guard but I think he is overrated based on last years play ( watch him in the afc championship game,,,,looked confused).  Josh looks most comfortable running up tempo so I would really go with that almost like the k gun years!

The Bills had a chance to pick up Fournette. Easy to play armchair QB but I remember wanting the Bills to sign him. Instead the Bills are left with Moss, Motor, and Breida. None of these guys compare to Fournette. The Bills as many other teams whiffed on him.

Being in Jax at the time he became available, I can tell you his press was terrible, his attitude was terrible, he was playing uninspired, W’as also having off field issues and he just looked like he really didn’t cRe about football at the time.  Got to give Him credit, he remade his image and he looks like the antithesis of the rb he was while in Jax!  I think that’s why so many teams passed on him. Honestly, I thought he was going to be out of the league very shortly. Just goes to show, the culture and right situation can make or break careers in the NFL!  Given the Bills lack of success until just now, he may not have turned his career around like he did at Tampa. I don’t blame the Bills for that choice , but not taking a 2000 yard back like dobbins who fell to you , going for a project like epenesa , sticking with two 3 rd round rbs from schools that don’t play nearly the competition dobbins played against, will continue to haunt them.  After dobbins recovers , epenesa ( where. You are supposed to see the biggest improvement from the first to second years , similar to Moss)  will continue to be a spot player and I just don’t see moss having the speed or the advertised power to become a special player.

So missing on a player having proven issues in the NFL, is something I think was explainable.   Going back to back on 3 rd rd Rbs , passing on a proven 2000 yd rb who also is a good receiver for a dl falling down the board related to speed issues and still only sees spot duty is partly responsible for our lack of a viable running  game. I like Beane a lot as a good communicator, fairly good gm with a distinct vision , but his lack of addressing a true edge rusher ( groot has potential, not there yet) , sticking with the same o line that showed issues in last years afc championship loss, and under valuing the rb position are things I believe will keep us from being a bona fide SB contender this year. We might get there ,,,,but beating the Bucs who I believe will be from the nfc , looks impossible as we are still a mostly one dimensional team.   I hope he learns from this and has a better off season filling in those last parts. New England sure made up lots of ground in a year , so now he has more pressure than just addressing beating the Chiefs.

The Colt's focused on Issiah's ball security on a major weakness during returns came up during HK, it's not surprising he is benched - he will be a resource for us later in our playoff run but he needs to get in the right mindset for improvement.

After playing in the preseason , practice, and 9 prior games , I am pretty sure he is what he is , and always has been, indecisive fielding the ball. Not only has he fumbled once tha really put the game out of reach, he loses field position  by not catching punts well.  Tasker always said you lose 15-20:yards when you let the ball bounce by not fielding punts. I would be done with him as a returner esp since we commit penalties like blocking in the back about 50% of the time.  Risk way out weighs the slight chance of a significant return. Would still consider a role for him offensively if Beasley remains injured.

Btw, can we please get away from the crap of short kickoffs when Bass can boom the ball out all the time?  It seems to rarely work for us and places the other team beyond their 30 most times , significantly increasing the odds for fgs and td drives based on NFL stats. Another example of Mcd outthinking himself and not getting desired outcomes. How often do you see other NFL teams trying that unless there was a penalty allowing the kick off team to kick from 10-15 yards closer to where they want to short kick to ?  It’s like we never learned from the music city miracle , that squib kicking etc, just changes the risk as you don’t practice them often. Football is sometimes better played simply,,,,KISS !

