Two Bills Drive

'Any hope that Zay Jones would take advantage of Sammy Watkins' absence this spring needs to be put on hold. Jones went down with a knee injury earlier this week and is considered week-to-week. Luckily, Jones sprained his knee and didn't do major damage, so the Bills dodged a bullet. However, these reps in the spring would have been valuable for him to get a jump start on winning the No. 2 receiver job.'

'"He's had a heck of a career," Beane said. "He rose to a level of VP of Player Personnel. He's interviewed for multiple GM positions. To have a guy with his experience and leadership and high character, we talked about that in the interview. What type of player are we looking for. Lake understands that it is the guy on the field, but as the assistant college director, we're going to make sure our college scouts are working the background and the character on prospects. What type of man are we getting when we scout these guys?"'

'Jones, the 37th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, is expected to compete for Buffalo's No. 2 wide receiver job this summer. His biggest competition will be veteran Andre Holmes.'

'“Right fit or not fit for the system, he’s a good player. He throws the ball well and he’s athletics so he can do some stuff we want to do when we move him out of the pocket,” Dennison said.'

'Very early on in the offseason, but there’s already a few shoving battles during practice. Max Valles, who got into it a couple times during last year’s training camp, got into it again this offseason with rookie tight end Keith Towbridge. Next, Shaq Lawson and right tackle Jordan Mills did. After practice, Lawson said it was a no big deal.

'White's deal is worth just short of $10,091,110 million for four years, with a signing bonus of $5,478,989, according to the website Spotrac.'

'The specifics of the injury were not shared by the Bills, but the No. 37 overall pick was hurt in Tuesday's organized team activity session and sat out the next two days. The team described the injury as a sprain.'

'This has been a brand new experience for White and the rest of the rookies. He said, “The first day when I got into the first group, it was like a blur like flash, but now after I got a couple of reps, I feel like I’m comfortable and I know what I’m doing now, I know where my help is, so if I continue on that road, it’ll make my job so much easier.”'

'Tyrod Taylor congratulated right after he was drafted with a text. Taylor said, “He’s a great player. I watched him compete against Virginia Tech for a couple of years and I actually sat down and watched all the receivers that came out this past year and I was excited about Zay.”'

'Wide receiver Sammy Watkins was on the field for Thursday's session, but did not participate in any activities as he continues to rehab from offseason foot surgery.'

'Dawson, 45, spent last season with the Cleveland Browns as a National Scout, but spent nine years with the Tennessee Titans beforehand in their front office. With the Titans, Dawson climbed the ranks, going from Director of Pro Personnel to Vice President of Football Operations to Vice President of Player Personnel.'

'Last year, the glaring weakness along the offensive line was right tackle Jordan Mills. It became a focal point of the offseason to try and fix — to which the Bills even chased a high-priced free agent in Ricky Wagner to try and solve the problem. They ended up getting Dion Dawkins in the draft in the second round, but because of Cordy Glenn's injury, Dawkins played left tackle and Mills started with the first-team at right tackle… and players were zooming by him.'
