Two Bills Drive

'If Cordy Glenn cannot go in Week 1, rookie Dion Dawkins is the Bills' contingency plan. Buffalo started Dawkins on Saturday night and the rookie was beat early in the game. The play saw Tyrod Taylor get sacked and hit his head hard off the ground. Taylor would leave the game with a concussion. It wasn't a great start for Buffalo's backup plan at left tackle.'

'“I’m just going to continue to put one foot in front of the other and just stay focused,” Dareus said.'

'McDermott said he and general manager Brandon Beane have had discussions on the possibility of signing another quarterback for Buffalo's game Thursday against Detroit.'

'He called the decision to order Dareus to travel home on his own as being "the right thing for this football team," and also something he didn't want to deal with at that time because he was focused on preparing for the game.'

'"We're talking about it," McDermott said Sunday. "We haven't come to a decision at this point in time. We're running the gamut of the different style quarterbacks out there, who's been in the system, who hasn't, younger, older. We're still going through that process right now."'

'“Really we’re moving forward, that’s where I stand on it and we’re looking forward to getting out here on the practice field.” McDermott added, “Everyone needs to know what’s expected and everyone’s accountable, myself included, so I’m not looking to send a message other than do the right thing.”'

'The guys up front had a tough time moving the Ravens’ defense and creating space. The Bills run game averaged only 3.2 yards per carry and gained only 79 yards all night. They only gave up two sacks, but when they went to pass, whatever QB was in was under too much pressure, too often, too quickly.'

'The conversation we had, we spoke in deep, deep thought. We spoke even after practice and we have a thorough understanding. So, we’re just going to continue to move forward with what we’ve got going and make this run this year.'

'“Me and the coaches we all spoke and we’re very clear about things moving forward,” Dareus said. “And that’s what we’re going to do. We’ve got a clear understanding now.”'

'“I got all of the reps (Sunday), so that’s helpful for me,” Peterman said. “The more reps I can get, the more ways I can see a live defense against our plays, and how they react, especially against a one-defense, where they react pretty fast. I think it was helpful for me.”'

'“Well it’s concerning. It is concerning,” said head coach Sean McDermott. “Anytime guys are injured it’s concerning. That said they’re in the protocol and I really can’t go any further as far as those two are concerned. But we’re hopeful at this point that everything works out.”'

'“There was really good competition,” said McDermott. “The thing you love about it is, just like the game, the guys battled all game long. Third game in a row that they battled all game long…I thought E.J. [Gaines], as well as some other players, are competing at an extremely high level. They’re going to make for some tough decisions, and that’s good.”'

'“I like the way, you know, we were able to handle the sudden change,” McDermott said. “I thought Nate came in and was poised. All reports from the huddle were he was very composed in the huddle and handled himself well. I thought the offense moved at times and at times we didn't move well enough.”'

'He was slow to get up, and headed to the medical tent on the Bills' sideline with trainers. A short time later, the team announced he was being evaluated for a possible head injury. Rookie Nathan Peterman replaced Peterman for the Bills' next series.'
