What they’re saying | Bills earn praise for 2023 free agency moves
‘”The Bills bring back one of the best safeties in football while also delaying the need for at least two more years. GM Brandon Beane drafts ahead for future need, so safety could still be a midround target, but this keeps the team’s first-round pick free for a “best player available” addition. Keep an eye on wide receivers, should one fall.”‘
Bills’ free agent signings show close watch on compensatory pick formula
‘Hence, the Bills have lost more than they’ve gained. The big loss of Edmunds will net the Bills a third-round compensatory pick in 2024, as long as the Bills don’t sign anyone else who qualifies to count against them. A team has to lose more “qualifying” free agents than it signs to be eligible for a compensatory pick, regardless of the size of the contracts.’
Bills Mafia movie begins filming on Buffalo’s East Side
‘The film takes viewers to the streets of Buffalo and into landmarks like Mike’s Lounge, the oldest black-owned bar on the East Side and, in the movie, the lifeline for these dedicated Bills fans.’
For Bills executive Ron Raccuia, year since stadium agreement feels ’15 minutes … or 15 years ago’
‘“Every day when Kim’s not here is different,” he said. “Terry is here and Kim is doing better, and that’s fantastic news for everybody, not just the Bills, but for the league because Kim is a huge leader in a lot of league initiatives and is widely respected in league circles. We miss her every day.”’
Bills Mailbag: What’s left on Brandon Beane’s to-do list this offseason?
‘I’d like to see the Bills do more at wide receiver. Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield look like upgrades as the fourth and fifth receivers, respectively, but there is still a hole at either No. 2 or No. 3 receiver, depending on how you view Gabe Davis. I view him as a fine No. 3, provided the Bills can find a slot receiver who can handle a big target share. I’d also like to see another offensive tackle brought in – preferably one who can compete with Spencer Brown for the starting job at right tackle. Defensively, by far the biggest hole on the roster is at middle linebacker after the team lost Tremaine Edmunds to the Bears. I’d say that’s a glaring hole in the projected starting lineup. Edge rusher is another position that looks as if it could use a bit more depth. Perhaps that comes if the team re-signs Shaq Lawson, who remains a free agent. Lastly, one more tight end to compete for the No. 2 job behind Dawson Knox wouldn’t be a bad idea.’
Q&A with Mike Tomon, Legends co-president and COO
‘We’ve been a company for 15 years now and have been growing a platform to really be a premium experiences company that provides an end-to-end solution. When we look at the Bills opportunity, this is why this platform has been built – to be an executioner on behalf of the team’s vision. To be subject matter experts on this project has been important.’
Source: Buffalo Bills to host Tennessee OT Darnell Wright on top-30 visit
‘Wright recently had his pro day at Tennessee and the Bills were in attendance to get an up close look at the prospect. In terms of his athletic traits, Wright has been compared to future Hall of Fame tackle and former Bills tackle Jason Peters.’
Which Buffalo Bills remain unsigned over two weeks into free agency?
‘Over two weeks into free agency, nine Bills remain who free agents. Here’s a look at who is still available.’
Damien Harris ‘a good pickup’ for Bills, coach says
‘Replacing Singletary with Harris gives the Bills a little more bulk in the backfield without sacrificing speed. Singletary has roster measurements of 5-foot-7 and 203 pounds. Harris is 5-11 and 213 pounds. At the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine, Singletary ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 seconds while Harris clocked a 4.57.’
New Bills safety Taylor Rapp feels he found right fit in Buffalo
‘“Definitely a lot of patience required throughout the whole process,” Rapp said during a media conference. “Everyone’s free-agent process is a little different and unique. But, ultimately, I ended up in the right situation and the right opportunity and best fit for myself, my family and my future.”’
Safety Taylor Rapp sought the right fit in signing with the Bills
‘“As we were getting deeper into the free agency process, it just kept coming back to finding the right opportunity, the right situation, and ultimately, the right fit for myself and my future,” Rapp said. “It just kept coming back to Buffalo and how attractive this opportunity and this fit was.”’
Bills Sign Ex-Rams Safety Taylor Rapp To 1-Year Deal
‘The 25-year-old Rapp has experience playing both safety positions, and joins a secondary which returns both starters in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. He’s expected to compete for a backup job along with Damar Hamlin, who is expected to return after going into cardiac arrest and having to be resuscitated on the field during a game at Cincinnati on Jan. 2.’
Damien Harris as Bills RB1? Sean McDermott calls ‘speed’ biggest factor, plus where to draft James Cook
‘”The biggest thing is the speed element,” McDermott said of Harris. “We felt like we needed a slightly bigger back, but not a 250-pound cloud of dust type of guy. So to find a player with some size, with some power, but also has the speed element to go along with it, I think that’s hard to defend. Not only can you run inside, but you can get to the edge from time to time. An 8-yard run can go to 18 or 80. That element is dangerous and can put a little bit of fear into defensive coordinators.”‘
Bills’ James Cook becomes latest NFL player to change jersey number, to have same No. 4 as brother Dalvin Cook
‘Cook wore No. 4 during his time at Georgia from 2018-21. As a senior, Cook ran for 728 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He also caught 27 passes for 284 yards and four touchdowns while helping the Bulldogs capture their first national title in over 40 years.’
