Bills coach McDermott lists quarterback Josh Allen as ‘week to week’ with elbow injury
‘Anderson did work with Daboll in Cleveland.’
Depending on Josh Allen’s injury, Bills may need to start Derek Anderson at QB
‘It’s easy to look squarely at general manager Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott, who put this unit together, believing this collection of unimpressive players could perform at an NFL-caliber level. However, we all know there are extenuating circumstances, namely the disastrous salary cap situation, which includes $54 million in dead money, money that has prevented the Bills from signing potential replacements.’
Bills defense can’t overcome another awful offensive day in loss to Texans
‘We are witnessing before our eyes, week after week after week, one of the worst offenses the 59-year-old Buffalo Bills have ever fielded.’
Bills’ quarterback situation has hit rock bottom and Peterman, Benjamin need to go
‘Yeah, that’s what Cottrell was trying to do, stir something up. Sorry, but I’m going with what she heard. And given that Benjamin has 10 catches for 146 yards in six games this season, McDermott and Beane should go with her version, too, and ship this guy out of town.’
Sunday report: Bills are unlikely to trade LeSean McCoy
‘Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network wrote that if there were talks between the sides, they never amounted to much, mainly because the Bills aren’t interested in trading McCoy at this time. In fact, according to one of Rapoport’s sources (likely McCoy’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus), the Bills have indicated they would like to keep McCoy for 2019 as well, the final year of the five-year, $40 million contract extension they gave him when they acquired him from the Eagles in 2015.’
Report card
‘It has become comical (or just sad, depending on your point of view) just how bad the Bills are at the most elemental things on offense. They do not have a functioning quarterback, they do not have receivers who can get open, and the game plans aren’t helping. It’s awfully tough to win under these circumstances. Josh Allen was once again terrible before leaving with an elbow injury and 84 yards passing. And then Peterman, after stunning us all with a go-ahead TD pass, returned to form with a game-losing pick six. Kelvin Benjamin made a 39-yard catch and took most of the rest of the day off. Zay Jones caught the TD from Peterman, but finished with three catches. The Bills had 129 net yards passing, so their ranking of dead last in the NFL will not improve.’
Trade LeSean McCoy? What are the Bills waiting for?
‘The Bills rank fifth in the NFL in terms of snaps played by first- and second-year players. Led by rookie quarterback Josh Allen, the future isn’t now, it’s a couple years (or more) from now.’
Keeping control of Texans stars like Watt, Watson will be critical for Bills
‘Texans 24, Bills 10.’
Bills vs. Texans: How to watch, listen, plus things to know before kickoff
‘The Bills need to run well to win, and they also need to run better. Last week, they had nine yards on their first 11 first-down rushes and finished with only 54 yards on 20 first-down attempts. Also, according to Football Outsiders, the Bills are the worst team in the NFL in terms of second-level yards gained per attempt (yards gained in the 5-10-yard range downfield) at 0.75.’
Texas-sized showdown: Bills corner Tre White vs. Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins
‘What’s remarkable is that the former Clemson Tiger has accumulated these Hall of Fame career-building numbers playing with nearly a dozen different middling quarterbacks: Matt Schaub, Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, T.J. Yates, Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiler and Tom Savage.’
Bills taking it slow with Josh Allen, but is that the right way to go in his development?
‘“He’s a young player, so I think if you give a young player too much information, sometimes that can cloud them up,” said Daboll. “There’s a fine line between not giving them enough and then giving them too much. Each week I think we try to balance it the best we can in terms of the amount of plays, the responsibilities.”’
Rent-a-quarterback Derek Anderson settles in at Bills practice
‘“I have a trainer in Arizona and there was interest from some teams during free agency. I just didn’t feel comfortable,’’ said Anderson, who joined the Bills at practice Wednesday at the team’s New Era Field training complex. “I decided, ‘OK, I’ll just hang out,’ and I’ve been chasing around my three kids. My wife was ready for me to go back to work.’’’
Bills coach Sean McDermott quick to defuse LeSean McCoy trade rumors
‘“I shouldn’t have gotten traded anyway; I was killing stuff,” McCoy said on the back end of earlier comments he made about the trade rumors that are circulating around him this week.’
Bills sign QB Derek Anderson, believing he can help Josh Allen grow
‘Clearly, though, Anderson is going to come aboard and it is expected that he will serve as a mentor to rookie Josh Allen, as well as probably be the Bills’ primary backup quarterback once he gets up to speed on the offensive system.’
