How Damar Hamlin inspired big plays from Tre’Davious White and the Bills defensive backs
‘”For it to be one of our brothers, and then for it to be in our room, in our DB room,” said White. “I was just telling somebody the other day our DB room is sort of like my college DB room was. We’re so connected, and we hang out outside of the field and football never comes up most of the time. So anytime you have a bond with guys like that, and to see something like that happen and for me I know I saw everything transpire from the hit to him getting up, to him falling to everything is just something that I can’t unsee.”‘

Playing While Coping: After Damar Hamlin’s injury, Bills balance thinking about teammate, preparing to play
‘The reaction of the Bills’ players was raw and wrenching. Football players always say the only guarantee is “a 100% chance of being injured.” Games have continued after players were immobilized and stretchered off. A prime example of that came in Week 2 against Tennessee, when Bills cornerback Dane Jackson’s neck was bent back during a play and he was transported to the hospital. Call it being conditioned or being desensitized, playing on is a part of the culture.’

Bills Mailbag: Reflections on covering a horrible night in Cincinnati
‘The first thing I remember seeing is defensive tackle Tim Settle beside himself. Fairly quickly, other teammates were clearly in a panic. Then, the amount of athletic trainers from both teams who took the field so quickly was another sign this was something different. The speed with which they brought out a stretcher was also something I haven’t seen before. Still, at that point, it was unclear that it was a cardiac-related issue.’
