Bills lose preseason opener to Carolina, 28-23

‘The Bills offense took to the field first in the second half, this time led by the rookie Allen. The seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft went 0-of-2 on his first drive, but not from inaccuracy issues. Allen’s first pass of the drive was a 52-yard bomb downfield that was caught by undrafted rookie Robert Forster, but the throw was well out of bounds. The second pass was dropped at the sideline by rookie receiver Austin Proehl for, what would have been, a first down.’

Benjamin and Newton get into it before preseason tilt

‘It’s pretty safe to say if Kelvin Benjamin makes it to free agency, a reunion with Newton and the Panthers is not likely to happen.’

Capaccio: Bills-Panthers Arrow Up/Arrow Down

‘With Trent Murphy‘s injury making him unavailable to play, Lawson was presented with a huge opportunity to prove he’s a player this team can rely on to be a big contributor. He took that opportunity and ran with it showing up in both the run and passing game on defense. I really liked his effort all night long, which is something people have questioned about him in the past.’

Bills Brandon Reilly has always been the underdog

‘Reilly had an excellent preseason catching 11 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown. He was the darling of fans, many of which were critical when he was cut and brought back for the practice squad. Reilly said, “I was frustrated for a bit, but at the end of the day, I sat down and thought to myself, coming out undrafted, my ultimate goal was to make the practice squad last year so I did fulfill that, so it was frustrating, but same mentality, just keep working and it’s paying off.”’

Urlacher: Athletically, there is nothing Edmunds cannot do

‘”I like him. He’s got a lot of talent. Coach Babich is very high on him as well. His football IQ is way up there, and athletically there’s nothing he cannot do. He’s 6’4″, 6’5″, 235 pounds and runs as fast as he needs to. He can jump, too. The thing you worry most about with a young guy is the mental part of this game. From what I hear from Bob, he said this kid is smart and he gets it. He hasn’t made a lot of mental errors in training camp, which is great. He’s just a good kid overall.”‘

Preseason Week One – What to watch for in Bills vs. Panthers

‘Many eyes will be on Allen in particular, mostly since he is the one who can turn the competition upside down. If Allen impresses and dominates against lesser competition in the second half, the coaching staff will need to open Allen up to more reps with the first or second team. Allen could get more time with the first and second team if there are major struggles from McCarron or Peterman as well. With Allen likely to play out the second half, most fans will be ready to pick apart and analyze every pass by the seventh overall pick.’

Capaccio: Five position battles to watch in preseason opener

‘We know LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory are No. 1 and 2 on the depth chart and that’s not changing. After that, Travaris Cadet seems to have a leg up on Marcus Murphy and Keith Ford. But Ford has been turning heads the last week or so at camp and runs very hard. Murphy can be a home run threat. Taiwan Jones is also in this mix, but I expect him to be mostly a special teams contributor.’

Bills’ Coleman can’t wait to get started

‘Coleman has missed the whole spring and two weeks of camp. There are still four preseason games to learn what he needs to but the speedster knows he has his work cut out for him, “It’s difficult, but we’ve got great resources here, a lot of guys to help me, it’s a great group of guys here, I can just feel the vibe and we’re going to get it done, I’m going to do what I have to do.”’

McDermott yet to name starting quarterback for first preseason game

‘“We’ve got a plan. We’ll talk about that as we move forward here,” McDermott said. “I believe in sharing [it> with the players first. So that’s what we’ll do. We’ll share it, we’ll talk about it. We’ve got a plan, like I said, we’ll continue to talk about it as we get into our game and we’ll go from there.”’

Daboll: ‘It’s a privilege’ to be with the Bills

‘“It’s a privilege to be here. I have a lot of family members that live here,” recalled Daboll with Howard and Jeremy on Tuesday morning from training camp in Pittsford. “You’ve been gone for 20-plus years, to be here full-time has been a blessing.”’

Peterman heats up on Monday

‘Peterman got the bulk of the work with the ones, McCarron with the twos, and rookie Josh Allen was with the third team. It was the third practice in a row that Allen did not take any reps with the starting offense.’

Bills’ Beane thinks Coleman is a low risk proposition

‘“We’ll tell him how we do things here, what the expectations are. Sean and I will sit down with him once he passes a physical and we’ll layout our standard and what we expect. Its low risk and we’ll see what happens.”

Bills release unofficial depth chart

‘Much to no one’s surprise, 7th overall draft choice Josh Allen was not named an unofficial starting quarterback, nor even a co-starting quarterback. The organization is sticking to their word and want to make sure that the honor of starting quarterback is earned by Allen, and not given.’

One Buffalo. Two trades.

‘Its absolutely worth a shot by Beane and company. Marquise Goodwin was always injured and not productive enough with the Bills but he played all 16 games for San Francisco last season and is now a big part of the 49ers offense. If Coleman pans out he could be the number two receiver behind Kelvin Benjamin.’

Bills trade for WR Corey Coleman

‘Coleman has two years remaining on his rookie contract. The cash and cap hits for the Bills are $1.51 million (2018) and $2.04 million (2019). Since he was a 1st round pick, the team also has a fifth year option they can exercise for 2020.’