  13. I agree with your order with a couple of changes. Chiefs still the most dangerous at home.  They have been there and done that and now with Tre out, we are less likely to beat them a second time. Then I would put a near healthy titans team in Tennessee second, some places we just play poorly and let’s face it, they would be confident playing us. Then the pats if in New England.  It’s Belicheck with a great d , power running , and their only weakness is jones has no playoff experience and I believe you grow into playoff success. Ravens would be next as they always pressure the qb and this year our line won’t hold up. Lamar can be contained running and they should have lost to cleveland after he threw 3-4 picks.   That’s still a flaw and also a reason I would not worry any longer about the browns. How do you lose a game after so many giftS?  Colts would be actually above the Ravens now , but it’s possible their inconsistency will keep them out. But it took Brady and the SB champs to beat them by only 7 in Indy , so if they do get in , I agree with you they scare me more than the ravens , plus the Colts demolished us at our home and the weather was a factor surprisingly!  Our finesse d line will continue to be a liability unless Starr stays healthy and Oliver continues his inspired year. Bengals are close behind but again, not having won a playoff game in so many years, it’s a process and I think it’s at least one year of an early exit before being serious contenders.

Chiefs,  followed closely by the titans , followed very closely by the Pats are the three biggest worries in my eyes for the afc championship game to keep us out of the SB.   Playoffs are about past playoff experience; one and done is a different pressure that does play a huge role.

If we ever got there, No Way do I want to ever see TB AND BRADY.  Too much experience and we could get blown out like in SB 27.  Green Bay is close second but I think we could stay within  a one possession result.  Arizona would be a good shot at us winning , we want to rid ourselves of hail Murray forever!   Dallas has a very potent o , but I think their d might still give us an edge.    Would prefer the Cards, then Dallas, GB , then I find a way to lose the afc championship if the Bucs are already known as the NFC  opponent; been traumatized enough by Brady for one lifetime!  Too much experience, too much success against the Bills, strong running and passing game with good receivers that losing Tre makes more dangerous.  Yep , I even have Josh fake an injury if we had to face them so that way we could place the L on tribusky as he is on the way out the door anyhow!  Lol!  Don’t want Josh to be a part of losing 5 Sb’s and go down that path Jim has had to live with all these years!

Well, the AFCE comes down to December. Unless something really weird happens to either team, it specifically comes down to two games against NE in 20 days. With all of the struggles and disappointments we had mid-season, what an opportunity we have before us.

That said, by how some are responding , you'd think we don't even have a chance at the division. Yes, we've struggled but we are still a really good team. And, we still have everything in front of us to win this division (and more). I get it, it's the Pats. The PTSD is probably still fresh for some since they dominated for so long. We all wanted them to stay in the AFCE cellar once Brady moved on to the Bucs. And last year was amazing, because for once, we played the part that the Pats usually played against us. We pulled one out and then completely dominated them in Foxborough (I still love that our team made BB throw a phone - an instant classic). On top of that the competition wasn't close and we ran away with the division with a 13-3 record.

After a down year, the Pats are back (at least for this year) and we're starting December neck and neck with them. I know it's not who we wanted to contend with, but even two years ago, we as fans would've been begging to have the opportunity that's in front of us. That opportunity being two games against the Pats in December to most likely decide the division. That opportunity being that we control our own destiny heading into December. That opportunity being a chance for us to keep the AFCE crown in Buffalo and be the team that keeps it from being in Foxborough again.

We're a good team that struggled mid-season. The Pats struggled in the first part of the season and have unfortunately come into form and have been playing good ball. So, here we are. We cruised to the division title last year but most division titles in most years go down to the wire. It's something we as fans need to get used to. While it would've been nice to have a repeat of last year where the division came pretty easily to us, this is a good thing for our Bills. It keeps them focused. It reminds them that every game matters. And, it gives them the opportunity to show the Pats who's in charge in the AFCE.

Only time will tell if they take that opportunity but that time starts next Monday at home in front of the greatest, most loyal fans. It's time to go get it, Buffalo. Show them that it's not going to happen in our house, on your watch. Show them who the new king of the division is.

    Go Bills!

