‘”I don’t know if we’ve ever had a coach that stresses the day to day improvement like he has. No coach has talked as much about the culture we’re trying to create. Guys just come in, recognize it, and adapt.’

McDermott taking the labels off his players
‘”It was pretty special. Getting contributions from everyone on the roster. A total team effort. Trae Elston filling in for Poyer, Jordan Mills, Khari Lee, guys that aren’t even playing. Unselfish guys, not necessarily household names. What we’ve been able to do is take label off of players, they’re not backups, they are our players.”‘
Milano trying to take advantage of his opportunity in Buffalo
‘”I think I’ve been doing a solid job so far,” Milano said. “There’s a lot of things I’ve got to correct, as we all do, but to come in and make some plays definitely felt good.’
McDermott’s way
‘I can be somewhat cynical about culture taking precedence over talent, but right now it is working for Sean McDermott and this Bills team.’
Bills blast the Raiders; stay perfect at home
‘Throughout the season the Bills defense has continued to force turnovers, and that did not stop today. Leonard Johnson laid a big hit on DeAndre Washington with just over 30 seconds to go in the first half, the ball popped up into the air and Bills rookie linebacker Matt Milano took it to the house for the touchdown.’
As Van Miller would say: ‘Do you believe it?’
‘The defense took the ball away three times, marking the fourth straight game Leslie Frazier’s crew has forced at least three turnovers. Buffalo now has 17 takeaways on the season, and just three giveaways, giving them an eye popping plus-14 differential in that category.’
The Bills keep playing the game the right way
‘If you’ve never been fortunate to be part of a team where a culture has helped make a team better, I can see why you wouldn’t know what it’s all about.’
Bills-Raiders: Arrow Up/Arrow Down
‘Taylor was his usual efficient-self, connecting on 20 of 27 passes (74%) for 165 yards and one touchdown. He didn’t turn the ball over, either, which is a Taylor staple. The Bills’ quarterback extended plays all afternoon, giving his receivers chances to get open or him to run. Several of the more important completions came after he scrambled and looked downfield. He also wasn’t sacked at all.’
Bills/Raiders preview: notes and stats
‘LB Preston Brown has 10+ tackles in 3 of past 4 games.’
Bills trade Marcell Dareus to Jacksonville
‘There are many ways to see the move as a surprise. From the timing, the return in the trade or that the Bills found a trade partner for Dareus’ contract that pays out $5.7 million for the remainder of 2017, $10.175 million in 2018, $11.585 million in 2019 and $14 million in 2020 and 2021.’
Beane: ‘It was a good move for the Bills and a good move for Marcell’
‘”Obviously, we wouldn’t have done it if we didnt feel that we had depth at the ‘d-tackle’ position. We kept 5 [defensive tackles), they all have experience. They played the Denver game, Marcell was injured. We feel good about those guys going forward this year… that’s why we felt compelled to go through with the move.”‘
Trade of Dareus yet another sign new Bills’ regime won’t be swayed from plan
‘Could he have regained their trust and confidence? Perhaps. But given his history, one already riddled with team and league suspensions, on top of questions about his commitment to the team and his own body, that would have taken two monumental leaps. The first from Dareus himself, to get to a place both physically and mentally he hadn’t been and still appeared unwilling to go. The other a leap of faith in him by McDermott and Beane.’
Brown: Feels good to have winning record, but have to keep improving
‘”It feels good to have a winning record. 4-2 is a good record right now, but we have got to keep improving,” Brown said with Howard Simon on WGR Friday morning. “We have to keep finding ways to win games, we have to get better on defense. It seems like every week now they’re scoring more and more points, so we’ve got to get back to what we were doing well with earlier in the season by limiting points. Hopefully we can continue to push out these wins.”‘
Bills, Raiders both dealing with injuries in secondary
‘For the Bills, cornerback EJ Gaines (hamstring) and safety Jordan Poyer (knee) both missed practice for a second straight day. Head coach Sean McDermott once again declared them both day-to-day and said their status for Sunday hasn’t been determined yet. Bills guard Richie Incognito also missed his second practice in a row with an ankle injury, but McDermott indicated it was more precautionary and that it was part of the plan for the week after Incognito suffered the injury during last week’s 30-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.’
Boldin wants to play again; Bills give permission to seek trade
‘It’s unknown what type of compensation the Bills would be asking for in return for Boldin.’
