I think everyone is just reading into it too much. It was a simple foreshadowing to the conflict between Locke and Jack wrt the hatch. It was appropriate at the time because he was referring to the leg, but later we see it applies to the hatch.

Actually, that is a quaint notion that there is one set of "real problems" with this team. By what standards? I could list a set of problems if the goal was to be a bruising running team. I could list another set if the goal was to be a high-flying passing team. Yet another set could be listed if we wanted a Bears/Ravens shut down defensive team... There are many ways to win footballs games and depending how you want to do that - everyone is a problem in one of those scenarios.

For the record, Morten Anderson brought this up the night of the game or the next day. For some of us, this is 14+ years old.
