Two Bills Drive

'After going undrafted in 2013, he was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans where he spent time on their practice squad. Over the year or so he was on the practice squads for Kansas City, Chicago and Washington, before landing a role with Washington in 2015 as a return specialist.'

'“He would love to come. He likes Tyrod and the offense. He knows what type of player I am and I know what type of player he is. He could really help us out,” said McCoy. “I think him and Sammy on the outside would be a nightmare. Then you put in Charles Clay… we’ll see.”'

'Putting the Bills potential interest, beyond players in their locker room, aside, here’s a look at what other clubs might be interested and why they could be a good fit for a quality talent like Maclin.'

'"You can see the roster taking shape," Polian said. "It's going to take a little while. I know people don't want to hear that, but it's going to take a little while. Sean's got to install his way of doing things and he already has, obviously, but it takes a full season for that to take hold. He's going to have to get to know the players, so this year will kind of be a breaking-in year.'

'"I travel now, thank God. I speak more than I ever have by far, but when you go places, you see people that have the same cancer you have had," he said. "You see other people struggling and realize you don't have it that bad. I'm blessed that I'm able to go out and hopefully make a difference for others. I do understand that some people have that attitude that they're done, no more, but if I can change their mind and give their family a little more hope, then that's what I'm going to do."'

'Bills coach Sean McDermott knew Maclin from their two seasons together in Philadelphia. McDermott can assume his mentor, Chiefs coach Andy Reid, had good reasons for dumping Maclin. By signing him, Beane would run the risk of veering from his own message.'

It’s like you’ve gone home again,’ ’’ said Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian, 74, the architect of those clubs. “But it’s time for a new generation of stars to step forward and make their mark. We’ve done our thing. Let’s have new guys step forward and do things and get that same feeling of excitement and pride that we’re so happy to have been a part of.’’'

'"He's a young 29," Thomas said at Jim Kelly's annual charity golf tournament. "I think he's a young 29. I know everybody says, 'Oh, he's 30 that's when he goes down.' With this guy, I don't see it. I don't see it happening."'

'“(McDermott) wanted to know what we knew, he wanted to know what we thought. I like what they’ve got. Now it’s just a matter of the team getting the talent around him, or getting his type of guys, and learning the system,” Talley said.'

'NFL players are prohibited from betting on NFL games and making promotional appearances at casinos, but are allowed to wager on other team sports, per the league’s gambling policy, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed in an e-mail to the Review-Journal.'

'McCoy and Maclin spent six years together with the Philadelphia Eagles. As recently as a couple weeks ago, McCoy stood up in Maclin's wedding.'

'“Would love to have a guy like him on our team competing and coming out and making plays for us,” said Taylor, who was at Frontier Field with several other Bills to take part in LeSean McCoy’s annual charity softball game and home run derby. “Would especially mean a lot to our wide receiver room, putting another veteran guy with a whole bunch of talent and still potential left to reach his best. I would love to have him.”'

'Buffalo's interest in Maclin should come as no surprise. Wide receiver is one of the Bills' weakest positions in terms of talent and depth.'

'"Not to brag, but I was the first guy he talked to when the news broke," McCoy said at his charity softball game in Rochester Sunday. "I kind of understand because I've been through it. Maybe not to the extreme of being released, but being traded. That's basically telling you, 'You're not good enough for us.' I understand that. He was hurt, but I played with him and I know the guys in the locker room and I know he can help us out tremendously. I've been doing my recruiting already. Don't be surprised if it happens."'

'"You don't know the reason, but from what I know and what I've seen of Jeremy Maclin, he's definitely a great player,” Taylor, who was competing in McCoy’s event on Sunday, said to reporters. “Would love to have a guy like him on our team competing and coming out and making plays for us.
