  1. Why? Is it because you get to go home with a tidy anecdote in your pocket that reinforces a world view that by every societal measure - doesn't actually exist? @JaCrispy can have his personal experience without it being reflective of society at large.
  2. But it is very difficult to make observations on the individual level. Statistically, the numbers don't lie though. The longitudinal study of millions of white/black people presented in that NYT article is sobering and depressing as *****. I hope you have a chance to look through it. Make sure you let it load long enough to see the animated graphics. It's a fabulous visual. I'm guessing the data presented is counter-intuitive to most people on the subject (and which you hinted at).
  3. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/03/19/upshot/race-class-white-and-black-men.html If you can't read it then google: Extensive Data Shows Punishing Reach of Racism for Black Boys and you will see the answer to the question you just asked.
  4. I can only speak for myself. I was most definitely the latter and worse off than that. I grew up in the 70s/80s. Given where I grew up, I was under the impression for most of my life that everything I achieved was simply due to my awesomeness and a lot of it was. Now that I'm older, I can look back and say that being a fairly well-spoken white-guy has offered me a relatively frictionless life. It is impossible for me to say which opportunities I may have been denied or what other hurdles I would have had to clear if I was black. I have only walked in my shoes. But I listen in when black people describe their experiences and I try to process it all. I try to process what it means when a black mother tells her son he needs to be perfect because society (generally) won't tolerate anything less from a black male. There was a great NYT piece that statistically showed that black kids who have wealthy parents have much poorer outcomes and are much more likely to drop income levels than comparable white kids. What is missing in your scenario is education. If you told me both kids took their k-12 education seriously, then I would say the latter will have infinitely more privilege than the former. However, if the latter doesn't value their education, then it comes dicier. I like him/her. I think I will bother.
  5. I know it’s a fan’s prerogative to assume everyone else is a moron and they alone possess the intellectual horsepower to observe the obvious... but Daboll is a University of Rochester grad. He’s not a window licking dummy. I can assure you he’s well aware of the various simple observations/complaints so many have expressed here. Whatever he has done, he did for a rationale reason (whether it worked or not) - not because he is intellectually incapable of seeing Singletary good - Gore bad.
  6. I bought steak knives from that guy back in 2013.
  7. I was about ready to post something similar. Every year we have this discussion and there is always a large, large faction who treats this as a BS exercise.
  8. I don't think this is correct. NFL teams should be embracing the spirit of the Rooney Rule, not looking for ways to check a box. The rule isn't broken per se, the people in charge of implementing it just don't care. There should be active outreach measures looking to uncover great minority talent based on the fact that it is the right thing to do and not some pesky rule the league imposed upon the rich white dudes. I can imagine your hardship.
  9. I was screaming this too. I was hoping the review was going to catch this.
  10. The complaint I heard about those is that it is some sort of a closed system and it doesn’t allow you to configure it the way you want without going through their servers. There’s a lot of going back-and-forth with their servers which is weird to me.
  11. most likely bridged to a FiOS router that will perform the dhcp. I have too many dead zones with my old Apple time capsules which I have in the top and bottom floors. Two would probably be hardwired to the FiOS router, the middle floor unit probably not.
  12. i’m a little worn out reading anonymous reviews and summaries from tech blogs. Anyone have a good experience or even a bad experience with a specific product? Looking for something to cover three levels and 3000 ft.².
  13. Everything else is hot garbage though. Lol
  14. To use your argument against you... If the Bills weren't going to be able to drive three times against them, then going for the 2-pt conversion TWICE is the clearest path to victory. Because, according to you, they weren't going to be able to do it a third time.
  15. peter, Joseph and Mary.... for the love of God please get this straight… It does not matter when you do not convert the two-point conversion. If you don’t make it you have to go for a field goal at some point. Is that understood? Do you understand that once you missed the two point conversion that you have to get the ball back and score again? Do you understand that has to happen regardless of when you missed the two point conversion? Is this in someway not clear to you?
  16. I was the one citing 538 and Brian Burke's win probability algorithm. This quoted statement is incorrect however. Making what is most likely an inconsequential decision with faulty logic, doesn't make it defensible. The only defense for going for 1 is that current win probability algorithms (well, at least one) says the effect is small (in favor of going for 2) and may be within the margin of error of the algorithm.
  17. [This is an automated response] As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive topic titles. A single name if far too vague to post as a title and provides little insight into what specifically the post is talking about. The topic starter can edit the topic title line to make it more appropriate. Thank you.

  20. you cannot say you understand the math and then claim it was the riskier option. You literally are not willing to accept the math or having bother to look it up. Either way you’re just defending an incorrect opinion. Which is your prerogative.
  21. I miss read the 538 charts. They actually say it is slightly better to go for two but the effect is small and maybe not there at all.
  22. correct call. https://www.google.com/amp/s/fivethirtyeight.com/features/when-to-go-for-2-for-real/amp/
  23. lol. Ok champ. Sorry to hurt your feelings. There were multiple times he took sacks while in field goal range today. It was discussed on the broadcast. Sorry you missed them.