Well, we let two teams take games from us in front of the home crowd with the colts loss being the worst so far this year. Why does an NFL team need something to stay focused after losing already to possibly the  second worst team in football ( jags)   Our schedule was a setup to have already been in command of the division.   Believe me, it is fortunate we are only 1/2 game behind the Pats but that’s not really a GOOD THING as they are being run by a ROOKIE QB, not a QB, with 4 years experience worth 250$ mil dollars!   If we were truly the new king , we should have not wasted two of those losses as true great teams have records that reflect the truth; as Parcells said, you are what your record says it is!   We have a chance to still  be the team we hoped we could be , but it’s going to be much tougher than it was expected for us as the year started.

Just don't get beat deep. That's all he needs to do.

The SuperBowl is solely dependent on Allen.

He is important but he has shown he is still young and needs help as a running game would allow Josh to be his best. He doesn’t do well, nor do the Bills when everyone knows Josh is dropping back 40 plus times in a game.  Look at the division leaders , they all have balanced attacks.  Look at the defending SB Bucs, Brady is getting help from strong running from fournette.  Can’t ignore our offensive issues just because we took a big hit on our D.

I get your intended point , if Josh can play flawlessly , quit doing things he keeps reiterating he can’t do, we do have a chance to offset tres loss.  Without Josh at his best , not throwing ints, not fumbling, not looking confident , not having any game winning drives, etc, we just don’t look like we can overcome the Tre loss. Best hope is Josh at his best with help.  I hate to say this, but I hope we see a Josh as willing to be patient running the O as jones has been doing that with the Pats.

The Bills are top 5 against the run already.

Yeah they sure looked that way against Henry and Taylor.  The pats were built to be power running specifically for division rivals the Bills. Fools that with expert play action qb Brady and lefts truly see where we stand , esp now with our lock down corner gone. Couldn’t have been a worse injury for us at a more critical times. Those stupid loses to the Steelers at. Home, jags in Jax , and loss to Titans as Dawkins gets blown up and josh jumps to the left  and slips as right of center was wide open , which were “ wake up calls” sure have proven how each game matters as now we face our toughest part of our schedule. Saints game proved little , and Mcd better get that under achieving d line to actually sack some one And keep sound gap control.  Without white,, it’s just gotten easier to get the ball out quicker. Don’t look now but Mcd never changes out/of the 4-2-5 , so I would be shocked with moving pieces around except for the cb. The pats d has taken over the past few weeks with sacks, Take away s, and points allowed.according to sims , boomer et Al!  We are in trouble as our wins came against bottom dwellers. Next two -3 weeks hold our true potential , not prior meaningless stats.

our playoff hopes lie with josh and his ability to quit holding the ball too long behind this pourous line and quit throwing ints as possessions will matter.  Can  Daboll finally get creative with Brieda , stop forcing moss on second and long, and can we keep a semi healthy o line ( as I believe Dawkins s is not healthy and Brown s back could easily recur).    Last year we were healthy nil the final two games.  This year Covid has been worse for us and beasly and white are big issues as well , white being lost for the year.  Pats with #1 scoring d in the NFL , JUST WHAT OUR O LINE AND JOSH STRUGGLE AGAINST.  Luck has not been with us this year , as who expected the pats with a rookie QB to be leading our dfivusiin this late in the year as that power run game is flourishing!?  SO FAR MCD IS BEING OUTCOACHED AS the pats look like the real, contenders.  Next Monday could mean our season, let’s see how Mcd does!

This season has been a weird one, and there has been something off in most games that most of us haven't been able to put our fingers on.  A Jags defender noted it in that game - the team hasn't seemed as hungry, and at times has even looked disinterested.

Today is an earthquake.  I've gotta believe that every player on that team is thinking, "how do we overcome this?  What more can I do to offset this?"

It HAS happened that teams lose great players, and then go on incredible runs.  This has happened in all sports, and it isn't that rare.

We still have one of the best safety tandems in the league, and decent DB's overall.  It won't be night & day in terms of pass coverage. The Bills can overcome this, and maybe they can use it for the extra motivation it seems like they've needed since September.

