‘The QB competition took a turn after last week’s preseason game against Cleveland. It now has become a two man race between Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen. Allen, the seventh overall pick, is getting the start in what is seen as the closest thing to a normal game. All eyes will be on Allen and how he performs against the Bengals defense. It’s obvious that this is Allen’s chance to claim the starting job as his on Sunday. This will be Allen’s first chance to fire passes to the likes of Kelvin Benjamin, Charles Clay and LeSean McCoy in extended action (he had one drive with Benjamin last week), as well as have the protection from the more consistent first offensive line.’

‘La Canfora added that the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Bears are teams he continues to hear are tied to Khalil Mack, along with the Bills and Jets. Eric Galko from Optimum Scouting reports that the New York Giants are also one of several teams interested in acquiring the star pass rusher.’

‘“He’s still learning,” Daboll said. “He’s still learning and this was a really good week for everyone, myself included, coaches included, to really hone in on the routine, more than plays or anything like that. This is a week for him and he’s going to prepare like he’s the starter, go through the routine, figure out how coach McDermott handles Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays. Same goes for me being new, of learning how we do things here, the practice reps that we get, the time in between scout team where we can go work on some other things. It’s a good experience in terms of the routine for him and myself and all the new guys around here.”’

‘“What we’ll do this week….it’ll be more of a normal, regular season type of practice,” McDermott told reporters two days after the team announced Allen would get the start Sunday. “This is kind of our mock week to some extent, not 100-percent. That’s how we’ll shape practice this week and that’s how we’ll do some of the reps, as well.”‘

‘Ryan will join Colton Schmidt on the roster at the punter position, and will likely compete to make the 53-man roster for the upcoming season. Cory Carter was the other punter on the roster to start the preseason, but suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on Friday against the Cleveland Browns.’

‘TMZ reports that Scottsdale Police obtained a search warrant on Incognito’s car, where they did find guns in his vehicle. Both his vehicle and the weapons were impounded.’

‘Allen has played very well this preseason. He’s gone 18 for 32, 176 yards, and two touchdowns through the air. The third preseason game is usually known as the dress rehearsal for the regular season.’

‘“Not at this point,” he said. “We really don’t (have a timetable). We’re just taking it one day at a time. I’m passing along information to you as I get it from our medical staff…..we’re still working through some things here. He will not practice today, so [there’s] no real change as far as that’s concerned.”’

‘The quarterback rotation as of now will be Josh Allen starting, with Nathan Peterman second out of the gate. Head coach Sean McDermott said earlier today that he and general manager Brandon Beane have already discussed the idea of bringing in a fourth quarterback for insurance purposes for at least the rest of the preseason.’

‘Quarterback A.J. McCarron left the game in the first half, but never came out of the locker room after halftime. The Bills announced he was being evlauted for a shoulder injury. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams injured his knee in the second quarter and was taken to the locker room. Punter Cory Carter was carted off the field with a knee injury.’

‘All five passers have thrown nearly 30 attempts, save for Mayfield and Allen, who have passed that threshold. While Mayfield is crushing everyone in yards and Darnold has barely thrown an incompletion, Allen is keeping up as the runner up in all categories and tied for the most touchdowns through two games in this preseason. Allen is showing the promise of a seventh overall pick in a promising draft class.’

‘Through two games of the preseason Nathan Peterman has been efficient, accurate, and… I want to say efficient again, in running the Bills offense. He’s shown the ability to recognize breakdowns in coverage resulting in downfield touchdown tosses to Kelvin Benjamin and Nick O’Leary. Both were well-identified by Peterman, with big windows to throw into, and touchdowns as a result. He’s shown an ability to get the ball out relatively quickly and through two games has completed 17 of 20 passes for 232 yards with two touchdowns and a pick.’

‘Allen and the first team offense had more success, driving down the field with a combination of some solid passes by the rookie and some big plays from running back Marcus Murphy. It was Allen who helped cap off the drive, with a touchdown pass to Rod Streater from 2 yards out to tie the game at 7.’

‘One of the things I’ve liked about Allen in the preseason is he doesn’t get flustered. On his second play, the play didn’t get communicated to him fast enough, but he kept his wits and called a timeout.’

‘Allen had such a nice night, people either seemed to forget about or not even pay attention to what Peterman did. He was excellent, going 8-for-10 for 113 yards and a touchdown. Through two preseason games Peterman is now 17-for-20 for 221 yards. Friday night he played most of the second half, mostly with the third-team offense, and threw the ball on time, with rhythm, usually finding the open receiver.’
