Why not someone like AQ Shipley? Why more corners, so weird... -

Welcome to Monopoly economics. Since the NFL has a monopoly on their product they can charge pretty much whatever they want. Why charge $10/game a la carte vs. $300/yr for the ticket? The marginal person who pays for the single-games doesn't outweigh the money lost from the people who then don't subscribe the ticket. I'll use myself as an example - I live near NYC, so I get the 2 jets games every year, 2-4 more i'll probably watch at a bar, so at most i'm in the market for maybe 10 bills games. If I buy a la cart, that's around $100 for the NFL. If I buy the ticket, it's that more like $300 for the NFL, not to mention all the money I'll be paying DTV on an ongoing basis for my cable service. The NFL would need 3 of me to make up for every 1 DTV subscriber they lose. Maybe that math works, but my guess is that it doesn't. From DTV's perspective, if NFL were available online in a widespread manner, they'd lose god knows how many subscribers. If NFL were available on cable or online it would diminish the value of the contracts that are in place with CBS & Fox. So everyone wins with the DTV deal -- that is, everyone benefits except for consumers like you and me. As one wall street analyst said, the NFL contract is like a drug for DirectTV - you need it to survive (i.e. retain customers) but each time you take the drug, it gets you less high (i.e. DTV isn't gaining any customers by doing the deal, just retaining the ones they have). As for me, when i don't feel like wasting money at a bar, I'll just go over to justin.tv, sopcast, or just give my relatives in Buffalo a slingbox for Christmas.

Seriously... For instance check out this response that he posted: "Dave in Fort Myers, Fla., writes: Forgive me for not buying into this whole "T.O-Lee Evans" nonsense. Seems to me that T.O. was in a similar situation last year with a WR by the name of Roy Williams, and we saw how that worked out. Not to mention that the Bills have no QB on their roster close to the talent level of Tony Romo. Why should I believe this offense poses a threat to my Phins and the rest of the East?" WTF is this "My Phins" nonsense? No self-respecting bills fan would ever write that? The trolling/lurker undertones to this response are unreal

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/09/sports/f...rss&emc=rss One of the main points is this bit: Last year, the Jets gave the Dolphins the gift of Chad Pennington. This year, they kept their hands in their pockets and allowed a division rival to swoop in and get Owens. Tom Brady is back with New England; Miami, because of the Jets, is revived; and Buffalo has T. O. Just like that, the balance of power in the American Football Conference East has changed, and the Jets could be at the bottom looking up. Also has some interesting points about how TO has been cast as the villian in a few different situations where it may not be so straightforward. In any case, I good article by the Grey Lady...

Bills are lost... Why bring in a cancer
slyng1 replied to jms62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just what we need, a new thread on this topic! Well done. -
Oh and by the way, Mort said the bills were on the list of teams *not* interested in TO. Not only an ass, but an inaccurate reporter...

The classic.....WHAT IF? Factor......
slyng1 replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh Come on now, that's not true. Remember that year (2004 maybe?) where we had the last game of the season against Pittsburgh and all we had to do was beat their reserve/2nd stringers and we were in?? That's a sniff. And there have been other sniffs... But i agree, what have we got to lose - there is little downside. They can double team Lee and Double TO and we can hit reed in the slot or pound it with Marshawn/Jackson. If nothing else, it's a good way to remove the double team from Evans or go with 4-reciever sets with Hardy/Johnson/Roscoe being the 4th. I like it! GO BILLS. -
Uhmmmm, no, exactly the opposite. For once there is some excitement on the side of fans. After the dagger through the heart of Jauron being extended this is like a peace offering from the bills franchise. We all know this could blow up in their face, but for a team that played (or rather *coached*) as scared as the bills did in the latter half of last season, this is good news. And the moment we are out, who cares...? I actually think we'll be in it the whole way through the season if trent plays as well as he's capable of playing. Wouldn't you rather them try some outside-the-box strategies rather than the same'ol same'ol nonsense they've been doin the last 10yrs? With Lee & TO on the outside and Reed in the slot - And then Marshawn or Jackson in the backfield, it really opens up our offense... I think it's going to be a good season. Then again, i'm always hopeful this time of year.

Good Point... Does "Dickhead" work better?

Ralph wilson is desperate to make the playoffs, maybe they get lucky, not a unanimous decision, Now he's dogging our QB, etc etc. I hate that guy...

You're missing a choice for your poll: POSTSEASON!

Money Talks and Bullsh_t walks... If they offer enough money (which they have done in FA from time to time...See their overspending on the O-Line 2yrs ago) they can get people to come here.

I would love to hire Marty. He's my number one pick to coach us. It just makes too much sense... -

That was 2 nice runs... Everyone laughed at run-run-pass last year, but i wouldn't mind a bit of that these days
