  1. [This is an automated response] This subject matter is being currently being discussed or has already been discussed in a previous thread. Please consider using the "search" function before starting new topics. Thank you.
  2. ok, PM me your paypal account... or however you want this done. bartshan's domination - you are up... a hat of your choice or a TBD hat?
  3. well, choose your prize... the cash, the hat of your choice, the TBD hat.
  4. I think this thread has played out. Thanks to all who replied...
  5. for this I deserve grief... and I'm sorry for being a dick earlier...
  6. I actually prefer the venting over someone stating the obvious... The venting is justifiable, stating the obvious is just not helpful. I'm just like everyone else here - I have a stack of things on my "to do list" a mile long and not enough time to get to it all. I realize what the path to hell is paved in and this time I got bit in the ass. No one was more upset at what happened than me. Trust me on that one. Thankfully, what was lost was relatively minor compared to what could have happened, but it did force me to make the necessary adjustments. So, that's the lemonade made from these lemons.
  7. You are correct. I did not have a reliable backup strategy, but as I mentioned earlier in this thread - that has already been taken care.
  8. the thread is a week old... I listened to what everyone had to say and weighed that against my own needs and decided it was worth it to me to try and give recovery a shot. The purpose of this thread was only to determine how much the community wanted the old posts/pm's/registrations back - it wasn't intended to be used as a lecturing platform on why I don't spend enough money on hardware. With that said, I'm very appreciative of how supportive everyone has been as I certainly deserved to be criticized, not praised.
  9. and yes I realize that my late night calculation was incorrect... The point was that I'm always amused when really smart people give me such sage advice such as "spend more money"... I'm glad they take their time out of their day from warning smoker's about their risks of cancer just to help lost souls like myself. and the discussion is moot now anyway. The dbases are backed up nightly now and soon all the site files will be too. The hard drive is already paid for and being shipped to me, so that I can attempt to recover some things that were lost.
  10. welcome to the real world where each hard disk is $30+/ month and the controller is $50/month.
  11. Actually, I seriously didn't want your opinion on this because telling someone to apply $200 towards a solution that could cost almost $175 EVERY month (depending on the number of drives in the RAID) is !@#$ing absurd. I was just hoping you would have said RAID 5, instead of being non-committal, but alas you didn't play along.
  12. and what kind of RAID array do you suggest?
  13. They took the failed drive out last night to send to me. They checked that the server was up, but failed to to check that we were serving web pages. Apache just needed to be started. Oh well, that is why I scheduled it for the middle of the night.
  14. Karma... because ALL YOUR FREAKING EMAIL IS BOUNCING.
  15. I actually hosted the Jills official page until 97 Rock took over... Doug Pagano: Buffalo Notes A. James Nichols: View from the Forty Eric Schweitz: Kultarr's Pouch Bob Lamb: Historical Pieces (Did I have a name for that?) Mark Fagin: Enemy Press Frank Mariani: Leather and Lace Tom Benson: History Me: Front page news and message board moderator John Holecek: The Inside Line Holy crap did that take every waking moment of my days...
  16. FWIW, I'm going to go ahead and purchase the drive. I'll just need to get someone in Maryland to let me hook it up to their window's box and install some recovery software... unless someone can convince me that making an ext2 partition on my mac and installing linux on it is less painful....
  17. That was a service where I would send teh drive to them. As I look more into it, I actually think if I can find a remote data recovery software/service - that is my best bet. Then I wouldn't have to buy the drive. It is current mounted and accessible - it is just one partition that is !@#$ed up. I just need to get the right software/service to help with the extraction. Any suggestions from the group?
  18. I was just quoted $500-$2400 depending on the amount of data they recovered. There are only two directories I need... with a total 1.5 GB of data... There are a couple of reasons I would like it back that extend beyond message board posts (basically a site redesign that was almost finished....) Does anyone know if a drive formatted for linux can be mounted in a Windows or Mac machine?
  19. Just as a thank you to those who decide to choose TSW as their place to talk. There are a lot of choices out there and we just want to let you know we recognize that fact and appreciate the support...
  20. wait a minute... what was that? I made all my graphics back then.
  21. well, those are 3 prizes from which to choose from, so winner gets 1st choice, 2nd place then chooses from the remaining two items, etc....
  22. ok, prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (winner gets choice, then 2nd, etc…): 1. $1/person competing in the pool. 15 players = $15, 50 players = $50 2. Buffalo Bills cap of choice. Just give me the link. (Normal retail hats only – no autographed, rare, or diamond encrusted ones) 3. TwoBillsDrive.com blue baseball cap Does that sound ok?
  23. Ok, I think the whole "jumping screen" business has to do with all the members who lost their avatars. They still have an avatar listed in their profile, but when the board tries to load the image - and can't find it - it causes the screen to "jump". This is why the problem seems to be lessening as more and more replace their broken avatars with good ones. So, if everyone could either grab a new avatar or remove the link to their of one - it would help rid of us of that annoyance.
  24. whoa... head swirling... experiencing intense vertigo....
  25. I didn't mean to imply that... I just posted this here so you could see it and maybe others would check out their addresses too.