No offense, but how many wake up calls, how many good losses , how many starters must this team lose to galvanize these guys to play .Iike last years AFC East champs who were one win away from the SB?   How do they go from being SB favorites from the AFC, having control of the east , with their goal of hosting the AFC  championship game, to now every game carrying the weight of playoff games and just moved oit of the last playoff spot up to third ending the Pats/ Titans game !   How do their wins come from playing teams that are terrible , many playiing wirh backup QBs  while their loses ( excluding Jax, who actually did have a strong d line performance) habe been from potential playoff teams with strong running attacks?   We had supposedly a “ bye” month as die hard fan nous called it and managed to lose 2/ 3 of those games before beating the lowly Jets and Saints.

Now you are saying we need losing the most talented member of our secondary as a positive, finally galvanizing event to kick off our SB potential run!?   Dose that sound realistic to you : aren’t these guys Pros who throw that term out any time they are asked about loses and that they flush them quickly so it seems loses carry little weight ,as they  get paid highly despite wins / loses for the most part , and now with an extra excuse to further defend poor defensive play against good teams we should expect the team to kick it up a notch in honor of Tre?     Wow.  We have already lost more games than last year and we are facing the toughest part of our schedule!  you are truly a glass is half full kind of guy ; God bless you!  If it happens, I want to talk to you about helping me with future investments!   I really hope your optimism is rewarded , but I’m kind of at the point that records matter(7-4) and now they have to show me against a hot , arguably better coached pats team and last years Super Bowl champs with Brady ( who will zero in on tres replacement) at their home field that they can win. Sorry, it’s time to quit platitudes and play to the talent level they think , claim each week they have!  Happy holidays!

There I was:  settled into the sofa in the customary post-Thanksgiving dinner stupor, having eaten altogether too much just because, well, I was supposed to, surrounded by my family, flipping channels between the final plays of the Cowboys’ overtime loss to the Raiders (it’s always fun to watch the Cowboys lose, even if it meant the Raiders would get the win!) and the beginning of the Bills game.  I awaited the game with trepidation, because the Bills are one of the NFL’s 2021 mystery teams:  they’re winning plenty of games, dominating weak teams but with glaring weaknesses exposed from week to week.  The Bills should be able to handle the Saints, I thought, but they should have been able to handle the the Steelers and the Jags, too.

Not to worry.  The Bills stomped on the New Orleans Saints Thanksgiving night, rolling to a 31-6 win.   They bounced back from their humiliation against the Colts and put together a solid performance with little time to prepare.  Of course, if you’re going to have a short week, it helps if your opponent is playing without Drew Brees or his replacement (Jameis Winston) or his replacement (Taysom Hill), and without their best skill position players on offense and without several other starters.  It was a favorable matchup, and the Bills took full advantage.

Once again, the Bills showed that they have a great defense against weak offensive teams.  Once again, the Bills absolutely stifled the opponent, rolling into and through the third quarter having given up only a few dozen yards and no points.  The Saints could do nothing with the ball.  Once again, it was impressive, complementary team defense with everyone contributing.  The Bills defense puts on a show almost like the cast of a Broadway musical, with first one person taking center-stage, then another, then another.   Ed Oliver stood out against the Saints, but Mario Addison brought it too, Matt Milano made some gorgeous tackles, Tremaine Edmunds made plays, then Micah Hyde and Tre’Davious White.   Whosever turn it was stepped up and stopped the Saints.

Once again, the Bills struggled to run the ball, and once again Josh Allen looked great except when he didn’t.  Dion Dawkins made a few frighteningly bad plays.   Still, it all added up to a lot of points against a few points, another lopsided win against another team that’s going nowhere in the league this season.

That’s not a bad thing, of course, but teams that are going nowhere are, in particular, not going to the playoffs, and winning in the playoffs is what ultimately matters.  In the Saints game, there were plenty of signs that the Bills were improving in areas where they’ve struggled; whether that improvement will carry over against good teams remains to be seen.

