‘Hughes was an absolute monster coming off the edge in this one. He’s been the Bills’ most consistent and probably best defensive player through the first three games. Sunday, Vikings’ left tackle Riley Reiff was overmatched all afternoon. Hughes was flying by him seemingly with ease, wreaking havoc in the Minnesota backfield all day. He finished with a sack, another two QB hurries (to go along with three from last week), and a forced fumble.’

Bills at Vikings: Sal’s keys, notes and stats
‘There’s no doubt the Vikings will notice that on film and continue to try and befuddle him before the snap. Now that he’s seen that on film and what to watch for, hopefully he’s a little more comfortable – and quicker – to notice what he needs to to make the right reads and throws after the snap.’
Clayton – The biggest disappointment has been the defense
‘”You knew things were going to be challenged on offense because of the offensive line changes and a young quarterback that you have to see if he’s ready of not ready. But I think the biggest disappointment right now has been the defense, particularly in the secondary.”‘
McDermott: “Nothing has changed” as far as LeSean McCoy’s status
‘On whether or not LeSean McCoy’s personal life is becoming a distraction to the team: “I don’t believe so. Number one, LeSean reached out to me yesterday and informed me if the situation, which I appreciate. He’s done everything I’ve asked him to do, and other than that nothing has really changed in terms of where we were at training camp. I’ve been pleased with the way he’s handled himself since the start of training camp and all the way through and I look forward to having him on the field this week.”’
Ledyard: “[Allen] is right where I expected he would be”
‘”Things have been moving very fast for him. He isn’t recognizing things pre-snap quite yet. He’s leaving a lot of open guys on the field, and it seems like he doesn’t want to trust his arm. You’re seeing a lot of the same issues.”‘
Davis: “I do not belong on that field anymore”
‘Davis, for the first time since his historical decision, opened up to Foxworth about what was going on in his mind in the moments that led up to him walking away from the sport he played professionally for the better part of a decade.’
McDermott commits to Allen for foreseeable future
‘“We’re going to go with Josh,” McDermott said at his weekly Monday press conference. “I thought he did some good things, and he’s a young quarterback. Each game we expect him to get a little bit better and grow. So, that’s where we are as a football team and that’s where we are as an organization right now.”’
McDermott: “Nobody said this was going to be easy”
‘”Nobody said this was going to be easy. We are going through the process right now. There are lots of young players on this roster who are getting a lot of playing time; valuable playing time, at that. A lot goes into that in terms of their development. We will continue to take it one week at a time, put our best foot forward and continue to grow and develop.”‘
Report: McCoy has cracked rib cartilage
‘Later on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter added to Rapoport’s earlier tweet, saying that McCoy has cracked rib cartilage, which will likely leave him as questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.’
Williams: “[Yesterday] was a tale of two halves”
‘”There is some growth there, but we are obviously nowhere near where we need to be.”‘
Short and sweet
‘If I were more creative, I would’ve crafted those sentences into a haiku.’
FINAL – Bills fall to 0-2, lose to Chargers 31-20
‘The Bills got the ball to start the second half and fans got a treat, as Allen drove the Bills right down the field to get the Bills their first touchdown of the season. Chris Ivory scored from 1 yard out, finally giving the Bills their first touchdown of the season and cutting the Chargers lead to 28-13. The Chargers added a late field goal to put the game away, 31-13.’
Bills’ CB Vontae Davis leaves at halftime, then retires
‘Alexander, a thirteen year veteran, went on to say he had never seen that happen before at any level of football. “Pop Warner, high school, college, pros,” he said, “(I’ve) never heard of it. Never seen it. And it’s completely disrespectful to his teammates. He didn’t say nothing to nobody.”’
Mixed bag for Allen in 1st start
‘I thought Allen did a good job of hanging in the pocket, better than he did last week in Baltimore. I felt he became too jumpy against the Ravens but he looked more comfortable this week even though he was under pressure on numerous drop backs. When he had time in the pocket and he did on a number of throws, he seemed to be going through his reads in an attempt to find an open receiver. There were times he would load up and appear ready to unleash a deep ball but he didn’t have an open target downfield. He did throw the ball deep a few times and hit on a 57 yard bomb to Zay Jones who did a good job of coming back for the pass.’
Bills’ Allen showed what he was made of
‘Allen ran to the sideline and started yelling to everybody on the defense that he was with them and he knew they could stop the Chargers. He was emotional and showed even though he’s a rookie, he’s a leader.’
