‘“This week, it’s more about smarts and intelligence,” Bills General Manager Brandon Beane said of scouting the safety class. “What are they walking in with? And if they’re not walking in with a lot, is that because they couldn’t do it, or that’s just not what the school asked him to do?”’

Combine notebook: Giants GM Joe Schoen believes he knows Bills GM Brandon Beane’s tells
‘“Negotiating with Brandon is always difficult, because I sat in that room multiple times and watched him negotiate. So, I know his tells, I know when he’s BSing me, and it’s probably a little bit to my advantage negotiating with him,” Schoen said at the NFL scouting combine. “It’s good to have allies in this business, and if it makes sense, we were able to get that deal done pretty quick. Brandon is one of my good buddies. I look up to him. He does a great job there, and it’s always good to call him if there’s a player we’re interested in, specifically somebody we drafted and had intimate knowledge of. It’s good negotiating with him.”’
Bills need to draft an explosive wide receiver early in the NFL Draft: Here are options
‘So Diggs remains the No. 1 receiver, but the Bills have a dearth on the depth chart. They are prepared to lose Gabe Davis in free agency, Trent Sherfield is also a free agent who likely won’t return, and it’s very possible they cut Deonte Harty in order to save about $4.2 million on their tight salary cap.’
Buffalo Bills not expected to pursue former No. 2 overall pick (report)
‘Buffalo could turn to free agency, the draft or the trade market to find a new No. 2 quarterback, but don’t count on the Bills to pursue one quarterback from within their division. Zach Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was recently given permission to seek a trade by the New York Jets. The quarterback could likely be had for a sixth or seventh round pick, but one Jets beat reporter does not see Buffalo in the market for Wilson.’
Bills prefer instincts over speed as search begins to eventually replace safeties Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer
‘Hyde and Poyer are coach Sean McDermott’s most beloved players and not just because they’ve been with him since he arrived in Buffalo in 2017 nor because the Bills have played without both just four times since then. The duo has the instincts, intelligence and toughness McDermott covets in safeties.’
Bills’ McDermott, Beane face new challenges in 8th season
‘”We’re frustrated as ever to win, and we’re going to do everything we can,” Beane said at the NFL scouting combine this week. “Every year is its own year. And we know the challenge ahead that when you won the division four times in a row that it’s getting harder. It’s not going to get easier.”‘
What Brandon Beane will be looking for if Bills need new starting safety
‘“I think instincts are really big at safety,” Beane told reporters Tuesday here at the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “If you’re telling me, ‘you can have an athletic guy that’s a 4.3 (in the forty yard dash), 4.4 safety but he doesn’t have instincts,’ I’ll take the 4.6 guy with instincts, ball skills, and a little less range.”’
Opinion: 2024 State of the Bills: Linebacker
‘Bernard enters year three as the unquestioned starter at the MIKE position, and is under contract for two more years, still on his rookie deal. It’s a great situation for the team to have him and Milano locked up for multiple years.’
These wide receivers from the 2024 NFL Draft could be great fits for the Buffalo Bills
‘Since taking over as the Buffalo Bills general manager in 2018, Brandon Beane has never used a first round pick on a wide receiver. He’s never used a second or third round pick on a wide receiver either.’
