‘If the Bills are going to have any success on offense this year, LeSean McCoy will have to have a big season. McDermott said, “In respect with LeSean, he’s developing, I’ve watched him since he was younger, I appreciate his leadership, he’s playing fast. He looks like he’s in better shape than a year ago.’

Beane – Peterman is a professional QB, he can play at this level
‘”We, in this building, never lost faith in who Nate is… Outside, people just wrote him off, even in this town or, obviously, nationally. I know when we said it would be a quarterback competition, most people were saying it’s a quarterback competition between A.J. (McCarron) and Josh (Allen). They kept leaving Nate out of there and we’re like ‘Trust us, Nate is doing well.’ When we left in June, we felt like Nate should still start with the 1s as we roll out in August.”‘
Playoffs???!!!(use your Jim Mora voice)
‘But you never know, right? This is why they play the games and maybe the Bills will be better than I think. If you’re looking for more good news, second place in the AFC East is entirely up for grabs and the AFC is the lesser of the two conferences so perhaps another wild card berth is not a pipe dream. At least the regular season is here and we can all be thankful for that.’
Reports: Bills to host three free agents on Tuesday
‘In addition to hosting Lynch, the Bills are expected to host free agent wide receiver Breshad Perriman and defensive end Nate Orchard for visits on Tuesday.’
Bills name their 2018 captains
‘The news was announced on the team’s scheduled off day. The Bills will be back on the field come Wednesday as they are just five days away from the beginning of the 2018 campaign against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.’
Bills name Nathan Peterman starting QB
‘The second year Peterman beat out rookie Josh Allen and A.J. McCarron via a three-way competition through training camp and preseason. McCarron was traded to the Oakland Raiders over the weekend.’
McDermott: Peterman “has certainly earned the right” to be the starting QB
‘The trade of McCarron, coupled with the Bills not adding another QB over the weekend, leaves the team with only two signal-callers for the time being. McDermott said that in addition to Allen being the No. 2 QB he will also run the team’s scout-team offense during the week against the team’s starting defense. He also mentioned Logan Thomas as a potential emergency QB if the need arises. Thomas played quarterback at Virginia Tech and briefly in the NFL before converting to tight end.’
Bills sign 8 to practice squad, claim 2, and release P Schmidt
‘Schmidt had been with the Bills since 2014. He had played in 64 games in a Bills’ uniform and recorded 322 punts, fifth most in team history. He ranks second in franchise history with a net average of 44.1 yards per punt.’
A look at the Bills roster after final cuts
‘In fact, after trading quarterback A.J. McCarron to the Oakland Raiders and releasing 34 others, the team now has 52 players and an open roster spot.’
Report: Bills trade QB A.J. McCarron to the Oakland Raiders
‘According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills get back a fifth round pick for McCarron. This is the second trade the Raiders have made Saturday. The team dealt All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears earlier in the morning. Oakland’s quarterbacks behind Derek Carr are now both former Bills, E.J. Manuel and A.J. McCarron. The team released Connor Cook Saturday afternoon.’
Bills announce cuts to get to 53 man roster
‘It’s important to remember that the final 53 man roster might not what the Bills will go into week one with, exactly. After cuts made around the league Saturday, there are about 1,200 players suddenly on the free agent market and the Bills could claim or sign any of them and then have to release a player they initial kept.’
Cosell: “My sense is if McCarron didn’t get hurt, he would probably be at the top of the depth chart”
‘”I think that McCarron was signed with the idea that he could well be the starting quarterback and then obviously they drafted Josh Allen. I think that in this case, it makes sense to keep three because you just don’t really have any idea about Nathan Peterman. You have a sense of what he can be, but he’s started one game in the league and Josh Allen has started no games in the NFL”‘
McCarron and the Bills come back to beat the Bears 28-27
‘McCarron then connected for another touchdown to cut the lead to 27-22, with a 6 yard touchdown pass to Malachi Dupre. However, the Bills again failed to score on a 2 point conversion. The Bills got the ball back again before the two minute warning, and McCarron and the Bills took the lead with 13 seconds left to complete the comeback thanks to a 6 yard touchdown pass to Keith Towbridge.’
Bills’ quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end battle still unsettled heading into preseason finale
‘At tight end, Charles Clay is the starter. But after him, you could list the next four in any order on a depth chart and it wouldn’t surprise me – Logan Thomas, Jason Croom, Khari Lee, and Nick O’Leary. Keith Towbridge is probably the sixth player there and a long shot to make it. However, all of these tight ends provide something that appeals to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, whether that’s a good matchup in the passing game or an ability to block on the line. It might simply come down to what type of tight end he and McDermott want to keep as they look at building their roster.’
Sal’s Sticks: Bills at Bears
‘I think McCloud was already safe going into the game, but some believed he was on the bubble, and if that’s the case, he needed to make some plays too show why he’s deserving of a roster spot. He certainly did, especially on special teams as a punt and kick return man. The rookie sixth round draft pick returned one kick for 32 yards and averaged over 14 yards on three punt returns, and all the while did it in tight traffic, making oncoming tacklers miss.’
