  3. even if we get more RAM, I'm not certain this processor can handle the load like our community needs, so I will go w/ the machine I originally budgeted for. I have submitted the request, but do not have a time frame when it will be changed. Expect tomorrow to be a bumpy ride, since we had problems this weekend with lighter traffic. I appreciate your patience while we get this all straightened out...
  4. I don't know how it was installed, but any common mysql restart command would NOT work. Finally after an hour, I stumbled upon the reboot command.... Grrrrrr..... Maybe more ram won't help and I should just get the bigger machine.

  6. we also need another RAM bump. That should hopefully cut down on the long page load times. I have a request in for the pricing. If it is too much then we will go with the faster machine with 2x the RAM.
  7. we have not tweaked any of the performance settings yet. I see some potential issues, but need to differ to someone who knows more than I do. We will do the tweaking, examine where we stand and then either seek to upgrade the components or bite the bullet for a beefier rig.
  8. I'm hesitant to switch DNS entries until it is all working, so we will need to deal with the ugly IP for now. I am concerned that sometimes it takes 3-4 sec. to execute a command (but load is still very low). Not sure what that implies.
  9. it was a fairly rude switch wasn't it???? Hey, I figured not much was going on tonight, so let's just pull the plug and flick the switch!
  10. this weekend!!! you will probably have to login again. Sorry! Let's hope this is the final steps to stability. At least no one is suspending accounts here - we can run this machine into the ground if we wish! as always, keep an eye on things and report any problems.
  11. I'm debating whether to do some load testing this morning before they add RAM or not.... Either way - the end game is near!
  12. the good news is that they are reformatting the disk as we speak. I should have everything up and running tomorrow night. This will give us the weekend for the domain to point to the new machine. Again, this one may be a dog - we'll wait and see. If it is we can do a quick upgrade with the same host.
  13. I just had a bad chown command...., so I screwed my root account.
  14. I wacked our server and now I am waiting on support. Damn root level access....
  15. correct... trash that tire.
  16. I was given the choice between two rigs and I chose the less expensive one to see if that would be good enough. I have doubts that it will be, but at a savings of $420 - it is worth a shot. If we end up killing that machine - there is no problem in them switching us quickly to a beefier machine with minimal down time. So, be prepared that our initial switch may not go smoothly - I just have no idea what our REAL server requirements are and I don't want to piss your money away either.
  17. what browser are you using? try IE if you have it.
  18. only in a limited form. If the board gets out of control, I will have to turn it off again. So, please go back to work and SEVERELY limit your visits.
  19. I have disabled guest access to the forum and I now have the board set to turn off at a load of 3.0, instead of 6.0. So, you WILL get more server is busy errors. Just tread lightly today - VERY LIGHTLY (or I will have to turn it off again), while we try to get setup somewhere else.
  20. I'm not sure what is going on, but in previous years this thing filled up in a day...
  21. I think I have explained this many times... I am negotiating with our new host right now. Hopefully we will have a new server tonight, but it may take a week to get it all transferred.
  22. There are two contests - a traditional pick 'em and a survivor pool. Only sign up once, as you will be entered into both pools automatically. DO NOT sign up if you don't plan on playing the entire year, as there are others who will want your spot. The rules are the same as last year - NO Thursday games and we drop your lowest scoring week. There are some modest bonus points for perfect weeks, OT games, and MNF scores. Click on "Join" to sign up. Please read the ENTIRE registration instructions as it contains important information. Seriously!!!! You can start a private or public division by clicking on "Divisions". Owners of private divisions can distribute the password as they see fit. Divisions are just little pools within the larger pool just for fun. Good luck! Football Pool Home Page
