Yeah. One of the top newspapers in the world. Why would any journalist want to work there?

This is literally a subforum at the top of this one that is cleverly titled: Two Bills Drive RedesignCommunity based feedback on design direction of the site... I couldn't be more transparent with it if I wanted to.

LOL. I've been doing this since 1996. 21 years. I think I have a decent grasp of the situation. But no - I have not ever received a dime from the Buffalo News. People who suggest this are effing nuts. They get $3 a month for a subscriber - what do you think they are actually going to give me? Answer: not enough to care. I'm happy they are still in business. Journalism is important stuff. Maybe not sports journalism, but real newspapers with professional journalists are critical to our society. Support them.

Really, you just need to start a tipping thread to see what people really think about money...

It is more like, you go to one site and list what they have. Then you go to site 2, etc... Those are our time stamps not theirs.

I should also add that despite the fact the paywall went up 7 weeks ago or so... I haven't devoted any time to our display of the issue because I knew I was redesigning the front page. Now that it has been up for a day or so, I can start to evaluate the best way to present the information. And a follow on point, I believe in promoting real journalism. I don't live in NYC, but I subscribe to the the NYT. They do good work. I also have always driven traffic to content producers to help them get paid. I believe the hometown newspaper needs to be supported, so the answer is that TBD will always support them as long as I own the site. That's my prerogative. I have not settled on the best way to support subscribers and non-subscribers. I implemented an icon as a first cut. Now, I will evaluate our next step.

Where did you get the Venn diagram showing TBD readers and BN subscribers. That would be good info to have. Pass it along! You can subscribe to Bills news only. It's $3 per month. I would think out of town Bills fans would be a prime audience.

No, he didn't. He made demands. He backed it up with false assertions. After facing resistance, he changed his story completely and pretended it was his original point all along. I'm not a fan of that style of argument. I had already been thinking about BN article placement well before the suggestion was floated on page whatever. I have several options that I'm considering. I'd be happy to discuss them with reasonable people. Posting a topic title that says Stop linking to Buffalo News articles isn't a suggestion.

I'm not sure why this was closed and moved, but given the recent redesign it is a relevant topic.

Your ignorance of 2017 is astounding. Please feel free to visit the website of probably the world's finest newspaper - The New York Times and tell me what you see (they do give 10 free articles per month). Then go to the Washington Post. Then the Wall Street Journal, the LA Times... Go ahead. I'll wait.

Two Bills Drive is free. I haven't collected a dime from you and yet here you are actually conversing with the owner. 42 articles were posted today October 19th. 21 Articles were from the Buffalo News and 21 articles were from other sources. That is 50%, not 99%. Are 21 articles, plus summaries from the BN not enough to keep you satisfied?

And what about the fans who subscribe to the Buffalo News? Should they not have their news aggregated? "99%"... Exaggeration doesn't help make your case. 99 articles out of 100 are not from the the Bills hometown newspaper. Telling me something that isn't true isn't the way to convince me of anything. I have clearly indicated which articles are from the News and which ones are not by the lock icon preceding the titles. If anything, you are getting some paid content for free in the quote we provide.

I have already said multiple times that the purpose of those clubs would not be to do that.

So, to wrap your mind around this feature - all it really is are user created forums arranged in a club directory as opposed to me creating them and slotting them in a rigid layout as we do now. And as I mentioned above - this wouldn't be for people to create their own little Bills discussion groups.

I think my only initial objection would be sub groups to discuss the Bills. I wouldn't want any splintering of the larger discussion elsewhere.

I'm not making any assumptions here. I'm wondering how people might see themselves using such a feature. Fantasy football discussion for TBD leagues. The Garbage Plate club Regular road trip travelers Etc...

I more than likely will do something over the bye weekend. I'm either going to upgrade the front page or upgrade the forums. The front page needs the most help to be honest but this is a close second.
