That’s exactly how it played out Thursday with Peterman getting work with the first team, McCarron the second, then Allen getting third team reps.’

‘This is the first time we’ve had a chance to talk to McDermott since Richie Incognito was released from the Reserve/Retired list. The head coach said, “I wish Richie well and appreciate all he did for this organization.’

‘Most of what we saw from Allen in that one rookie practice were short throws to tights ends and running backs, with an occasional down field toss, almost all coming from basic formations with little or no motion. After almost every throw made that day, Daboll made it a point to talk with Allen about his footwork or what he saw with the defense. Of course there was also no contact allowed during those practices, as there won’t in these, either. However, since they have now entered Phase Three of the league’s offseason workout rules, 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.’

‘But I digress. The story of the Bills 2018 season will be about the quarterback position. I wouldn’t read much into the depth chart as OTA’s open up. I’d expect Allen to be third right now because that’s what general manager Brandon Beane said after the draft. I don’t think the workouts over the next few weeks will solve anything at that position. The only possibility would be Allen showing enough positives that the Bills decide to make the QB competition in the pre-season a two man race between Allen and AJ McCarron, leaving Nathan Peterman as the odd man out. The more likely scenario is the Bills giving all three guys a fair shot in August.’

‘Tuesday will be our first chance to see all the quarterbacks on the field. Josh Allen will be joined by A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman.’

‘Incognito has said that he is retired, but has sent out some tweets suggesting he could make a return. When he retired Incognito mentioned health issues with his liver and kidneys. Now if he wants to, he’s free to sign with any team in the NFL.’

‘”McCarron is a young guy that really hasn’t had a break. I think he’ll compete like hell, he’ll be a good leader in that locker room. I think the competitive edge he’ll have will at least let him start the season. I think the Bills have a good enough team to win plenty of games with him as the starter. That could make the transition to Josh Allen tough, which is why I think if Josh Allen is going to get playing time this year, he’s got to get it out of the gate.”‘
