Two Bills Drive

'But one thing we know the two men have in common: A Buffalo roster with a whole lot more questions than answers, and as maddening as it is, several of the concerns Ryan dealt with last season are now McDermott’s problem as the Bills arrive at St. John Fisher College for their 18th training camp on the Pittsford campus.'

'“With not having traditional two-a-days like we had, when you needed four and five quarterbacks, there’s just not enough time to have four and give them all the reps they need," Beane explained. “We would’ve been doing Cardale a disservice, so we found a win-win situation.".

'It has often been said that no one sells hope better than the Buffalo Bills. It's true, and Rochesterians lap it up when the team comes to our town. But sometimes hope is accompanied by genuine and well-placed excitement, and that's the case this year, because the buffoonery of Rex Ryan has been replaced by the hard-boiled, no-nonsense discipline of Sean McDermott.'

'Village Bakery and Café: Tucked back behind a Starbuck's in the Village of Pittsford, this locally owned gem serves up hearty breakfast fare like open-faced egg sandwiches and stuffed French toast. It also has delicious pastries for breakfast on the run. At lunchtime, there are soups, sandwiches and salads. At 5 State Street, the Village Bakery and Cafe is open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Parking in the narrow lot can be tricky; you may want to park at a public lot nearby and take a short walk through the charming village.'

'“I feel great going out there competing and having fun, getting back in the work space, getting used to being out there with the team,” said Watkins, who has not spoken to the media since the end of the 2016 regular season. “I’m just going out, whatever they want, I’m going to do. They’ve got a plan and I’m following it.”'

'"In terms of Adolphus, right from the start has been great in terms of communication from the time that incident unfolded with us. Brandon and I both met with Adolphus and we wanted to know the full story. That's the key. Every situation is a little bit different. That said, this is obviously, as everyone knows, an open legal matter so I'm not going to go in any more detail at this time. I can't do that. I was disappointed."'

'"It was a good visit. We're going through that process. Those decisions normally take time on both ends so we're going through the process and we'll just see how it plays out."'

'"Obviously Colin, he's had great success in the past," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. "I've not looked into him or anything like that. We've had plenty of quarterbacks here. I like the mesh of the three that we have. We liked Cardale, but our our goal right now is just to let these three go and see how it goes at camp.'

'"I think it's a win-win, and that's what you want in a trade," Beane said at training camp Thursday. "A: Anthony Lynn's out there. He knows Cardale. He has a familiarity. I think that started this. They're watching what we're doing. Cardale's the fourth as we left on vacation. With not having two-a-days, traditional two-a-days like we had. Back then you needed four, maybe five quarterback. There's not enough reps really to have four and give them all the reps they need. I think we would have been doing Cardale a disservice, so we found a win-win situation. He's a great young man and I wish him the best of luck out there."'

'"We've put together between Shone (Gipson) and our training staff and the coaching staff, a rep count that will build up and at times come down a little bit just based off of the plan from the outset," McDermott said. "But we have to be flexible with that and see how he feels. That starts tonight."'

'There will be plenty of time to discuss whether Taylor is or isn't worthy of being the team's future at quarterback. His play in the regular season will dictate that conversation, and whether the front office decides to open up the check book will determine the answer to this question.'

'This shouldn't be viewed as Jones slighting the Bills. In fact, he tweeted out a message of gratitude toward Bills fans after he was traded.'

'"I think any coach would be," Rex said. "I've never had that situation, but most coaches don't have that. He has a great owner. Terry is so passionate about his teams. I felt bad that I let him down, never got it done the way I wanted to. But he is a great man. He treated me well. The answer was 'yes' to many things that I asked for. Not all thing, but many things that I asked for.'