The offensive line recovered somewhat from its recent dismal performances.  The Bills did their best to keep Cody Ford off the field, replacing him with Ryan Bates after a series or two, only to have Bates get dinged, giving Ford still another shot.  Still, things went fairly well across the line.  Allen’s protection improved – he still had to make more plays to stay upright and keep the play alive than you’d like in a quality offense, but at least he had time to get set, look downfield and make his first read before finding himself at risk.  And cracks, seams, and even occasional holes opened in the line for the running backs.   Was the line better because the opponent was worse, or was this actual improvement?   Ask me after the Patriots game.

All right, yes I said the run game failed, but in some ways it succeeded admirably. It failed because the Bills couldn’t control the game by rushing the ball.  There were a few nice runs here and there, some excitement from Breida, solid if not spectacular power from Singletary, but strictly in numbers it didn’t add up to a whole lot.  The Bills’ offensive game was about passing.

However, the run game succeeded in a broader way, and let’s hope it’s a continuing trend.   Simply by committing to and sticking with the run, and even though it wasn’t putting up big numbers, the passing game opened up.  Allen was throwing the ball more freely, finding the right man open and delivering the ball.  Some of that came from the simple fact that the defense knew that it was possible that the Bills would be running.   And not running just anywhere; the Bills attacked outside with speed, and at times they faked outside.   Simply the threat of a ground game changed the passing game.  .

Allen and the receivers took full advantage, exploiting openings all around the field.  By and large, Allen knew where the play should go and got the ball there.  He did it calmly and efficiently.  The receivers executed; all of them.  Nice catches from Sanders, Beasley, Davis, Singletary, Knox.   It really was an excellent passing game.

The communication and precision of Allen and Diggs is a treat.  We saw it last season, but they’ve taken it to another level.  There have been plenty of great passer-receiver combinations, and these two haven’t been together long enough to approach the records, but Allen and Diggs already are doing some special things.  People used to talk about Manning and Harrison and how they knew each other; what we’re seeing already is in that league.  Diggs runs absolutely exquisite routes, precise, lightning quick and creative, and on cue Allen delivers a gift-wrapped catchable ball right where they both expect it to be.  Then Diggs’s eye-hand coordination takes over, and the chains move.

We saw it on the touchdown pass, where Diggs drove Lattimore so hard to the inside that when he broke out, Diggs was alone.   And here comes the gift, and Diggs has it.   They do it on tight-window in-cuts and out-cuts, Diggs cracks an opening for Allen to throw into, and Allen puts it there.  It’s special stuff we’re watching.

And although they’re not on the same level, Allen to Beasley, and to Sanders, and to Knox, and to Singletary all are important connections.  They’re all making each other better.  Knox is now more of an integral part of the receiving unit, and separate and meaningful threat, and that makes all the others better.  He doesn’t have to play like Kelce to be a meaningful threat.  He just has to be a threat, and this season he’s shown that’s what he is.

We’re also watching the story of Josh Allen unfold before us.  Whether he continues to improve and become a true all-time great, or whether he’ll plateau and be just really good in a QB-friendly era, is the story that will be told in the next few years.

On Thursday night, Drew Brees demonstrated the story of Allen’s development very simply.   He dissected Allen’s decision-making on the second interception, when a score would have made the Bills more comfortable at the half.  To Brees, it was a very straight-forward proposition:  Just get five yards on this play, call time out, take a couple of shots, and get the TD or field goal.  Allen looked downfield, his first option wasn’t there.  Sanders was the relief valve there, and Allen should have taken the simple choice.  Instead he waited, hoping for more, then was left with a low-probability throw.  Then he compounded the mistake, because although Allen can complete passes like that, the risk is simply too great.  Throw it away and try something on third down.  A great QB, particularly Brees, has the patience to take what he can on this play and move on the next.  Allen has to see both mistakes and develop the patience and discipline to make the easy play, the smart play.

