‘We saw the bad and good of Allen through three games. Against the Patriots, we certainly saw most of the bad.’

Patriots at Bills: Sal’s keys, notes and stats
‘We know Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick likes to take away what a team does best. Last season, the Bills best offense was Josh Allen running, so that’s what Belichick did. In the six games Allen played after returning from his elbow injury, he had at least nine carries in every one of them, except for one – at the Patriots. In that game, the then-rookie QB only carried the ball five times, and for only 30 yards. Belichick made him try to win from the pocket. Allen was 20-for-41 for 217 yards, with 1 TD and 2 interceptions. Allen’s off to a much better start this year throwing the football, completing 64.1% of his passes. He’ll have to continue on that path, at the very least, against the Patriots defense, because Belichick will force him to.’
Patriots Are Wary of NFL’s Most Rowdy Fan Base
‘“It is tough. Coming in as the visiting team, their fans and the energy in there, they do a good job of making sure you don’t feel at home, or feel welcome,” Devin McCourty said Friday on Dale & Keefe with Andy Hart. “We know it will start as soon as we turn into the stadium and we drive through all the tailgates and we try to get around to that back entrance where we go in. We will get a little bit of everything — the middle fingers, ‘you suck’ — we will get it all.”‘
McDermott: It starts with every man doing his job
‘”It starts with every man doing his job. I know that’s kind of a cliche, but that’s true. You see a lot of teams that come out against the Patriots, because of the success they’ve experienced, and they try and do too much. So, we have to make sure we come in, and every man does his job, and we play disciplined football. That’s the challenge. You try and take away the pass, they beat you with the run. You try an commit to the run, they beat you with the pass. They’ve been together a long time, from a continuity standpoint, and so with that, they can spin the dial and do some things.”‘
Devin Singletary returns to practice for Bills
‘After practice, head coach Sean McDermott said the rookie “did some good things out there” and “did some good work.” Singletary was officially limited from a pracrice participation standpoint. The running back missed the team’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 2 against the New York Giants.’
Smith: The respect level for the Patriots is ‘through the roof’
‘It will only be the second-career game for Josh Allen against the Patriots, who missed last season’s Monday Night Football matchup at New Era Field as he recovered from an elbow injury. Allen did face the Patriots in their Week 16 matchup in Foxboro, where he struggled a bit by going 20-of-41 for 217 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.’
Singletary, Kroft both out of Wednesday’s practice
‘WR John Brown, OT Ty Nsekhe, DE Lorenzo Alexander, and DE Jerry Hughes all have veteran rest days.’
Harrison Phillips is done for the year with a torn ACL
‘Now that Harrison Phillips is done for the season, the Bills at defensive tackle are down to Ed Oliver, Jordan Philips, and Star Lotulelei. Although they have a couple of players at the position on the practice squad.’
Bills lose the lead, come back and beat the Bengals, 21-17
‘With less than 5 minutes to go, the Bills offense woke up from their rough second half, marching 78 yards in 7 plays to retake the lead, headlined by Knox’s 49 yard catch and run and Allen escaping a sack to put the Bills inside the Cincinnati 10 yard line. Gore would finish off the drive with a 1 yard run to end the drive and give the lead back to the Bills, 21-17.’
Bills fans put through the wringer
‘Your dream scenario has now played out Bills fans. A 3-0 start with the New England Patriots coming to New Era Field next. It will make a a fun week around Western New York as we wonder whether or not the Bills can beat Tom Brady, in a game where he plays from start to finish, for just the third time in his greatest of all time career.’
Allen and Jones exposing issues in draft evaluation
‘While it is just a year and three weeks in for Josh Allen, and one game for New York Giants rookie QB Daniel Jones, the two heavily scrutinized signal-callers are showing the conclusions many organizations, draft media, and fans drew were too premature and close-ended for the timing of their careers.’
Arrow Up/Arrow Down – Bengals at Bills
‘The Bills played maybe the best 30 minutes of defense I’ve seen in my now six seasons as the team’s radio sideline reporter. They were absolutely outstanding from the very first snap until the final play of the half. The Bengals totaled 76 yards in the first two quarters.’
Bengals at Bills: Sal’s keys, notes and stats
‘Cincinnati wide receiver John Ross is currently second in the NFL with 270 yards receiving. The league’s leading receiver, D.J. Chark of the Jaguars, already played his week three game. So, Ross is the two-week leader. He’s also tied for the NFL lead with three receiving touchdowns and is second with an outstanding 24.55 yards per catch. With the Bengals struggling to run the football so far this year, they’ve been attacking vertically, and often with Ross, who played a total of eleven games his first two years due to injuries. The Bills secondary prides themselves on not allowing the big play. The incredibly fast Ross will be their toughest challenge yet. How they deal with him, and what he’s able to do or not do, could go a long way in determining the outcome of this game.’
McDermott: ‘We’re off to a good start,’ but we still need to improve the fundamentals
‘”Campers have already been pulled in earlier in the week, and I drove out of the parking lot last night and I’m watching people playing cards in a tent in one of the camper sections there. I think that’s the way it should be. It’s a great vibe. People are spending time with people. You see friends coming together, families coming together. People that don’t even know one another getting to know one another and becoming friends. To me, that just really typifies Buffalo.”‘
Kroft injures ankle at Bills practice
‘Just one day after his first full practice in a Bills uniform, tight end Tyler Kroft “banged his other ankle,” according to head coach Sean McDermott. Kroft has yet to play for the team after signing as a free agent in March. He broke his foot on the first day of OTAs and has been out ever since. McDermott couldn’t provide an update when he told the media after practice, saying he was about to get more information. Kroft had been on track to make his Bills debut against his former team when they host the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at New Era Field.’