The Bills are evolving into the team they will be.  The season is progressing.  Edmunds is back.  Feliciano and Brown will be back, which means the offensive line will be getting reconfigured in one or more ways.  Breida may be growing into a bigger role.  Stevenson’s tryout for McKenzie’s job gets mixed reviews – he looks more explosive than McKenzie, perhaps has elite quickness, but he put the ball on the ground once, and you have to wonder if he can survive the pounding.  Nobody can replace White, of course, but McDermott and Frazier will reshape the secondary to respond to the loss.  Every team has injuries – White is the Bills’ Derrick Henry.  The defense will be weaker; can the Bills’ offense occupy the ball longer and control games for stretches?  Well, maybe some combination of Feliciano and Brown and Breida will change the character of this team’s game, maybe Knox will become a household name in December. Maybe Stevenson becomes a gadget sensation.  Maybe Allen will go on a run, the kind of run that fans remember for decades, the kind of run that become part of the myth of the truly great. Or maybe not.

It’s a story to be told. Beginning next week.

    GO BILLS!!!

Absolutely best , most accurate summary of a game and Significant plays I have read on this board all year !  Really well done. I especially liked your pick up on Brees and his analysis of that second int.  So many other writers, podcasters , refused to accept that was on Allen and just blamed the o line hitting Allens arm.  Brees pointed out Allens biggest flaw this year, he continues to avoid the open short routes and keeps looking for something else , which is exacerbating the line deficiencies.  The ints this year mostly have that problem as Allen holds the ball and the. Delivers late while under pressure and I am concerned why he seems to ignore correcting or coaching on this.  Palmer , on. Another podcast mentioned he was CONCERNED. about Allen regressing this way on several occasions this year.  Of course, the fan boys on here then resulted to name calling Palmer and referring to his lack of long term accomplishments.  They ignore how many QBS seek his advice and training which is a mark of long term career success.

So, can Allen defeat this tendency to keep holding the ball while our o line struggles? He talks about not “ doing this, or I can’t do thiS” yet he is still not changing his tendency of being late to hot or short open routes and we can’t keep losing the turnover battle. Also, I firmly believe Dawkins is truly showing effects of long Covid as he looks fatigued , lacks quickness , and is making uncharacteristic mental mistakes. He may not fully recover until the season is over , but some hope is many long Covid patients comment on suddenly improving around 9 months.   People forget he almost died from this and it’s reasonable he truly will need all that time and maybe even take the full off season to get back to normal.  I hope Starr recovers totally and is able to play at the great level he has so far; only time will tell and he is so important in stopping the run. I am concerned we lost a level of Talent with TreS loss that is just not  replaceable  and it will open up an extra option for Jones / Pats , and it will really weigh on is against Brady.  We have 11 days for reps and adjustments but it will be a huge challenge and we as a team are getting low,on ability to correct for starter losses.

I also agree each game now is like a playoff game, especially if we want to have any home playoff games.  Brieda / singletary sssms like a better combo and add hope for the run and opening up the play action.  Great write up and we will see the truth against the Pays at home , followed  by the Bucs game.  Those will really tell us where we actually are as a true SB  contender or have just Let another season needlessly pass by.  Keep up the great posts!   Happy holidays !

Ok, all of us agree that losing Tre for the season is devastating for our “possible” chances to get the job done this year… well, i don’t see it.

I’m still sure that, even if Tre is an outstanding player, we could afford his absence. It wouldn’t be like this if it was Josh and not Tre to be out for the season. We will find a way to replace Tre or we’ll find a way to make some little change at our defensive game plan… maybe using more double team against the best opposite WRs… or maybe switching more often from man to man to a zone coverage…

Losing Josh would have been unfixable. So be calm, everything will be ok, if we find a way to play a better football both side, offense and defense, because lately we weren’t so good.

Some team suffered worse injuries or general losses, ask the Titans with Henry, ask the Texans with Watson.. or what it could be if Indy would lose Taylor, or Baltimore with Jackson, or Green Bay losing Rodgers.

Of course losing Tre for the season is a bad bad thing, but we can survive it if starting playing better over all.

The only other actual loss involving the teams you mentioned was Henry and the Titans play has suffered.  They now have to depend more on the Qb and they literally lost THE BEST running back in the NFL.  Now they are in a battle for the #1 seed and before they had it locked up if Henry was 100%.  Plus , we could play that team 10,x in. Their home and be lucky to win 3 times.   We had no a see for him just as we had no answer for Taylor.    Any team losing their first string Qb will take a huge loss and if lost for the season , it’s unlikely thru recovery to win a SB.  Imagine the Bucs losing Brady , do you actuallly think they find a way to recover from thAt.

Losing white , a five year starter , lockdown corner who had allowed NO TDS this year s a huge loss for the D.  No one on this roster is equal or they would be sharing duties or in place of Wallace.

There is a noticeable drop off from white to Wallace , and Wallace iS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE #1 reciever usually. Now throw in Jackson , who we have seen in one game get beaten badly with a double move and luckily the qb missed a wide open receiver!  That happened against a qb with no where near the talent of Brady and no where near the accuracy of jones who also has the support of two good tight ends and two good power rbs! Also add an excellent d with good pash run ends against our o( with Dawkins struggling badly ,( whom I personally believe is showing signs of long Covid with fatigue and what looks like mental processing errors) and we will need to have a top performance for our o to make up for losimg a lockdown corner.

So you are without you lockdown corner with no one close in talent to replace him ,let alone his leadership skills being gone now. Your o line is very inconsistent, so assume the o will not score its usual amount , as New England will run the ball and run clock off. However when they need to get a first down , now more options are available for Jones as Tre took one receiver away on most plays.   Unless our D can Can actually get some sacks , then qb will have more time  to allow that #1 receiver to get open against someone like Jackson. Tre was also more physical against the run so that’s another hit to our D.

it’s just not reasonable to think you can keep removing starters from a team and they can just keep adjusting. The o line is not the same and the strength of our D, the safeties and the dbs who have played together many games have developed that chemistry can’t be simply just the same.  There’s a much higher chance for broken coverages now.  Might not matter as much against Jones , but it will matter against Brady who we almost never defeat.   We couldn’t tell anything against the Saints who had a third string qb and many of their stars out.   You didn’t mention what a difference having their star rb out has made with their play and record.   I’m not saying losimg Tre means a loss at home against the pats , but our margin for error just got a lot less.  They are similar to the colts and titans and I expect a one possession game.

If Josh turns the ball over like he did the prior two games , we could easily lose to the pats And we will be in trouble getting into  the playoffs.  The only positive is this injury occurred with 11 days before paying the pats at home and that gets a lot more reps for tres replacement and time for Frazier and Mcd to scheme to minimize the huge loss in talent. I was predominantly worried about the inability to stop the pats run game but now without our best DB, it gives the pats one more option on O with a very accurate , patient , well coached Qb.  If it was anyone else on the d beside hyde or Tre, I would agree we could probably cover the loss in talent level.  A though three game span just got a lot tougher , each game is a playoff game for us.  We can’t have our  typical offensive lull after starting fast.  We can’t lose the turnover battle as that’s what has propelled our wins.  We lost really the one d player we have no close replacement for and unless the d line has  their best rush game to help, it’s a loss that may Cost us the game.

You’d like to carry at least one more if you can, but they went heavier at WR and DL this year.

Of course no one can anticipate injury, but this Tre injury puts us in a spot from a talent and numbers perspective. Likely a PS elevation coming. Wonder if Wildgoose will be bummed he jumped to the jets when he did.

He was claimed by the jets as our staff didn’t protect him.  Not a choice when claimed.  Billls would have had to put him on active roster to stop claim I believe, so who would they cut ? ( should have been ford or Vernon butler in hindsight!), but not wildgoose choice in any way.
